"I'll be fine" said Damian, still breathing hard from the run. "I'll have to stop soon though."
"I'll be fine" said Damian, still breathing hard from the run. "I'll have to stop soon though."
She nodded "I know I can feel your heartbeat" she said.
Damian's ears twitched to listen to her voice, but he also focused on the dark shadows around him as he walked.
she hummed quietly as Damian walked.
Damian walked on for a few more hours, eventually stopping in a small clearing along a ridge of cliffs. There was a small cavern a few feet away, it looked like it had been inhabited some years ago, but not anymore.
"is this our destination" she asked.
"For now" said Damian, "It used to belong to my uncle… don't ask it's a long story…"
She nodded "Alright".
Damian nodded, waiting for her to dismount before letting himself sleep.
Briar quickly got off him stumbling a bit from how tired she was.
Damian almost felt his legs buckle in relief, but he muzzled her, slipping up against her to keep her steady.
"Thank you" she said.
Damian nodded in assent, guiding her towards the small cavern.
Briar follwed silently.
Leaving her side he shifted and dug some old, surprisingly clean blankets out of the back.
Briar looked out to the distance.
Damian moved the blankets to make a sort of nest for Briar, watching her carefully.
after a while briar fell asleep.
Damian shifted again tiredly, laying down at her feet, eyes on the entrance, determined to guard it while she slept.
Briar pet his head as she drifted off to sleep.
Damian sighed in contentment when she petted him, loving her touch as he kept watch outside, purposely shoving a couple of sharp rocks under his belly and in his paw to keep him awake.
"go to sleep my love everything will be fine" she mumbled.
Damian looked back at her for a moment, sighing and pressing closer to her, slowing his breathing enough to seem like he was sleeping, even though he wasn't.
"I love you " she mumbled before falling asleep.
"Love you Briar…." he said softly, relaxing on the sharp stones, his eyes continuously searching the night air.
