“I’m glad.” They sat beneath the shade of a tree, setting up their supplies.
“I’m glad.” They sat beneath the shade of a tree, setting up their supplies.
Lucian sat down in the slightly shaded area. He set down the cooler and opened it up. “What do you want to drink?” He asked.
“Just some water for now.” Morrigan unpacked the sandwiches, offering some to him. “Ham and cheese, tuna, or egg?”
Lucian took out a water bottle from the cooler and gave it to her. “Ham and cheese is good,” he responded with a smile.
They began to eat, chatting pleasantly. Morrigan carefully removed her sweater to espouse the black floral shirt beneath, not breaking the conversation.
Lucian had glanced at the floral shirt when he saw her take the sweater off. “That’s a nice shirt. It looks good on you,” he commented.
“Oh— thanks,” she responded, feeling unusually spoilt by all the attention.
Lucian smiled in response to that. “You’re welcome,” she hummed in response.
(What should they talk about?)
(Hm, let me think. They’ve already talked about a lot of things lol)
(Yeah
Sorry
Uh
Any deep conversation topics in mind?)
(Lucian could try asking about her past again? Or he could bring up wanting to go official and have the boyfriend/girlfriend status)
(Yeah sure, either works for me
Maybe Morrigan could ask more about his fiancée?)
(Yeah, that would be good with me)
(Alright
Want me to start?)
(Sure, go on ahead)
They'd been at the park for a good twenty minutes now, and Morrigan couldn't help but enjoy the strange, bubbly sensation that had filled her from almost the beginning. Their discussions had been nice, fun, but it was getting to be small talk… and they were going out, weren't they? Would it be the right time to discuss more personal things?
"Lucian? Is it okay- Is it okay if I ask you something about your old fiancée?"
Lucian had been enjoying the conversation so far. Sure it was getting slow, but they could get it back. But he felt something clench up inside of him at the mention of Summer. “Go on ahead,” he said after a moment of hesitation.
"What was she like?" Morrigan bit the inside of her cheek. "If it's too painful it's fine– it was a nosy question."
Lucian glanced down at his hands. For a moment, he saw her blood staining them. “It’s.. it’s fine,” he told Morrigan. She was One of the best. She was a very sensitive woman, more of the quiet type. But around me she was always smiling and happy. And she was always able to put me in a good mood. She just had that warm energy about her.”
Morrigan brought her knees to her chest and wrapped her arms around them, her full attention on Lucian. “And you said- You said her name was Summer?”
Lucian ran his hand through his hair. “Yeah, Summer Brookes. Guess for a very brief time it would have technically been Grant instead of Brookes,” he rambled before shutting himself up.
“I’m sorry,” she told him softly, and carefully reached out to place a light hand on his shoulder.
When Morrigan would put her hand on Lucian’s shoulder, the tension in his muscles was obvious. “It’s fine. It’s been about two years, I guess I’ve had time to cope,” he said slowly. Cope? You have a photo of her sitting on your nightstand and even more on your phone.
She cursed herself for being so rash and insensitive, for bringing his pain to the surface. "It takes a while to come to terms with death.." Morrigan murmured to him.
