"Then I'll have to-Uh-" He continued to grow flustered, searching his brain for a good threat, "I'll…send the sharks after you!" He suddenly exclaimed, a small smirk growing on his face.
"Sharks, with LEGS!" He exclaimed, throwing his arms around.
"Riiiight. Can these…sharks with legs get onto boats?" Luke questioned, smirking again and leaning even closer, one eyebrow raised. His brown hair was flopping into his face.
"Maybe- I mean, Yes! Yes, they can." He corrected himself, his smirk widening, "In fact, they can EAT an entire battleship in one bite!" He whispered, deepening his voice for dramatic effect.
Luke let his eyes go big, staring at Aegir. "No!" he whispered back, hiding his smile. He was enjoying this. Sitting in the shallows with Aegir, talking back and forth.
"Oh yes. I should know, one ate me!" He joked, nodding his head. He gestured for Luke to come closer and whispered in his ear. "In fact, I DIED."
Luke's eyes went wider, and he looked at Aegir. "You did?" he asked in the same light, joking, teasing voice. "But you look perfectly alive to me!"
"That's what I want you to think!" He said, nodding his head as he spoke. "I'm really a GHOST!" He yelled, wiggling his fingers in Luke's direction.
Like smirked a little. "Oh? Can I do this to a ghost?" He asked. He reached over and ran a finger down Aegir's shoulder, still smirking at him.
Aegir couldn't help but tense a bit, his face burning as he struggled to come up with a response.
"I- well, uh..No?" He squeaked out, eyes wide with embarrassment.
Luke laughed a little, that smirk still there on his face. "Well, then therefore, you can't be a ghost!" he exclaimed, smiling and laughing.
The merman let out a defeated whine, falling back into the shallow water, throwing his arms over his head.
"Fine, you got me." He complained, hiding his red face from view.
Luke smiled, watching the merman. "Mm. Good." he replied.
Aegir sighed, sitting back up, shaking the saltwater from his black hair.
"How do you do that?" He asked, a small pout on his face. "I wouldn't be able to tell the difference."
"Do…what?" Luke asked, confused by what Aegir meant. He cocked his head a little bit, smiling still.
"Know I wasn't a ghost!" He exclaimed, throwing his hands up in the air, " If someone told me they were a ghost I wouldn't be able to know the difference!"
Luke laughed. "For one thing, you seem very much alive. For another…" He shrugged. "I don't know." He smiled at Aegir.
He nodded, approving of Luke's reasoning.
"So…is there anything else you wanna know?" He asked, a hesitant smile on his face as he turned to look out at the waves.
Luke shrugged again. "I…I don't know." He replied. "What about you? Is there anything you want to know?"
"Well, uh..obviously walking isn't the best way to get from place to place…are there any faster ways humans have to get around?" He asked, scratching the back of his head, "Besides boats, I mean."
He smiled. "Yeah! We've got like…cars, which are…" He screwed up his face, trying to figure out how to describe it. "I uhm…cars are like boats, but with wheels." He described. "Wheels are…you know what wheels look like, right?"
"Uh…no, I don't think I do.." He replied rather sheepishly, his face heating up with embarrassment. "Is that what makes them go?"
Luke nodded. "Uh huh. They're round, and rubbery, and they roll. I'll bring my car next time so you can see what I mean."
"Wow, being a human sounds so much cooler than the books say." He sighed, a frown on his face. "They really get a lot wrong about you guys…"
Luke frowned a little. "What do the books say?" He asked slowly. "If they're so wrong?"
"Well, my entire life I was raised to believe that you guys where cruel.." He sighed, resting his chin in the palm of his hand, a frown etched onto his face. "They talk about how your kind is idiotic and care about nothing but themselves and their own personal gain."
Aegir wiggled in his spot a bit, resting a hand on Luke's shoulder.
"You aren't like that, other humans, though?" He shrugged scrunching up his nose as he recalled the time he watched a group of humans harass another smaller human. "I'm not so sure about them.."
