Sophia relaxed as the sound of footsteps faded, and she got to her feet, dusting herself off.

Lau blew an exasperated breath through her teeth. "Why did we have to hide? You and I could have taken 'em." She whisked her knives back into her cloak.

Sophia clenched and unclenched her fists. “I don’t kill. Also, I’d rather avoid confrontation.”

"Good for you," Lau said. "Sometimes you gotta kill people, Soph. It's just the way of things."

“Don’t call me Soph.”, Sophia growled, turning away. Only one person had the right to call her by any nickname, and he was dead.

"Don't be so hostile," Lau said, "or you'll never make friends." She smiled a sarcastic smile and continued to follow Sophia.

Sophia almost snapped back, but now that the imminent danger had passed, she felt herself slipping back into the quiet, shy Sophia she’d been ever since her Rakshan had died.

Marya returned with Luka, shooting him a glare because he kept forgetting his stuff.

"You guys ready to go?" Dawn asked them when they entered the room.

"Yeah but Marya's not coming." Luka stared pointedly at Marya.

"What?!" Dawn glared at Marya, "Either your coming or neither of us are going."
