He lay in his bed, sleeping for once. It was the day they had planned to do the murder and Drew was peacfully asleep.
Juliette lay in her own bed, staring at the ceiling with dread. Surprisingly, she'd had no trouble falling asleep last night, even though she had been certain it would be difficult.
But this morning, she had awoken long before she needed to – three in the morning.
There was no going back to sleep, and so she sat there, letting her mind wander.
Drew curled up with the blanket. He gradually woke up, forgetting the plans they had until it his and with it a ball of nerves.
She wondered (not for the first time) if Drew was up yet. She lay there a little longer, then decided to get up. She had to eat something, whether or not she was hungry.
He could hear someone walking around the apartment. He hoped it was Juliette and not a random person but didn't get up to see. He stayed put in his bed, happy to do that for hours.
As she walked to the kitchen, she glanced into the living room, where their supplies were sitting on the couch. She quickly turned away – in time to see the upturned bit of rug she was about to trip over.
She let out a strangled yelp and fell.
He heard a thump and sighed, "What was that?" He muttered to himself. He pushed out of his bed and opened the door to see Juliette on the floor. He tried to restrain a laugh but ended up failing.
"This isn't funny," she protested, scrambling to a standing position – trying not to smile, and winning.
"Opening my door to find you on the floor is though." He grinned as his laughter died down.
She rolled her eyes and continued her walk to the kitchen. Who knew it could be so hard to reach a simple room…
He followed and pulled out his box of Frosties and a bowl.
"So…..we do what we have to do, then head back to bar and see if K is there?" She kept her face turned away from Drew as she got out her own bowl.
"I guess," He started pouring the cereal, "I assume I'm doing the killing again."
She sighed. "I'll do it."
"I can, I mean I've already done it once. You don't need to…" He trailed off.
She glanced at him. "Exactly. You did it last time…you don't need to do it again."
He sighed, "If you're sure. But this time please actually be on board with the plan rather than stand back and look like a sad fish while I preach God."
She whipped her head up and stared at him, aghast. "You think I won't follow through?"
"I never said that," He responded quickly, "It's just last time you didn't do us any favours."
She grunted, and grabbed the cereal box, pouring a small amount of Frosties into her bowl.
He poured milk into his bowl and got out a spoon. He started to eat it.
She started to eat too, resting her head on her free hand.
He finished eating quickly and washed up his bowl and spoon.
As soon as she finished, she put her dishes away and went to the living room to gather the supplies.
