“I guess it was uncomfortable –the race stuff, I mean.” Kai dug around for another chip, but he’d manage to eat them all. He messed with the chain around his neck before placing the pendant in his mouth and sucking on that. “I didn’t think it was funny. Those dumbasses were only laughing because everyone else was.”
Dorian’s posture relaxed again, and a gap-toothed smile found its way back onto his face. “Yeah, exactly. I’m glad you didn’t laugh. It was nice to have one person not laughing.” He suddenly looked embarrassed, hiding by bending down and gathering his cards.
“I feel that,” Kai replied, not really knowing what else to say but appreciating the appreciation. “And don’t worry about the stuff they said about me. Like, it really didn’t affect me at all.” He mentally begged Dorian to believe him.
Dorian shrugged his shoulders, straightening up and stacking the cards neatly onto the table. “Okay. I still didn’t love it.” He gave Kai a sudden, long look, his dark steady eyes studying Kai’s face. It felt oddly intrusive, but Kai was determined to meet his gaze, so he didn’t look away. “Four years of high school, and I feel like we’re just meeting.”

Name: Raine "Rainy" Akari
Age: 20
Gender/Pronouns: She/Her
Sexual/Romantic Orientation: Asexual but very affectionate and loves romance, cuddling, hand holding, kisses, etc.
Personality: Rainy is an empath who can sense the emotions of those around her, especially those closest to her. A 2w1, the helper. ISFJ-T or INFJ-T. She is kind, introverted but definitely enjoys/loves people. People tend to drain her pretty quickly since she is pouring everything into them and experiencing their feelings. Has trouble being around negative people. She's bouncy and wholesome, but people don't gravitate to her that quickly, due to her intense presence and her over willingness to help. The people that do befriend her either use her because of the love she gives, or are fiercely loyal and protective of her. Most don't know what to make of her; she has a quick laugh and a sunny disposition, but she's very sensitive and quick to judge. She tends to psychoanalyze others and try to fix their flaws through pseudo-therapy sessions, and she doesn't grasp how uncomfortable that makes some people feel. However, she's a very supportive friend who encourages everyone and is always a shoulder to cry on and someone to talk to.
Motivations: She is driven most by her desire to "Fix" others. Her philosophy is that everyone is capable of goodness if given the opportunity, and she can provide that opportunity through gentle reinforcement and love. This makes her overly trusting, naive, and prone to get hurt again and again.
Moral Alignment: Neutral Good. She operates in her own little word, seeing herself as the moral center of the people she's around. Her devotion to unveiling their innate goodness does not follow any set laws, only her own personal morals.
Appearance: Rainy stands at a tiny height of around 5'1, and she is petite, around 100lbs. Her body is proportionately skinny except that her legs are a bit smaller than the rest of her. She has raven black, shiny hair cut into a near-pixie cut with bangs that sweep to the side. Often wears accessories and flowers in her hair. She is of Asian decent (specifically Japanese but I'm not sure if Japan exists in this RP lol) with fair-medium peachy skin with orange-y undertones and high cheekbones and a long, bridge-less nose. She does not have any scars, but her wide range of often overdramatic expressions and her extremely bright and colorful wardrobe set her apart from others.
Worst Fear: Her fear is to be viewed as emotionally or morally weak. She wants people to view her as someone who has an infinite supply of love and support to give, and she's afraid people will break past her helper facade and see that she isn't as emotionally stable as she claims. She relies on others emotions too much, and even though she welcomes other's vulnerability, she fears her own.
The Role on the Ship: Doctor
Why They Joined and How Long They've Been There: She joined when she was quite young after she left her over-controlling strict home. She got fed up with them after a while and ran away with a boy, but the boy was arrested and she had to find somewhere else to take her. She found a place to learn medicine, but found that place to be much to strict as well, so she joined the crew. And she's been patching up pirates ever since.
Brief Backstory: Her parents are legalistic and try to force strict standards on her, and they discourage freedom and expression. She felt stifled and controlled there, especially since they adopted her and they have a savior complex; they expect her to be their perfect child, completely grateful to them for rescuing her from poverty. She ran away and changed her last name to her biological parent's last name and studied medicine, fell in love, lost her love, and joined the crew.
Other: She's got Disney Princess vibes –she loves singing, and most animals love her. She calls people babe as a nickname. She loves seals. Thinks capitalism is evil. Pretty religious.

Personality: Tough and aggressive on the outside, but once you get to know her, she's not to terrible, and loves her friends and dog.
Motivations: Wanting to be able to feed her dog, Skip. (And fulfilling her childhood dreams of being a "flying doctor pirate")
Moral alignment: Neutral Good
Appearance: She is relatively skinny with light brown hair and green eyes. She's about 5 feet and 8 inches tall, has light skin, a dog shaped tattoo on her arm, with Skip's name under it. She also almost always wears a makeshift doctor's coat made out of woven together grass and weeds, and has a second tattoo on her other arm of a dragon.
Worst fear: Losing Skip.
Role on the ship: Docter
Why she joined and how long they've been there: She has been there for 1.5 years, and she joined so she didn't have to give Skip away.
Brief Backstory: Was given to an orphanage as an infant, and throughout her childhood she wanted to be a "flying pirate doctor" after she grew up, she trained to be a doctor, mostly forgetting about the "flying pirate" part…until she found out that her parents were some of the worst murderers in the country. She was shunned away everywhere she turned, she got a dog to help soothe herself (AKA Skip) And that's when she decided to be a pirate.

