Jack was smiling as he kissed her back.
Paige's chair moaned as she shifted to get closer and wrapped her arms around Jack's neck.

Caire froze for a moment, looking over at Brendon with a hint of fear in her eyes. "…So what if I was?"
Jack wrapped his arms around her waist as he pulled her closer.
He didn't look skeptical or anything. He looked excited. He'd never met an elf in person, only heard of them. "I'm not saying that's a bad thing. I'm curious."
"Well… yes. A woof elf, to be precise." Caire hesitated before tucking her hair behind her ears, revealing that they were pointed.
He smiled brightly. He was like a kid on Christmas. "Amazing. I've only ever heard of elves, I never thought I'd get to meet one in person."
"Ordinarily you wouldn't unless you went very deep into the forest. Wood elves are very private." She moved her hair back over her ears so no one else would see. "But my parents caught wind that something was amiss, that something would soon happen to the forest, and they sent me here. They wanted me to act as though I were a human, so that I would be safe. Elves are quite good at knowing these kinds of things… they must know that the forest is in danger."
His smile dipped a little. "So after you save it, you'll go back?" He didn't want her to leave but he wouldn't force her to stay.
"I don't know…" Caire sighed, looking at the forest. "I would probably live in the forest, but still come here. I know plenty about archery and animal handling, but things such as 'American History' aren't particularly pertinent for elves to learn."
He shrugged. "Cool. Have you heard about that hunting group? The ones supposedly looking for Satan?" He said it like it totally wasn't him they were after.
"What? No, I don't think so. Elves don't usually meddle in those sorts of affairs."
"Really? They've been looking for this guy for years, all over the country, but they haven't caught him yet. They've looked everywhere, I'm shocked you haven't heard of it."
Caire shrugged. "I only came into the human world recently. Before then, I was still deep in the forest. Elves are typically neutral, but good aligned. They're helpful if you happen to come across them without bad intentions, and they typically stay out of wars and such unless they are needed. They have been known to become quite formidable in battles."
"Then come here, I'll show you." He pulled up the most recent article on his phone for her.
"Alright." Caire stepped closer to Brendon, staring curiously at the device in his hand. She had seen other students with them around school, of course, but had never really gotten a closer look.
He chuckled. "It doesn't bite, you can take it." The article was pulled up already, ready for her to read.
"What is it?" Caire gingerly accepted the phone, not wanting to break it on accident as she scanned the article. She was quite good at reading, particularly small text. Elvish was always written in small print, and it was written neatly and precisely.
"It's called a phone. An ingenious little device that can do almost everything."
"Can it stop humans from tearing down a forest?"
"Hey, I said almost. Though it could help you do that, I suppose."
"Hmm… in what way? I fail to see how a little glowing box could possibly influence humans to do much of anything, much less actually help the environment.
"Do you know how many people you can reach with said glowing box? You can literally talk to the entire world just using that."
Leon was on his way to the hidey hole he ate lunch at, when given given his luck the whole damn football team showed up. He let out a silent groan of frustration as the quarterback punched him in the gut. He doubled over and fell to the ground, "Fag."
He heard one member say it. Followed by another. And another, until it was a chant. The team surrounded him and took turns kicking him. Other students began to notice and joined in the chant, misinterpreted as fight. It was less of a fight and more of a brutal beating of Leon as the quarterback kept hitting him.
"Really? How does it work?" Caire looked down at the screen again, confused and fascinated.
"Well if I could have it back I would show you." He laughed.
