Morrigan stared down at their interlaced fingers, willing herself to keep it together, to be strong. When she dared to speak again, her voice was small, like a child’s. “You won’t— you won’t say to anyone? Not- Not the police?”
Morrigan stared down at their interlaced fingers, willing herself to keep it together, to be strong. When she dared to speak again, her voice was small, like a child’s. “You won’t— you won’t say to anyone? Not- Not the police?”
Lucian sighed before thinking. As a doctor, it was something like the law to tell the police those things. But Morrigan wasn’t his patient. “Morrigan.. This-.. This is something serious,” he breathed.
Morrigan’s face hardened. “And it’s closed for discussion.” She pulled her trembling hands away and pushed them into her hair.
“Morrigan, you can’t just let him walk,” Lucian told her with riased brows.
“Lucian..” Morrigan looked him straight in the eye for the first time since her confession. “Please.”
“Why wouldn’t you want him in prison?” Lucian asked. He seemed to ignore her words for a moment.
“Lucian.” Her voice broke. “Even if he gets a long sentence, which is unlikely— he’ll get out. He— He’ll come for me. He has my number. He knows where I live. I cannot send my father to prison—“
“But if he does get out, he won’t be allowed to get near you. His parole officer wouldn’t let that happen,” Lucian assured her. “You’re father hurt you in terrible ways. Don’t you want him gone?”
Morrigan realized she’d been holding her breath and let it out, waves of panicked energy practically rolling off her body. He’ll always get to me. It has been drilled into her head again and again, even before the sexual abuse had started. She’d alwaus be punished. He’d always find out. But Lucian wasn’t going to understand that, so she switched tactics. “Lucian, look at me. I can’t stand up in front of a court and recount what happened to me— even telling you is making me panic- I can’t stand up in front of my father and— and— So please, don’t make me regret telling you. Please.”
Lucian had a concerned look in his eyes as he looked at Morrigan. He needed to figure out how to handle this, just to help Morrigan. “Fine, okay,” he breathed out gently.
Her whole body relaxed at that. "Thank you.. I'm glad that out of all the people I could have told, it was you."
Lucian nodded his head a bit in response to that. “Yeah, you’re welcome..” he responded.
–But I'm sorry for dumping that all out on you. Morrigan kept the thought to herself, trying for a smile. Almost of its iwn accord, her hand reached for his again.
Lucian noticed the movement of her hand. He met hers halfway and took her hand in his, lacing their fingers together gently.
Lucian’s hand was warm against hers, comforting. Morrigan tried to ignore the tiny jolt of her heart and pulled her legs into a cross-legged position. “Is there anything you want to talk about?” she asked him quietly, successfully keeping the tremor from her voice.
Lucian let out a soft sigh. He glanced around in thought before looking back at her. “This relationship had already gone kind of far, just because we know so much already. But how about we make it official?” He asked.
Morrigan bit the inside of her cheek, considering the proposal. They had been going out for a few weeks, after all.. And it did make sense. Girlfriend. She would be his girlfriend from now on… “Sure, if that’s what you want.”
Lucian arched a brow at her words. “But do you want that?” He asked her.
“Yes,” she answered simply, and though she was unsure and afraid of the future, she was willing to give it a try.
Lucian gave her a skeptical look before nodding slowly. “It’s settled then,” he said. He was doing the right thing, wasn’t he? Summer would have wanted him to move on, right?
Morrigan mirrored his nod, tucking a lock of hair behind her ear with her free hand. “Yeah.”
Lucian brushed his hair back. “Glad you agreed,” he said, managing a small smile.
(should we skip or stay?)
(We can skip. When to, do you think?)
(another date, or something else? Would you prefer angst or fluff?)
