"Yeah…y-yeah I am…" Veronica replied, her voice breaking slightly.
"Yeah…y-yeah I am…" Veronica replied, her voice breaking slightly.
“You don’t look… okay.” She felt herself edging closer which went against all her instincts but she did it anyway.
Veronica sighed and looked up, wiping off her face. "Family stuff…" she muttered. She never told anyone about her father. He was known as the perfect lawyer to everyone in this town…if anyone found out the things he said to her. She shook her head at the thought. For some reason she trusted Elide…
“Okay, I won’t… won’t push since I-I only just met you but umm… if you need to talk… I’m a great listener.”
"That would be nice…I mean…I never really talk to people about my feelings…but…umm…" Veronica said, her voice trailing off. She laid her hands in her lap and sighed.
Elide looked at her then at her hands and gasped slightly at the sight of the same tattoo she had. She swore Veronica hadn’t had it that morning.
Veronica looked up at Elide after hearing her gasp and frowned. "Did I do something wrong…?" she asked.
She shook her head quickly, “No, but…” Elide reluctantly rolled up her right sleeve so Veronica could see her tattoo.
Veronica's eyes widened. "No…" she whispered, looking from her tattoo to Elide's.
Elide shook her head, “I-I don’t understand.” She said quietly.
"This appeared w-when you left…I…" Veronica muttered.
“Same… bu-but what does it…it mean?’ She whispered, not looking at Veronica yet.
"I have no idea…but it must mean…something," Veronica said, her mind flooding with thoughts.
Elide nodded her head in agreement, she was so confused.
"Maybe we're soulmates," Veronica said sarcastically, trying to lighten the mood.
“That’s… That’s not possible,” She said shaking her head, “They don’t… don’t exist and if they did I wouldn’t have one.”
"Oh, don't talk like that. Everyone has a soulmate," Veronica said, smirking slightly.
She shook her head again and stood up, “No, they- I don’t have one.”
Veronica stood up and looked at her. "You do."
“Why do you keep saying that?” She said quietly.
"Because. Maybe she's closer than you think," Veronica said. She let out a long breath and turned around, not looking at Elide.
“You…” She said the realisation washing over her, “But… you’re… you don’t deserve someone like me… you.. you deserve better.”
Veronica shook her head. "You're the only one who thinks that. To me, you're perfect," she said, her face turning pink.
“I-I…” She didn’t have the words so she sat back down, “Can.. can we take this slow, please?”
"I meant as a person. Don't take that the wrong way…" Veronica said, slumping back down onto the bench.
