Bucky pushed his hair back, tucking it behind his ears, then continued to tie his shoe. He bit his lip a little bit.
(Is Steve gonna trip, or what?)
Bucky pushed his hair back, tucking it behind his ears, then continued to tie his shoe. He bit his lip a little bit.
(Is Steve gonna trip, or what?)
(idk im a bit confused— i thought steve was gonna trip on buckys untied shoelaces and that how they'd go tumblin down?)
(yeah me too? But the shoelaces aren't tied yet so idk)
(so should they be walkin near the fountain and then trip?)
(yeah. So should Bucky not tie his shoe very well, or what?)
(yeah, that would do it, I think.)
The sound of quiet laughing brought Steve's gaze to the nearby scatter of people. "Hey, another fountain, look at that." Steve smiled, looking at the spray of water that softened into a mist of softened rainbows.
Bucky stood, forgetting about the shoelace, which was only half tied. He looked. "Hm. Looks pretty." He replied with a shrug.
"Yeah," Steve smiled, slowly walking further down the path. "I don't think this was here…before. He observed as they neared it.
Bucky nodded a little bit. "Well. Things change." He replied as they walked, looking around a little bit as they went.
"Mhm," Steve quietly agreed, studying the cool gray stone of the fountain as they approached it. A flock of doves caught his eye, leading his gaze away and distracting him from the fountain's edge. "Wow, look at that," Steve said with a smile, unknowingly stepping on his shoelace.
Bucky went to take another step, and tripped, shoelace trapped. He stumbled and fell, accidentally pulling Steve with him.
"Buck–" Steve said through a flustered attempt to regain their balance but failing, falling with Bucky as the fountain's edge seemed to pull their feet out from under them, welcoming them to the frigid waters. His legs had found their ways to the opposite sides of Bucky, and his hands that had come out to brace his fall were stationed the same.
Bucky stared up at Steve with wide eyes, his brown hair fanning out in the water, the water lapping at his body. Luckily, it wasn't deep enough for his whole body to be submerged, and he could still breathe without any effort.
Steve was frozen in a quiet shock, surprise firmly planted on his expression, and déjà vu swirling around in his thoughts; telling him this had happened before. And it had. He didn’t know if he wanted to laugh or to smile, apologize, or to go ‘fuck it all’ and press his mouth to his. “Um…” Was all he could make out in his nervousness, trying to keep his eyes from wandering.
Bucky blinked, blue eyes still wide as he tried to figure out what to do. His clothes were soaked now, absorbing the water and soaking it up.
Soft laughs and amused gasps shook Steve out of his nervous spiral, catching his attention. A few people had stopped to look at the splash, some even snapping photos. "Oh– um, we should probably–" He stammered, trying to get off of him.
Bucky blinked, and nodded. "Y-yeah, we…" He swallowed, throat dry from the proximity to Steve. What he knew that this looked like and…and part of him almost wished it were.
Steve slowly moved off him, cheeks flushed from the closeness they had just shared and the people stirring around. And the strangest thought had begun to form in his mind– one so unrealistic and nonsensical that he didn't hesitate in pushing away. "C'mon, my place isn't too far, I think." Steve nodded, helping Bucky out of the fountain.
Bucky nodded a little. A faint blush dusted his own cheeks with pink. His eyes darted around the crowd and he bit his lip slightly. He ran a hand through his wet hair, his soaked clothing sticking to his body.
Steve shook his head, pressing his lips together and trying to hide his grin at the expressions of the new yorkers passing them by, "Wow." He said, looking down at his soaked jeans, a quiet laugh of disbelief following his escaped smile, "So that happened."
Bucky laughed a little bit. "Mhm." He agreed, shaking his head a little bit. "Yeah."
"It's weird–" Steve shook his head, "Just then…I– well, I don't know if you did, but I felt the strangest sense of déjà vu; and It's just…wild to think that– that happened before."
He blinked. "I…" he shrugged his shoulders slightly. "I don't know…I don't remember." he replied, trying to distract himself from the way he had wanted Steve to kiss him.
"Yeah, I know." Steve smiled faintly, running his hands through his damp hair and recognizing the diner a block from his apartment. "But…I don't know," He shrugged, It felt like fate, "It just felt like…some type of do-over, if that makes sense."
He studied Steve for a moment, then shrugged. "It…kind of doesn't? But alright." he replied, running a hand through his wet hair. It dripped water droplets as he did so.
(Ughhhh I want them to actually kiss but at the same time I wanna waiiittttt argghh)
