" are you ready to go back to bed" she asked

”No. The bad man waiting.” she trembled as tears started forming again.

She bounced the girl in her arms

”Scared, mama.” she whispered, still holding Betty.

" hold her for a minute" she said to lysander and when he heard her went back into the room out of view

Lysander nodded and carefully held their daughter, who immediately started crying again. Hoping to calm her back to sleep, he started humming softly.

Betty came back out holding the stuffed dog

Lysander smiled at her as she came back, still humming for Laura-Beth.

She held the dog out to Laurabeth
