Jack smiled back. "Ah. That's cool." He replied with a nod. "Graham seems nice. His wife too." He bit his lip. God, he wanted to warm Lincoln about the future. But he couldn't.
Jack smiled back. "Ah. That's cool." He replied with a nod. "Graham seems nice. His wife too." He bit his lip. God, he wanted to warm Lincoln about the future. But he couldn't.
Lincoln’s face brightened even more, which didn’t seem possible. “They’re incredible. Graham’s an amazing writer,” he gushed, “He’s going to get published, and ah— he’s got such a bright future ahead of him,” he let a little bounce into his step.
Jack swallowed. No. No, he doesn't. He's going to die somehow, and you're going to adopt his daughter. He nodded. "Y-yeah. He seems like he really would be a good writer."
Lincoln nodded back quicker, “Mhm! I’ve read a few of his works, mostly short stories—and they’re amazing—but he’s working on an entire novel right now. He let me read the first chapter and it gave me goosebumps.” He kept his hands stuffed in his pockets, letting his elbows swing with the rhythm of his paces.
Jack smiled. "Ooh, what's it about?" he asked, raising his eyebrows curiously. He smiled at Lincoln happily, and let his hand brush against the other male's.
“It’s about an engineer who tries to break the limits of technology, and in doing so he accidentally kills someone he loves. He then breaks the ethical limits of technology by trying to bring the loved one back to life. He said he based the main character off of me,” he laughed, “I don’t know if I should be flattered.”
Jack blinked slowly, and let out a laugh. "I mean…" he shook his head a little bit. "It sounds almost like Frankenstein, but different." he replied with a grin. "But either way. He based a character off of you, so you should be flattered."
Lincoln nodded, “Then I will be flattered. And Graham’s favorite book is Frankenstein, so he probably took inspiration from it. It’s set in modern times, though, so it will be different. Well, my modern times, your history.” He pulled his hand out of his pocket to tuck that awry tuft of hair behind his ear again.
Jack laughed a little. "Yeah." he agreed. "Well, that makes sense." he nodded, looking at Lincoln and fingers itching to be the one to tuck that hair back. "I mean…" he shrugged.
Lincoln shivered as a chilling breeze hit his face. He buried his mouth in his scarf. He peered back over the fabric with his eyebrows raised, curiously expecting Jack to finish his thought, “Hm?”
"Nothing, I don't know what I'm saying." Jack replied with a quick laugh, shaking his head a little. "Sorry." he ran his fingers through his hair.
“Oh, it’s fine,” he shrugged his shoulders, looking forward again. The corner of his eyes crinkled with amusement, betraying the smile he hid behind his scarf.
Jack smiled over at him, his red hair messy and sticking up all over his head. "Sorry." he said again, stuffing his hands in his pockets against the cold. "Uhm…how much farther do we need to walk?"
Lincoln squinted into the thickening snow. It looked like a storm was gathering. He shivered again. “A little farther, not much. I was hoping we could get a carriage but…I don’t see one.” He said over the wind, having to uncover his mouth for the moment. He grimaced.
"Alright." Jack replied, stuffing his hands further into his pockets. "Don't worry about the carriage thing. We'll be fine." he gave Lincoln a quick grin, then shivered and burrowed into his coat.
“Alright,” Lincoln grinned back. “It’s just gonna be a cold rest of the walk,” he chuckled, turning his head back in front of him. “Oh, look, there’s the coffee shop we went to,” he gestured. “We’re not far.”
Jack nodded. "Alright. That's fine." He replied. He smiled a little. "That was a good cafe. I mean, I burned my tongue, but that was my own fault."
“Haha! Yeah, it was a good cafe,” he agreed. “I’ve burnt my tongue on coffee more times than I can count.” He chuckled. “Especially right after it’s brewed.”
Jack grinned at him. "Yeah." He replied, chuckling. "Burned tongues are no fun, though." He shook his head.
“Not at all. It lasts for days,” he raised his gaze from the ground to the street again. “Aha, this is the line of stores that lead up to my house.” He shivered again, pulling his coat closer to himself again. He was glad they were only a matter of minutes away from his house now. It felt like the air was getting colder by the second.
Jack shivered as well, and tucked his coat closer around his body. "Oh good. I'm not a human icicle yet." He joked, smiling and laughing a little.
“Human icicle…” Lincoln echoed, finding that incredibly amusing. He tucked his mouth back into his scarf again as a grin spread across his face. The corner of his eyes crinkled to betray his happy expression.
Jack winked at him. "Of course, if I was, I know a couple ways to warm up." he said flirtatiously, laughing a little as he did.
Lincoln glanced over at him and snorted, “Hah!” His shoulders bounced with effervescent laughter. “We would at least have to wait until we’re behind closed doors…” he let the twinge in his voice trail off.
Jack smirked at him, laughing. "Yeah, that's true. But once we were…" he trailed off, still laughing a little bit.
