Ava just looked away. "It's not killing him. It's not killing him." She repeated over and over again.
Marks began to start coughing up something. It came up in pieces as he coughed but fused together once he had coughed it up, which had taken a lot of time and effort. It writhed in the air now that it was exposed.
(Ack! Sorry for the short reply! >~<)
"Yes you are!" Sam couldn't look at anything without feeling upset. All she could do was shut her eyes tightly, hold on to Markus, and hope for the best.
After that thing was out of Mark us he stopped coughing and held onto Sam, trying to catch his breath.
The creature, which looked like black flames now screeched on its own, still hearing the noise that no one elseems could hear.
Ava turned off the noise, now that the creature was out of Markus.
"Oh my god, Markus, are you okay? Are you…gonna live?" Sam's teary eyes went wide when she saw…whatever that thing was.
"What's…that?"
Markus slowly looked up at Sam once he caught his breath. "Sam?" He asked again, seeming a bit out of it, but other than that fine.
The thing had now seemingly perched itself onto of Sam's head. "I'm more than just a thing, you know." It spoke, sounding annoyed.
Sam yelped, swatting at the black–whatever it was. "Get off, get off, get off! I'm not particularly interested in being infested by a black goo!"
Looking up at Markus during the whole ordeal, Sam tried to smile–it came out like a grimace, considering she was in–not a scared, but panicked frenzy.
The thing kept avoiding her hands as she tried to swat at it. It crawled around her. "You said you'd take Markus's place as my host." It said, hissing when ever a hand would come close to touching it.
"So you're not…a parasite, per se, but…a sentient parasite? What will happen to me?" Sam mumbled. "Ava," she looked up at her, "what is this?" Sam wanted to ensure Markus' safety, yet she had no idea what she'd gotten herself into.
"This is the thing that was attached to Markus." Ava explained. "It will use you as a host."
"I'm not a thing!" It screeched, annoyed, though it was obvious only Sam could hear it. It had crawled down the side of Sam's face and seemed to be poking at Sams eyes, though it didn't hurt.
Then what are you? Why were you killing my friend? Do you want to kill me?
"Markus, I'm sorry. I'm so, so sorry you've been through this. Ava?" A flash of simmering, dormant anger flashed in her eyes. "Could you see Markus out?" Though she couldn't trust Ava in the slightest, Sam had to.
Ava nodded. She got her into this, the least she could do was help her friend out.
"If I wanted to kill you, you'd be dead already." It said as it seemed to examine Sams face, now directly over one of Sams eye. "They gave dubbed my species, a Shade. Makes sense."
What are you doing, then? Why have I been subjected to this, Shade? Tears formed in Sam's eyes as she stood rigid. She couldn't run. She couldn't hide. She could only accept this. At least her friend was safe.
The Shade started to touch Sams eye. It didn't hurt but it did feel weird. "Calm down. It's going to be alright." It said, it's words oddly calming.
No, it's not. My friend almost died to a lunatic, I said the wrong word to get me here, and now I'm going to live the short remainder of my life here… What could be worse? Biles of frustration and sadness build up in Sam, causing her to shake.
(Sorry! I got sick basic mentally shut down.)
"Based off the people they were bringing me you could of been put in here for being out on the street at the wrong time. They were all quite weak already and I barely had a hand in their deaths. You, on the other hand, are a lot stronger. You might actually be the one." It seemed to giggled. It had actually started to force itself into Sams eye.
(If the part where Nyt is fusing with Sam is too weird I can skip over it.)
(You're fine! I'm intrigued to see how the fusion would happen.)
Stronger? The one? Sam shrieked. "Get it off! Get it off NOW! It's-" Sam was scared. "Why me? Why!?" She was hysterical.
"You," Sam pointed to Ava. "You are evil. Wicked. Preposterous. Someone's gonna find out–someone always does."
Ava was on the other side of the glass with Markus, wanting to get out of the room as most of the subjects would get hysterical when they fused. She payed no attention as Sam screamed at her.
Markus, on the other hand, only stared at her in horror. "Sam." He mummbled as he watched her scream at Ava.
The creature had now crawled into Sam's eyes, her actually eye not hindering it's posses in the slightest.
"Markus? Markus, I'm so sorry, so so so so sorry…" Sam put her hand up against the glass but kept her head down. She didn't want Markus to see how scared she was. "I'm scared, Markus. If I don't survive, just know that you're a good person, okay?"
Get out…please…I don't want to die.
"He will be fine. He was stronger than the rest too. But still, weak." It said, now seeming to take a more feminine voice now that it was literally inside Sams head.
A tear slipped down Markus's face as he put his hand on the other side of the glass.
Then what am I? Where do I fall on the spectrum?
Sam's body shook with sobs. "Markus, I'm sorry…I didn't know what had happened…If I knew…"
"Come on, Markus. I promised Sam that I would get you out of here." Ava said, putting a hand on his shoulder. "That's not just her anymore."
It made a few noises as it seemed to get a feel for things. It made her arms move in a stretching motion and flexed her hands. "This is not too bad!" It said as seemed to test out it's new host.
Sam felt disgusted that she no longer had full control over herself. Get out of my body, you filthy, inky, disgusting Shade! I don't belong to you! I belong to me, and I say GET OUT! Though Sam was angry, it was only trying to hide her sadness. Even if she lived, she would have to live in this lab forever. Even if she got out, the world might find out and people may never see her the same again.
"I have a name you know." It huffed as it continued to test out its new vessel. "And I would rather not leave, this is actually quite comfortable. Better than my other hosts."
Markus stared at Sam for a bit longer before looking back at Ava. "Alright." He said, slowly, as if it pained him to say that.
Look at him! He probably hates me now… God, if I weren't such an idiot, if I'd have just told him it sounded suspicious, I wouldn't be in this mess. Sam turned away from the two watching her out of shame. Host or not, I'm not required to like you, Shade.
