"Hi, Kitty!" the group of girls chorused, each giving her a warm smile.
"So, who wants to go first?" Kasey asked. "Unless you'd like to pick, Kitty?"
"Hi, Kitty!" the group of girls chorused, each giving her a warm smile.
"So, who wants to go first?" Kasey asked. "Unless you'd like to pick, Kitty?"
"It doesn't matter," Kitty whispered shyly.
"I'll go!" Scarlet offered, taking a step toward Kitty. "Trust me, you'll be safe if I try this."
Kitty smiled at Courtney. "I think I can agree with that." She looked at Scarlet curiously. "What powers do you have?"
"You'll just have to find out, now, won't you?" Scarlet teased with a wink. She looked at Kitty, concentrating on what she was trying to do. When nothing happened, she nodded slowly and stepped back into the line of girls. "You're impervious to telepathy and mind control, apparently."
Kitty pressed her lips together in a thin line. She'd done it again. Maybe she was special.
Blaine stepped forward, giving the younger girl a small smile. "If you could just hold your hand out, that's be great," she said.
Kitty patiently did as she was told.
"I promise I won't hurt you," Blaine assured her, lifting her hand to show a flame. She lowered the flame toward Kitty's hand, and it disappeared as soon as Blaine touched her. Kitty hadn't even been touched by the flame. "Interesting. Do you have a cell phone?"
Kitty nodded slowly.
"Just hold it out, please," Blaine asked, pulling her hand away from the girl's arm.
Again, Kitty complied, but slower and much more hesitant this time. Don't worry. It'll be fine.
"Trust me, this won't hurt you at all. This power's a lot less… dangerous, I suppose I could say," Blaine assured her with a smile. She looked at the phone, her face getting a more and more concentrated look as nothing continued to happen. With a frown, she looked away, and the lights in the room went out for barely a moment before coming back on.
"Anything you hold seems to be impervious to powers, as well," Kasey observed as Blaine stepped back into the line.
Kitty jumped when the lights when out. It wasn't long, but it still startled her. She quietly slid her phone into her back pocket. She looked at the line of girls, still trying to evaluate their powers, names, and looks.
Kasey looked out across the line of girls. "Jen, much as your power is amazing, I'm not sure if you need to test it on her. We wouldn't want someone to get hurt."
"Yeah, that's fine. I get it," Hen said with a nod. She looked to Kitty with a small smile and explained, "Super strength."
"I'm not sure my power would be able to do anything or be effected by her," Avery admitted. "I've got shapeshifting, but only animals. It's cool."
Kitty looked from Kasey to Jen to Avery as each spoke in turn. "So, now what?" she asked timidly.
"Um… I think those are the only powers we can test in you, actually…" Kasey said as she looked around at the girls, who had broken their line to talk to each other. "Rose has flight, and Thea has superspeed."
Kitty looked at Kasey and asked, somewhat afraid, "Is… Is there any- um, villain that you fight? Would I be immune to their powers too?"
"We fight a lot of villains," Courtney said with a shrug. "From what I've seen you do, I'd assume that you are."
Bryson texted her again. She resisted the urge to check it. "Can I help then?"
"I mean… We haven't gotten any calls today, and you should really go through some training first…" Avery trailed off, looking thoughtful.
"I want to help," Kitty pleaded determinedly. Bryson texted her again. She bit her lip and turned off her ringer.
"Kitty, check your phone. What if it's important?" Courtney said with a smile.
Kitty slipped the device out and checked.

Hey, I'm at your house waiting for you.
Are you coming or what?
A new one appeared just as she finished reading the last one.

I am NOT letting your dad lecture me in the doorway again Kit Kat…
"Everything okay?" Kasey asked gently.
