WARNING: Mature themes will be discussed in this. If you are not comfortable with them, don’t join.

Disclaimer: No, the characters in this are not actually sex workers. Stick with this until the end, it’ll be worth it I promise.

The ladies of the night are not all that they seem…

Victoire Benoit poses as a prostitute by night, the faceless woman behind closed doors. She runs a house full of other workers— or at least, that’s what their nocturnal visitors believe them to be. The Crimson Flower, as it’s called, is little known to those not hunting for such endeavours, and the few visitors it receives are usually unsavoury, terrible people.

Which is why, the women of The Crimson Flower have no qualms about drugging them before they’ve received what they’ve payed for and handing them off smugglers. Of course— the smugglers in question are civil, and like the ‘lovely ladies’, (or, the Scarlet Order, as they call themselves) have a Robin Hood sort of mentality, “rob the rich to feed the poor.”

The unsavoury men (and occasionally women) find themselves behind bars before a complicated routine of bribery and blackmail a few countries over.

But the Scarlet Order doesn’t just hand off whatever men happen to stumble in, their moral compasses are much stronger than that. No, they get rid of those who have been reported to them through letters sent by people calling for help, people who have been put in awful situations by the subject of their messages. They’re often abused wives, people put under threat, even children running from someone who can hardly be called a human being. They’ll send out an S.O.S., a cry for aid, to the Valecross Mill, where a man working with the Order will pick them up and bring them to the awaiting women. After that, the ladies will take care of the person in question, all the callers have to do is get them to The Crimson Flower.

Occasionally, the men and women handed off to the smugglers are good, terrified people seeking an escape— which is exactly what they are given. Those who come to the Flower for a night of enjoyment without a letter having been sent are simply drugged, lied to, and sent on their way with no harm done to either party.

The ladies of the Order themselves are running from their past, hiding from family or past lovers. Some were abused, some were taken advantage of, some were left on the streets without money and were pulled out by Victoire, but either way they’re all tortured in some fashion. And all of them have a hunger for justice in this cruel city.

It’s a cold world, and only the craftiest rise to the top. But for the weak ones in need, there’s always the Scarlet Order.

@Althalosian-is-the-father book

Daaaaaang this is good! (I won’t be joining) I especially approve of the fact that you acknowledged the prejudice against homosexuality. Far too often everyone who is a “good guy” is automatically a fighter for racial freedom or something when it makes absolutely no sense for the time period.

@blue_topaz

Heyo
And yeah, thanks! Obviously some will be accepting and that’s a great thing, but it’s not realistic to expect it from all protagonists
