Bane bit his tongue, watching Kin struggle. He didn't know what to do, pain raising in his chest. It became difficult to breathe. Small whimpers came from his throat and he moved over to Kin. The scent of death grew heavy in the air. "I don't know what to do." Bane kneeled over the boy. "I- I can't fix it." He scanned Kin's body, putting a hand on his arm. "No. I will carry you. I will find a healer. I will do anything but leave you here." The hound snarled. He would not let quietus take hold of the boy.
Ember had been dry heaving her lungs burning from the river water her eye had healed slightly but she still couldn't see out of it, she would keep the scare and it would be a reminder that she couldn't fight, to protect herself or anyone else. She crawled over to where bane and kin where and she looked at kin her eye focusing as best it could, she hadn't been paying attention to what happened because she was trying to stay conscious and hadn't seen what was going on, "what's going on..? What happened to you? "
Kin coughs again, more blood dripping from his mouth. He keeps his eyes closed, unable to speak much. He musters up enough strength to mumbles, “B-broken…ribs…b-bleeding…” He coughs, gasping for breath.
Kin slowly started losing consciousness. Oh…he still wanted to help his friends. But he couldn’t help them if he was dead. So Kin lay there, doing all he could to stay alive long enough for his body to start healing. Even if it was only slightly.
Bane was a Hellhound. He ruled over the shadows and death. Surely, he could stabilize Kin’s soul. Bodies were fragile. He sniffed the air, judging the direction death moved. Too close for comfort. “I can’t do much about the injury. But I can keep you from death’s doors. After all, it is my realm. My job to —“ Look after the dead? No. That’s not what a Hellhound does. They guard hell and drag souls away. They’re tough with it. Not kind. With a sigh, Bane sat on his knees, watching over Kin. He was going to make sure death did not draw close. A hellhound could only do so much outside the realm of death, but if Kin were to die, he'd be able to protect their ghostly friend.
Kin slowly lost all consciousness, his breathing slowing down. He stayed there for the rest of the day, drawing closer and closer to deaths door. Blood kept dripping from the poor boys mouth, and every few minutes or so, he’d stop breathing entirely. There would be a pause, then Kin would gasp for breath, coughing.
Bane shifted into his hellhound form, laying against Kin’s back. Physical touch helped keep souls anchored to the hound, letting him anchor and protect the most valuable, delicate part of a person. Bane watched the sunset. His ears were angled forward, keeping out for sounds. His father had disappeared, but he wasn’t sure where. The hound noticed red eyes in the dark forest. He growled, keeping other hellhounds away. This soul was his to guard. Only his. Any creature of death would be driven away by the hound the size of a Shetland pony.
Bane pressed his nose against Kin’s face, watching the blood dribble out of his mouth. He felt guilty. His father had injured him. His father. Bane couldn’t fix the damage, leaving him useless. Bane adored the kid. Both Kin and Ember were now under his guardianship, and he failed.
Ember sat next to kin quietly the vision in her right eye was completely gone, her eye now a mixture of light grey and amber. She held kin's hand and sighed softly the wind blowing her hair gently, the world was no longer beautiful to her it was a cold dark place filled with dangerous creatures such as herself and bane.
"I'm.. Sorry- I should have done more to help than what I did. " she spoke softly it was unclear who she was talking about she was looking at the ground trying to focus on the grass blowing in the breeze.
Kin’s hand twitches slightly. It felt and looked like how a dead bug twitched. The only way you could tell he was still alive, was the slow rise and fall of his chest. And even then, he’d still suddenly stop breathing, then gasp. All through the night, the poor boy lay paralyzed. He stayed oblivious to the world around him, not even knowing that several time over, he would have easily been swept away by lady death herself.
As morning came, small popping and cracking sounds could be heard from Kin’s chest. Finally he was slowly starting to fix himself. But sadly, this process would take several hours, even a day or two to fully heal him. And even then, he still would continue to have problems. Probably for the rest of his life. It was too late now…not making it to a healer in time, meant this injury was going to leave a permanent mark. He was now going to always be in danger. He now owed death.
As the sun shown through the trees, Kin slowly started to open his eyes. He was still bleeding, but at least he was healing. Kin slowly looks around, blood still slowly dripping from his mouth. His eyes landed on Ember, and he smiled ever so slightly. He felt relieved she was alive. Kin reaches for her slightly, but instantly regrets his movement as pain shot through him.
Bane whined, touching his nose to Kin’s shoulder. The kid’s scent reeked of death mixed with his original scent. The kid was suffering. He was suffering more than Bane would prefer. However, the only thing he could do was to rip the soul out of the damaged body. But he didn’t think they would appreciate his efforts. Bane still pressed his back against Kin’s, the hound keeping the kid warm. Hellhounds were like furnaces. He looked over at Ember, shaking his head. He barked at her, hoping she could understand him. Bane said something along the lines: “It’s not your fault. You did your best. You were injured.”
By the time morning rolled around, the hound had curled upon himself, tail over his nose. The fight sapped his energy. Each of his wounds looked gnarly. They might have slopped bleeding, but they crusted over, and dark bruises formed around them. Bane’s ears sprung forward, and he opened his eyes. The popping noises bothered him, but he let Kin. The hound got to his paws, shaking off his pelt. Immediately, he paced back and forth, whimpering. How could he already fail as a guardian? Why did he allow himself to be frozen by fear? To be hurt? To let others get hurt? Bane huffed, bounding over to kin’s side. The kid had woken. The hound licked Kin’s face, lapping up the dried, sticky blood.
Kin smiled softly, slowly reaching over and petting Bane. He was somewhat shaky and definitely weak. He coughs up more blood, then decides to stop moving entirely. The more he moved, the more he bled. He knew that in a few hours, he’d be completely paralyzed. The only thing Kin could probably move, were going to be his eyes.
Kin looks at Bane. “Don’t…b-blame yourself…” He mutters, coughing again.
Bane laid down by Kin's head, letting the kid pet him as he pleased. It soothed some people. Others it didn't. He wrapped his tail around his body, addressing the kid's state. It didn't look good. Bane whimpers, laying his head down on his paws. It was his father that attacked them. He could have stopped him. Let Kin and Ember run while he was dragged back to Obelisk. Bane whined again, his ears pressed against his head. The three needed to get on the moved. Obelisk was bound to be hot on their trail. However, Bane wasn't sure Kin could be moved. It seemed every slight movement made him bleed more.
Ember squeezed kin'd hand tightly, fear rising in her stomach she felt as if she were still in the river she couldn't breathe, she was drowning in her own fear she took some deep breaths trying to calm herself down, she had heard what band said but was to consetrated on breathing to answer. She opened her eyes and turned to bane with a pained face "can't we do anything for him? You said you had a friend where is he??. " she was frantically asking questions trying to figure out what to do, she'd never faced issues like this in the past how would she ever live in this world if she was this clueless.
( if this doesn't match with any of your guyses reply I'm sorry. I didn't have the chance to read anything.)
(Ngl, I totally forgot Bane can like — shadow travel two people to a healer 💀)
(Would that kill Kin?)
(XD it might- if Kin moves around too much or gets moved around he could.)
