"I gotcha," Aurelius said, "Oh yeah… so what- what is that amulet exactly? That's what kept me from hurting you, right?"
"I gotcha," Aurelius said, "Oh yeah… so what- what is that amulet exactly? That's what kept me from hurting you, right?"
"No… it's more of a representation of what I am." said Silver, "I was able to use it to activate a spell called a Wolf's Bond… but it's not what protected me.."
"It seems complicated, but I'm pretty bright. You can explain as much as you want without holding back, and I'm bound to understand at least some of it," said Aurelius, "I figure it's best that I understand what your weaknesses and strengths are, so I can better protect you in the future."
Silver huffed, "Thing is…. there are a lot of things about a halfblood's Wolf Amulet… that can make them vulnerable, it's our weakest point. Basically what it does, is it lays the line, magically, between wolf and human blood. It keeps one side from dominating the other, and allows us to keep to the full form of one or the other."
"So if you were to lose it…?" Aurelius asked in a whisper, "What would happen then? Like can you physically misplace this amulet? Can it be destroyed?"
He sounded both intrigued and worried.
"Well it's supposedly indestructible…" said Silver, "And even if you were to misplace it, it always finds it's way back to you, either that or you can track it…. as for what would happen if you lost it? Well…. that depends on weather you lost it.. or if someone took it…"
"It's a good thing the guys at the prison didn't know that…" Aurelius muttered, "It sounds like it wouldn't have been good at all. You see, that's the one good thing about being human. Your body's fragility is what makes you vulnerable. No amulets or anything to worry about."
"Fragility is something I have to worry about…" said Silver, "But you're right, it would've been so much worse for me if they'd known what power over me taking my amulet would've given them…"
"Do you know what it would do…?" he asked, his voice breaking off a little.
"It would've given them complete control over my every move." said Silver simply. "Taking a halfblood's amulet, is literally the same as taking their freedom."
"As long as I'm around, I'll make sure that never happens to you. And if it does, I'll do everything in my power to get your freedom back," Aurelius promised.
He looked Silver in the eye.
"I mean it."
Silver smiled at him, "It's really not hard to do either way, all I have to do is make sure my amulet never falls into the hands of someone I cannot trust."
"The way I see it, you can only do so much to guard it," Aurelius said, "That's not to say you can't, but I mean… you were captured once, and you are lucky they didn't know. You can be put in a position where you're more vulnerable, and the consequences could be very severe."
"That's why I have friends like you" said Silver, "And that's why we don't talk about the importance of an amulet. That's also why Wolf Hunters target us…. that's why I lost my parents…"
"Yeah. I'm glad to help keep you safe. And I'm sorry about your parents. I know it's been a long time, but I don't think that sort of pain ever completely heals… it certainly hasn't for me," Aurelius said, trying to sound both confident and soothing at the same time. He wasn't so sure either one was working.
Silver sighed, watching as the sun set. "Don;t worry about it too much" said Silver, "We're all used to it."
"You know, I was always told my parents were killed by bandits on the road," Aurelius said, his mind wandering, "As I've grown older though, I've become more and more certain I was lied to. It kind of reopens old wounds every time I find out more. Especially now that I've been imprisoned… I'm almost positive it was an act of violence against them because they had magic."
"Sounds like my parents…" said Silver, "They were killed for being born halfblood."
"I don't understand what's so bad about it," Aurelius said, "Why can't we just get along? But uh… it still really bothers me that no one told me the truth and I had to figure it out myself. I don't know why they would've done that."
"People who don't have magic… tend not to understand it, and what people don't understand, they fear…." Said Silver, "And what they fear, they consider a danger…. and if something is abundant, and considered dangerous… then it's only natural to hunt it."
"I guess so, but…"
He stopped and sighed.
"Never mind. I don't know what to believe anymore. I… I can't believe my friend even betrayed me. I never would've been imprisoned otherwise. But I also never would've met you."
"Hey.. don't worry about it" Silver shifted to stand in front of him, watching as the moon rose.
“I want to kill her,” Aurelius said, with more coldness than even he knew he was capable of, “If the opportunity ever arises, I won’t hesitate.”
He stopped when Silver shifted to human form in front of him. His heart skipped a beat. Silver was absolutely stunning in the moonlight. He seemed to glow- his pale skin illuminated and his silvery hair glistening all by the power of the moon’s faint glimmer.
A small chill ran down his spine.
Silver's eyes went cold as ice when he heard Aurelius' death threat. "There is never a reason to kill. It's kills like those that make everything worse." he said his tone even colder than his eyes. "I learned the the hard way… when I turned hunter on the ones that killed my parents."
“I think it’s perfectly fair…” Aurelius murmured, “but of course, if your reasoning is good enough, I might reconsider how I’m thinking. As of right now, I see her as a threat to me and my friends, and if she has the nerve to come here as a spy or to attack, you’d better believe she’s mine.”
(Goodnight!)
