Blake woke up with his head pounding. God he needed water. After a quick glance around he realized he was still in the abandoned station. It was definitely night now. He'd already wasted a day of searching. His hands went to his holster, clamming up as he felt the cold metal of the gun and the file on Ace tucked safely next to it. He rubbed the sleep out of his eyes and stood up, stretching his cramped wings. He slowly undid the bandage around his next wing, but the wound seemed to have healed itself quickly.
"Hello? Anyone else here?" Blake called out into the darkness, but none one responded. He felt his heart sink a little. He'd been half hoping Josh might be somewhere nearby. Forget about him, Thorfin. You have a mission.
Blake sighed, raking his hands through his messy hair. The thought sounded more like Commander Ryker's than his own. But then again, since when did his own opinions matter? Blake is a soldier. He gets orders and follows them no matter what. That's just how life is. He reached down into his pocket and pulled out a note that had yellowed long ago. With shaky hands, he unfolded it.

To Our Dearest Blake,

It will be a long time before you can actually read this, but your father and I agreed you deserve to have an explaination. We had to leave you with the R.A.C. because they will train you to protect yourself without magic. You would have been unable to survive living with magic users for parents, Blake. You'd have grown up defenseless. I sincerely hope you understand we are doing this to protect you.

Train hard Blake,

Mr. & Mrs. Thorfin

He'd always thought his mom wrote kind of funny. She was so formal. The again, it was like talking to a stranger. The others at the barracks always joked that it looked like Commander Ryker's handwriting, but Blake knew better. His parents had left him one piece of paper as proof. Proof that he had an identity and that identity was a soldier at the R.A.C. But things were better now. He was making a difference. Closing the gap between the magic and non-magic so no more children can be cast aside and unwanted. No more little boys trailing behind army commanders asking for a bedtime story. No more young halfbreeds like Blake being locked in dark rooms by older recruits, waiting hours on end for someone to rescue them. His hero that day had been the janitor who was simply looking for paper towels, but it meant the world to Blake.

Shaking his head to clear his thoughts, Blake lightly traced the printed heading the the top right corner that read: R.A.C. Seattle Office, along with its address and phone number. His mother must've written the note while she was dropping him off. It loooked rushed too. Blake liked to think that maybe the real reason he was left behind was that his mother was a top secret spy for the R.A.C. and left him there to hide him from a mortal enemy, or something cool like that. Maybe after he kills Ace, Commander Ryker will let him find his family…

Blake folded the note back up and stuffed it in his pocket again. After a few tentative wing beats, he was up in the air and heading towards the exit. It was time to start his mission.

(Lol @Nerd I meant for him to be evil, but I don't think I have the heart to do that too him. I'm pretty sure he's just a big puppy.)

(@Natasha we're all just lucky I decided to take out the scene where Blake was under the sedative and trying to talk to girls.)

@blue_topaz

Macha nodded in acknowledgement of Josh. "Thanks for that.", she told Dani. Your warning notes have gotten me out of quite a few sticky situations." "I know what you mean about Ana.", she conveyed telepathically. "I'm worried too. I've had experience in the past with people with a similar mindset to her, maybe I can help?" "What happens next?", she asked out loud.

(Plot twist: Blake and Josh fight each other for ultimate cinnamon roll status.)
