"They're planning on tearing the forest down. Something about putting up a new mall or whatever. Construction starts in a few weeks."
"They're planning on tearing the forest down. Something about putting up a new mall or whatever. Construction starts in a few weeks."
"What?! We have to stop them! Who's behind it?" Caire seemed angry, but also very worried now. If the forest was taken down, not only would her entire race be discovered, but they'd be out of a home. She knew that the elves would fight against it, but it still made he anxious.
"The local government. They want to attract more people to the town so they think putting this monstrosity up will help."
"How do we stop them? They can't take down the forest! Think of all the poor animals; they wont have anywhere to go!"
"And neither will I. I'm not going back to that god forsaken place that I'm forced to call my home. I'm not doing it. As for stopping them, I don't know. I think it's too late."
"The forest will fight back. It always does." Caire said firmly, balling her hands into fists. "And I will fight alongside it."
"And I will too. We're in this together." He felt so out of place. She was so confident and strong about it while he was nervous and scared.
"The forest is my home, and I won't let some stupid people who are supposedly my superiors take that from me. I'll just have to fetch my bow to convince a few people."
(Okay, my laptop is about to die and my brother has my charger so if I randomly disappear, that's why.)
"Exactly. If they want my home, they'll have to pry it out of my cold dead hands."
The bell rang for the next period.
He looked at her. "Should we go? Because I'd much rather stay in here, to be completely honest."
Jack grabbed her hand, “Let’s go then.”
"I have no desire to go to class right now. My next class is History, and quite frankly, I don't care about history." Caire examined her chalky hands.
He rubbed the chalk dust off her hands. "There. Much better." He smiled lightly.
Caire tried to smile back, but she was still pretty fired up about the forest. She knew she would have to do everything in her power to protect it.
He knew telling her would cause this but maybe he could try something. "Hey, I want to show you something. Close your eyes."
Jack grabbed her hand, “Let’s go then.”
Paige grabbed her backpack and looked one last time at her mom before sticking her close to Jack in the packed hall.
"…Alright." Caire sat on the counter cross legged with her eyes closed.
"Don't open them until I tell you to." He took a slow breath and small green threads started to wind into her head. The color grew brighter and then disappeared. "There. You can open your eyes." What he did wasn't much, but he calmed her down and made the whole forest thing just a distant thought in the back of her mind until school was over.
Jack had a death grip on her hand as they walked down the art hallway. It was instantly less packed.
(Ooo can he sort of read her thoughts? Then he'd know she was an elf)
Caire opened her eyes, the green portion of the hazel becoming more prominent in the lights. Her ears were slightly visible through her hair, points and all.
(He can, but chooses not to because he thinks it's rude and weird to just break into someone's head.)
He smiled lightly. "Feeling better?"
She nodded, adjusting her hair so that it fully covered her ears. "What would you like to do now?"
He shrugged. "Don't know. I'm down for whatever you want to do."
