“No.. no it’s fine.. I’m fine.” She tried to smile but it didn’t quite work out.
“No.. no it’s fine.. I’m fine.” She tried to smile but it didn’t quite work out.
"You sure…?" she asked, calming down a bit.
Elide nodded, pulling her sleeves over her hands to stop them from shaking. For some reason she felt calm and safe with Veronica, something she hadn’t felt with anyone but her dad. She tried to push away those feelings.
"Okay," Veronica said, nodding. "So…umm…"
“I should go,” Elide had called her dad and he said he would bring her home, “My…my dad is probably waiting for me. Th.. thanks for the help earlier.”
"You're leaving school already? Lucky…my dad would never do that for me… But whatever, you're welcome," Veronica said, spacing out a bit.
Concern clouded Elide’s eyes, “Okay… umm… see you round.” She walked out of the bathroom feeling a little embarrassed and flustered. No, she wouldn’t crush on a girl she just met, Veroncia wouldn’t want someone like her anyway.
Veronica sighed and leaned against the sink, quickly wiping away tears that had formed in her eyes. She stood there, thinking about what had just happened for a while. She had never met anyone like Elide before. All her friends were rude and bullied others. The thought that there were nicer people in the world helped her calm down.
As Elide was walking all her thoughts were on Veronica. She couldn’t get her out of her head. Her confidence, her looks, her personality. She shook her head. What was happening? It couldn’t be a crush, she only just met her.
Veronica sunk to the floor of the bathroom and looked up at the ceiling. Why did Elide stick out to her so much? No one ever did…
Elide stopped by her locker to put her books away when she looked down at her hand. A small gasp escaped her when she saw what was happening. On her right thumb, a tattoo of a rose had appeared.
Veronica stood up and walked over to the sink. Who knew how much dirt had been on that floor. She went to turn on the water and froze. She had a tattoo of a rose on her left thumb that she swore hadn't been there five minutes ago.
Elide was shocked, no. Her dad would kill her. She poored some water on her hand and tried to wipe it off with a tissue. No, no, no!
Veronica sighed and leaned on the sink. She'd gotten tattoos before, her dad wouldn't think anything of it…but her sister would.
Elide rolled down her sleeve and walked out to the car, trying not to look nervous about anything, “Hi hunny, you okay?” Her dad asked and she nodded back. that was enough confirmation fot him so he drove off.
Veronica walked out of the bathroom, looking down at the ground. She walked to her locker and grabbed her things. She skipped all the time…no one would notice she was gone.
“Wait, I wanna was the rest of the way.” She said quietly, “Are you sure?” Her dad asked and she nodded again. She got out of the car said a quite, ‘see you in a bit’ to her dad and watched him drive off.
Veronica walked into the lobby, her bag thrown across her shoulder. She walked to the door and hesitiated slightly before pushing it open.
Elide sighed as she slowly made her way home, but when she looked back at one point, she saw Veronica. She stiffened and sped up her walk.
Veronica walked with her head down out of the building and to anywhere but her house. She took out her earbuds and plugged them into her phone, putting one in her ear and letting the other one hang by her side.
Elide sped up and took a detour through the park. Even though Veronica hadn’t seen her, Elide being who she was, thought she was following her. She found her usual tree, a huge oak with the middle carved out of it and sat, hoping Veronica wouldn’t see her.
Veronica knew her dad would be drunk and make a huge deal if she showed up at home so she went to where she thought no one would be at this time of day. The park. She jogged since it wasn't so far and when she got there she sat on a bench, burying her face in her hands.
Elide saw Veronica, she looked stressed. Even though comoon sense told her to run home, she felt the need to.. comfort, help her. She shook her head and prayed she was doing the right thing as she stood up, and walked over, “he… hey.” She said quietly.
Veronica looked up just enough to see Elide walking towards her. Dammit she thought. She hated people seeing the weak side of her, she was always the strong one. She shook her head and looked up, her face bright red. "Hey…Elide…" she said quietly.
“Are.. are you okay?” She hesitated before sitting down next to her.
