(You can if you want to, yeah)
Lucian looked over at Morrigan when he noticed her, and his mouth went dry at the sight of her. “Hey. You look.. amazing,” he said slowly, a nervous smile on his lips.

(Thanks)
For a split second, Morrigan froze up, instincts screaming at her to run as fast as she could. But she quickly brought the smile back onto her face, brighter than before, stopping directly in front of him. “Really?” She couldn’t help a bit of relief from leaking into her voice. “You- You too.”
Lucian nodded his head. “Of course. I mean, you always looked amazing before and all,” he continued before cutting himself off as he realized he was rambling. “Thank you,” he said, rubbing at the back of his neck.
“Table for Grant,” the hostess spoke up, and Lucian looked over. “That’s us,” he said and followed the hostess to the table.
Morrigan trailed after, realizing only after she’d sat down across from Lucian that she’d forgotten to breathe since she’d last spoken. She did so, hating how shaky it was. “How are you?”
Lucian sat down, smoothing his pants a bit afterwards. “I’m great, and you?” He asked, looking at Morrigan intently.
This time, Morrigan couldn’t stop her eyes from flickering away— the eye contact was too much. “I’m good.” The lie came automatically; she didn’t have to think about it before the words were rolling off her tongue.
Lucian shifted in his seat, hands rested on the table. He tilted his head as he reached up to brush his hair back again. “That’s good to hear,” he said before glancing down at the menu.
Below the table, Morrigan clasped her hands together in a tight fist, knuckles white. “What are you thinking of ordering?”
Lucain sat up a bit more as he looked through the menu. “I might get the grilled chicken. And you? He asked, looking up at her.
Anything small. "I'm not sure yet, something light. Maybe the tomato soup or a salad." She kept her eyes on the menu, pretending not to notice that he had looked at her.
Lucian nodded his head a bit. “Alright,” he said. He shut his menu and a few minutes later, a waitress came over to take their orders. He ordered for the both of them, thanking the waitress as she took their menues.
Morrigan's mind scrambled to find a topic of conversation, and in her desperation, blurted out "We don't– We don't know eachother very well, tell me a bit about yourself."
Lucian looked over at Morrigan. He was tempted to ask her if she was alright, as she seemed nervous to him. “Alright. Well, I’m an only child. My parents are both Indian, and they both had really nice jobs. It’s the steryotype- they want me to be the best and a doctor,” he said with a slight chuckle. “What’s your family like?”
Morrigan gave a nod and a small smile in answer– then froze at his question. She inhaled sharply, smile faltering for a split second as images flashed before her mind's eye. "My– Family. I have a little brother and a younger sister. Divorced parents. Not much- Not much to say, I guess." The lie pained her, especially the first one. Had. Not have.
Lucian had smiled at first, but it faltered a tad. “Are you alright?” He asked, arching a brow in question at that.
"Yeah, why do you ask?" Morrigan altered her facial expression and relaxed her shoulders, her white knuckles beneath the table remaining as the only sign of her distress.
“You just seemed a bit nervous, is all. Maybe I’m wrong, then,” Lucian said. He glanced away and around the restaurant for a moment.
"Like I said, this is my first date in a long time. Sorry." She gave a sheepish smile. "Do you like being a doctor?"
“Ah, I understand. It’s mine too,” Lucian responded with a small smile. He ran his fingers through his hair As his jaw clenched for a moment, a petite woman with long brown hair and big blue eyes flashing into his mind for a moment. He shook the thoughts off before answering. “Yeah, I do. It’s interesting and keeps me occupied.”
Morrigan definitely didn't miss the clench of Lucian's jaw or the flash of emotion in his eyes, but she pretended she hadn't noticed, not wanting to aggravate him. "It definitely seems interesting," she replied with another faked smile.
Lucian gave a nod at that. “It is. It’s not for everyone, but I think its fun,” he said. “And what about your profession?”
“Forensic science? It’s interesting, yeah.” This was good. Talking about work, it calmed her— it was a subject that wasn’t synced to her personal life. “It’s— It’s like solving mysteries.”
Lucian smiled as he nodded his head. “Yeah? That sounds pretty cool,” he commented.
She gave a slight shrug. “Yeah. Um—“ Think, conversation topics, come on… “Are you from around here? Do you live on New York, I mean?”
Lucian shook his head at that. “No. I’m frmo Chicago, but I decided to go here for college,” he explained. And because I didn’t want to be where my my fiance was shot. “What about you?”
