(I already love Josie)
Rey finally looked at Josie. Her mouth was open a little, shocked by Josie's look on life. She shook it off and looked away from her. "That's what I'm doing right now," Rey sighed.
"Brilliant!" Josie squealed, "Let's get our grub on."
(Aww thanks. Josie is basically me if I had the courage to vocalize my thoughts and opinions. And yes, I do enjoy water colouring and streamers and succulents and gardening. I am very "basic" and very happy with it lol.)
"You are way too cheerful for your own good," Rey pointed out. "But yeah, let's 'get our grub on',"
"What can I say, my dudette, I'm a golden retriever stuck inside a human flesh prison," She laughed and stuck her tongue out, holding her arms out and jiggling her upper body in imitation of a viciously wobbling bowl of jell-o.
Rey bit her lip to keep herself from laughing. "You look like an idiot," she said. She couldn't hold herself anymore and burst out laughing. "No… offence!"
"I live for laughter!" Josie smiled, overjoyed that she managed to make at least one person happy that day. They stood just outside the dining hall, allowing people to pass by as they struggling to regain enough composure to enter.
"I can see that," Rey said, still smiling. She stopped when Josie stopped. "Are you going to go in?"
"Why of course, after you m'lady," She grinned as she held the door open for Rey, tipping an imaginary fedora.
Rey rolled her eyes, but still smiled. "Why thank you, dear sir," she said, curtsying.
Josie laughed and walked in after her. This was going to be a good summer.
"Well, where do you want to sit?" Rey asked, looking around the room.
Xander was sitting alone while he waited for some of the other kids to come to dinner.
Rey noticed someone sitting alone. All the other tables were occupied by more than one person, so she walked over to the person. She hoped Josie had followed. "Are these seats taken?" she asked the guy.
"Oh, no," Xander replied, "You're welcome to sit here."
Rey nodded and took a seat across from him. "This might sound creepy, but you're Xander, right?" she asked.
Josie joined, taking a seat across from the guy. "Howdy, partner," she spoke as if she had just exited an old-timey saloon.
"Yeah. Have we met?" Xander asked, half-afraid that he'd forgotten Rey's name.
"I think we did this morning," Rey said. "Briefly,"
"I'm Sheriff Josie and this here's mah partner, Deputy Rey," Josie spoke, maintaining completely serious composure.
Xander laughed, "Oh, okay. Well, it's nice to officially meet you guys."
"Nice ta meet cha too, partner," She said, extending her hand gruffly to him.
"Wait, so are you a cowboy now?" Rey questioned, looking at Josie.
Xander tentatively reached for Josie's hand. He was feeling very shy and overwhelmed by Josie's energy, but he was glad to meet someone so friendly.
