“You’re a lifesaver,” Clare hummed, opening it and taking a bite. “I wonder how close we are. Maybe we can go to the top of that ridge and see if we can see anything,” she said, nodding over to the ridge.
“You’re a lifesaver,” Clare hummed, opening it and taking a bite. “I wonder how close we are. Maybe we can go to the top of that ridge and see if we can see anything,” she said, nodding over to the ridge.
"Alrighty, let's go up to the spooky ridge so we can see the spooky forest better," Connor said sarcastically before looking in that general direction
“Ah, shut up,” Clare said, a slight chuckle in her tone. She walked up the hill to the top of the ridge, and there wasn’t much to see. Just a flat area with a bunch of trees.
"Well, this was useful," Connor said with a roll of their eyes. They looked around for a minute, scowling as they did so. "Why did we bother coming up here?"
“I thought there might be an actual clearing, or a ledge that we could see the end of the forest from,” Clare said, looking around at the trees. But she looked over at a tree, and grabbed onto Connor’s arm to get their attention. She could have sworn that there was a hand resting high up on the tree. “Oh my fucking god, Connor, do you see it?” She asked, voice lowered.
Connor looked around stupidly for a moment before spotting what looked like a hand. They crouched down, eyes wide as they felt themself freeze up a bit. "Ohh motherfucker, we're gonna die," they breathed out
Clare watched the hand, her eyes widening and grip tightening on Connor’s arm when the hand moved off of her trunk and out of sight. Then, there was the noise of what sounded like something very large making its way through the trees. “We have to go, come on,” she said quickly, voice lowered to a panic whisper.
"Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck," Connor began to hiss quietly. They grabbed onto Clare's arm before beginning to run. They didn't even know which direction they were going, just that they needed to get the hell out of there
Clare had felt frozen, but she forced herself to run, keeping up with Connor. “What the hell was that?!” She asked in the same tone as before. It was a hand, a human hand but it was far up, like someone had been on a ladder or something. But then those noises. She hadn’t been able to see anything well because of the branches, but there was something big over there.
"I don't know and I don't care. I make some freaky shit, but that looked like…like freaky shit that you don't make up!" Connor said, their voice quiet but panicked as they continued running. They weren't the most athletic person in the world, but if a giant monster was chasing them, then fuck it
“There was something over there, there was something definetly over there,” Clare said, continuing to run alongside Connor. She glanced over her shoulder, then back over to them. “I don’t see anything anymore.”
"I don't care, we're still going to aggressively speedwalk away from whatever the hell that was," Connor said frantically, keeping their voice down still as they slowed a bit
“It was obviously huge, or at least it sounded huge. And the hand was so small- it doesn’t make any sense,” Clare pointed out, now jogging as she kept looking over her shoulder every once in a while.
"Fucking, I don't know. Maybe the thing was like a giant freaky centaur or some shit. With like…dinosaur hands," Connor said, laughing a little at the mental image that provided
Clare laughed a bit, but quickly tried to shut herself off. “Okay, as hilarious as that would look, I think it would look a little more terrifying. What if whatever that was was the one that stuck the deer up in the tree?”
"Oh, I'm pretty damn sure that was the thing that put the deer in the tree. I mean, what else would have done it? We saw a creepy black hand that looked pretty capable of putting a big ass elk in a tree," Connor pointed out
Clare slowed to a fast past walk eventually, smoothing her hair back the best she could. “Ohh, we are so going to fucking die,” she said.
"No shit, sherlock. Great deduction you got there," Connor scoffed with a roll of their eyes. "If we're lucky, our deaths will be famous in a few years."
“We are walking through some giant ass forest, people are going to assume we got lost somewhere on the trail. And even if they do look through the woods, how do we even know that they will find our possible bodies?” Clare asked.
"Well, we're near a trail, right? That means people have been here, or are here now. So maybe we'll be found and we'll…I don't know, become local legends or something," Connor said with a shrug
“Local legends? Like hey, two fucking idiot teenagers took a shortcut through the woods and fucking died because the trail would take too long to finish. That’s a shitty legend,” Clare hummed.
"Yeah, but maybe they'll change it up so we come back as ghosts or some shit. Ooh, maybe we come back as like, forest demons or something," Connor said with a small grin
“As awesome as that sounds, I don’t think that I would want to be trapped in this forest during this afterlife. That’s still creepy as fuck,” Clare pointed out.
"Yeah, fair point," Connor responded with a shrug. "But hey, we'd get to go exploring or something. Freak hikers out, meet satan's henchmen, that sort of thing."
Clare laughed and nodded her head a bit. “We wouldn’t have to worry about a creepy ass thing coming after us,” she said.
