Elide was walking down the corridors of her school, holding some of her school books she needed to exchange in her locker. She kept her head down, trying to go unnoticed. Nightmares had kept her up all night but her adoptive father had told her she had to go, but to call if she needed. She hurriedly walked to her locker.
Veronica had gotten to school early so she could get away from home. She had put her stuff in her locker already and was walking aimlessly through the halls, waiting for the bell to ring so she could be fashionably late to first period. She hummed softly as she walked.
Elide made it to her locker and put the books she was holding away and pulled out some others. She shut the door, only to be pushed down by her usual bullies. Her books scattered and the group laughed. “What a freak,” one said, “Such trash.” said another and they all laughed as the first kicked her in the stomach.
Veronica walked past a group of kids laughing, making a huge scene. She shrugged and walked over to them. "The hell's going on here huh?" she asked, her head cocked to the side.
“Nothing concerning you,” The leader waved his hand at Veronica. Elide was clutching her stomach where a bruise was probably forming, “You can leave now.” He said as he turned back to Elide.
"Eh, I don't feel like it. So let me ask again, okay? What the hell is going on here?" she repeated, looking down at Elide and gasping slightly.
Elide kept her gaze downwards, feeling slightly overwhelmed with all the people looking at her. “Come on, she’s not worth it anyway.” One of the bullies said and they walked off.
Veronica knelt down next to Elide and frowned. "Hey…it's okay, they're gone," Veronica said calmly.
“You… you didn’t have… have to do that,” Elide said quietly, “I’m used to.. to it.”
"Being bullied is the worst. I know how you feel, no one deserves it," Veronica said, pushing herself off the ground and holding out a hand to Elide.
Elide reluctantly took Veronica’s hand and winced as she stood up and grabbed her books, “Thanks again.” Her voice barely audible over the sound of the bell ringing and she hurriedly made her way to class.
Veronica meandered her way to class since she was so close she didn't want to be quick. She walked into class while the teacher was speaking and walked to the back. She dropped her books on the ground and sat down hard.
Elide fidgeted for the entirety of her class. It seemed to go on forever and all she wanted to do was go home. After what had happened this morning, her head was filled with negative thoughts and she couldn’t concentrate.
Veronica took out her phone and texted her sister. She was supposed to be getting off a flight in the UK around that time.
Elide asked if she could go to the bathroom, class was nearly over but she needed to get away. And luckily her teacher new it to and let her go. There was no one in the bathrooom and she shut herself in a stall and let her tears slip.
Veronica wasn't surprised when she got in trouble for being on her phone. She aimed to get in trouble so that her dad would find out. She left the room without asking and walked to the bathroom.
She heard the door open and tried to stay silent, but she ended up making a small sniff.
Veronica stood still when she heard the sniff. "Is someone here?" she asked quietly.
“Maybe.” Elide said with equal quite
Veronica recognized the voice slightly and turned toward the stall the noise came from. "Who are you?"
“Elide S.. stone. Who are you?” Elide opened the door slightly.
"Veronica…you sound familiar," she replied, cocking her head to the side.
“You.. you helped me before class.” Elide opened the door more so Veronica could see her.
"Oh! You! They didn't hurt you too bad did they? I would gladly punch them back for you," she said, suddenly mad at the group of bullies.
