He could hear her crying and gently knocked on the bathroom door. ”Betty?”

She only cried harder at the sound of his voice

He winced as the sound broke his heart. ”Betty, please. I am so sorry. I didn't mean to be away so long.” he apologized.

She scooted away after unlocking the door

He sighed, a little relieved at the fact that she was letting him in, and opened the door. As soon as he saw her, he dropped to his knees in front of her. ”I’m so sorry.” he said reaching out to her.

Betty was curled up her legs pulled tightly to her chest

He dropped his hand back to his side. ”Why is it I always seem to do the one thing that I never want to do?” he groaned, not really asking anyone.

"a-am I not good enough?" She asked

He looked at her in surprise for a moment at the question before he carefully took her into his arms. ”No. No, it's not you, angel. You are perfect.” he assured her. ”I’m the screw-up. I don't deserve you.”

She wrapped an arm around him and cries into his shoulder

He held her comfortingly and rested his head against hers. ”I’m so sorry.” he told her before letting out a humorless chuckle at himself. ”I really am no good. I mean, ever since I became a vampire I’ve done a lot that I'm not proud of. I’ve tried to be better for you, yet all I seem to do is hurt you.” he said softly.

" p-please don't leave" she begged

He shook his head. ”I won't. I know how you feel about that. I’ll stay.” he promised. ”I’ll stay.”

Shr cried her shoulders bouncing

He continued to hold her. He wouldn’t leave her like that again… he wouldn’t leave her side for the rest of the day. He started rubbing her back in comforting motions.

'h-h e was here" she said

Lysander stiffened at her words. ”Alec?” he asked, almost begging to be wrong. But who else could it be? Alec was the only person Betty was really afraid of.

She nodded " he's gonna get me Ly" she trembled

He shook his head firmly. ”I won't let him. I promised to protect you.” he said, holding her closer. ”I know I haven't been doing a good job of it but I won’t leave you again. I promise.”

She cried into his shoulder

He wouldn't tell her to stop crying. As much as he hated seeing his brave wife like this, but he wouldn't make her stop before she was ready. ”I know that probably doesn't mean much considering what I've just done but I won't leave you alone. I won't let him near you.”

" H-He won't stop' she said

”I’ll make him.” he assured. By killing him.

She closed her eyes shaking uncontrollably

He sighed softly and held her close. In an effort to be more calming for her, he warmed himself up to an almost human warmth.