Name: Captain Lio Rose Barrett
Age: (preferably 18 or older, and I was thinking more around the 21+ range, ish.) He always lies about his exact age, giving wildly varying and wildly inaccurate/just plain impossible numbers, although he appears to be mid-fourties.
Gender/Pronouns: Masc-presenting nonbinary, he/him. Honestly he'd just say he's just a person when it comes down to it, trying to survive in a world that would readily rip out his throat and tie him to the ocean floor with it.
Sexual/Romantic Orientation: Severely gay, falls in love far too easily for his own good.
Personality: Lio can seem a bit rough and even scary at times, but he's got a good heart deep down despite being severely emotionally constipated. He has difficulty verbalizing his feelings so he relies mainly on physical affecting and supporting people by just. Being there. He's a "team dad" type tbh. He's also incredibly pragmatic and a good strategist, who cares for his crew regardless of how long he's known them and values their lives and safety just as much as he values the work they do and will willingly make tough calls to keep them alive to plunder another day. He's less kind to those he opposes however, and gets scarily efficient and downright brutal and sadistic during combat. Ultimately he's a complicated lad and that's okay.
Motivations: He'd say survival, but honestly it's emotional fulfillment and "fixing" the parts of himself he believes to be broken. He just wants love you guys! But of course, he's too emotionally constipated to admit it.
Moral Alignment: (Like, Lawful Evil, Chaotic Neutral, Neutral Good, True Neutral, etc.) Ranges from True Neutral to Neutral Evil to Chaotic Good to…. others, tbh. Just depends on how much he actually cares about your survival.
Appearance: (Must give: Body type, eye/hair color, rough height, skin color/race, and three other noticeable features like scars, tattoos, etc.) Lio is a tall, hulking man with well defined muscles under a layer of padding. He's got that sailor type body that's just tall, strong, and soft around the edges and good for giving big, strong bear hugs to people he likes and snapping the necks of those he doesn't. Probably about like 6'10"-8 feet tall, he's. Big. I might have a type. If I were to describe his race in this (our) world's terms I'd probably say mixed Korean and Black American, but like. This is not our world so. Yeeeeah. It has similar places tho. He has dark eyes that always seem focused on something else and when they look at you just appear sad and searching for something unknown. He has various scars from various battles but the most noticeable scars of all would be the massive burn scars nearly covering his back and much of his forearms. He has a tattoo on his neck identifying him as a criminal and a distinct birthmark shaped a bit like a rose, where he got his middle name, and long black hair that's noticably greying, coming down mid-ribcage and is usually tied up out of the way.
Worst Fear: Being unable to do anything to affect his situation, being betrayed.
The Role on the Ship: Captain
Why They Joined and How Long They've Been There: He formed the crew and he's been there ever since.
Brief Backstory: Before Lio formed this crew, way before, he had been a sailor at 15 years old. As naval technology grew less and less useful as airships became more common, Lio decided he had to move with the times or be left behind. Life on military airships was tough enough, and he decided to jump ship at the nearest port. However, that sort of stuff tends to get one court-martialed pretty quickly and he had to escape relatively unnoticed. He took a small plane and some supplies and flew towards the border regions with what little practical flying experiences he had and managed to crash land on a pirate-friendly port. There he joined a crew, thinking it couldn't go too badly, and was immediately captured. He was recognized and immediately marked as a criminal with an identifying tattoo, but he escaped once more with his crew's airship and a few of the members he'd actually managed to break out. The rest he saw executed as he flew overhead to his escape. There, he saw one member of the crew, the ship's mechanic and his lover, glaring towards the sky, as if he saw Lio and was giving him a 'fuck you for leaving me' before being hanged. Later on, Lio's crew mutinied after a catastrophic plunder gone wrong and he was nearly thrown off the ship, but made a deal that if they turned him in instead of killed him they'd both get paid quite well for their troubles and he'd be gone, so they agreed and turned him in. He used this to escape, again, that clever bastard. He'd made enough enemies in the military during his travels and he knew that he'd probably become one of those very public examples. It was a risky gamble but paid off in the end. He spent the next seven years in hiding, building up a lot of debt and addictions, until he eventually got back on his feet and stole a heavy military airship, sailed it away, and put together a new crew. Nobody actually knows any of this though and he's got a lot more history he doesn't speak about, which. Yay. This would give any psychologist a field day. So fun. He's a broken man slowly putting back the pieces, and like. Mood.
Other: Honestly I do not know. I am sorry.
