Skye rolled his eyes, "True. But nobility prides itself on being daunting to lower classes of civilization. Like, y'know, Soldiers, Spies, Rogues, and of course, Street Rats." He pointed to himself at that point.
Skye rolled his eyes, "True. But nobility prides itself on being daunting to lower classes of civilization. Like, y'know, Soldiers, Spies, Rogues, and of course, Street Rats." He pointed to himself at that point.
"I'm not afraid unless they have a knife pointed at my throat… and that, they might as well… Um, well let's get going, yeah?"
Septima straightened her posture.
Skye nodded, leading the qay out the door, and down to the main dining hall. It was still early, si there was no one there yet.
Septima stepped out behind him by a few paces.
"Not early risers here, now are they?" she murmured, "I smell something cooking, though."
"That would most likely be breakfast." Said Skye, "Unfortunately I'll have to wait til the formal meal to get anything. But that doesn't stop you."
"What? Shouldn't I be the one who has to wait?"
Gods, this royalty stuff is confusing…
Septima looked around.
"I'll probably wait until there are more people here. I feel kind of awkward at the moment."
"You're supposed to be of the lower class. It would be considered rude for me, at least at the moment." said Skye. "I know it's confusing."
“Hmmm… okay…” Septima murmured, “Well no one seems to be awake at the moment. Once more servants and advisors come, I’ll probably try to have breakfast with them. May be better for information, too.”
Skye smiled, "Come on, let's go explore the castle a bit." he said, heading for another door.
Septima went though the door after Skye.
What are we even looking for?
She kept striding forwards. She trusted his judgement here.
Anything suspicious said Skye, in answer ro her thoughts.
Right, right. I think I already found the most suspicious thing here, but it can't help to look for more, especially since there could be bigger plans to weed magic folks out. If we're lucky, maybe we'll find some vulnerabilities, too.
Septima glanced around the hall they just entered. Her eyes first went to some of the paintings on the walls.
Vulnerabilities would be a good thing to find. said Skye, By the way are you cool with the mind reading thing? Because unless you're careful I can hear almost every thought you have.
My internal dialogue isn’t usually anything I wouldn’t say out loud. It’s fine. Worst case scenario, I think of something mildly embarrassing, and I can’t think of what that might be.
Septima just shrugged. It could bother her after a while, but for now it was fine.
Alright. said Skye, I'm just letting you know, because It's a bit difficult to tell the difference between thinking, and mind speaking.
Okay, I’ll try to keep my head as clear as possible, she replied.
She walked down the hall, slightly ahead of Skye. There were a few other doors and hallways branching off from this hall.
I didn't mean that, I'm just saying so you don't freak if I respond to a random thought. He said, giving her a smirk as the walked. *Anyways, Shall we split up and explore?
I think I'm mostly used to it by now, Septima replied, And okay. I see something that looks like a library. I might see what I can find in there.
Skye nodded, I'll go this way. He slipped down another hallway.
Septima ended up in a large library, like she had predicted. She didn't know where to start.
That's a lot of books… Should I try reading for information, or do you think there's a better approach? She asked Skye.
See if you can figure out how they're organized first, and look for any suspicious sections, something that doesn't fit in with the rest. he told her, slipping into another, mustier hallway. Continuing down this hall he soon came to a door, that was sealed off with a lock. Smirking he warped past it. Coming inside he saw a musty room, with plenty of old and dusty books. Going to one that was open on a pedestle he realized it was in another language.
Right. Let me know if you see anything as well.
Septima walked along the lines of wooden shelves. She noticed first that they were organized by genre. She wasn't so sure that would help her, since she wasn't sure what type of book she was looking for. Maybe one on the history and architecture of the palace? Maybe one that explained their motives for hunting magical people? Or something else entirely?
Skye heard her call but was a bit distracted trying to contact Arthur. Looking around the room he realized it was used for his brother's hobby. Alchemy.
Septima found one book with a very rugged, old cover. It was a book on the many cultures of the continent (which we should probably come up with a name for, but we don't have to). She flipped it open and found a table to sit at. Maybe there was something here that might give her motives for treating magical people like one whole inferior race.
Arthur sighed, he was at a bar listening for info. Or to be more precise, he was eavesdropping on everyone, and anything he could. Suddenly he felt Skye's familiar pull. Rolling his eyes he carefully got up and left, making his way through the crowds before letting Skye through.
What do you want?
I need your advice on something.
And what might that be? Arthur made it clear he didn't want to talk.
I found a locked door, and naturally I investigated.
Get to the point.
