"I have a couple of books," he offered, standing up to put his dishes away.
"I have a couple of books," he offered, standing up to put his dishes away.
Adrian blinked, looking up at him. "Really? What kind?" he asked, the corners of his lips twitching in a tiny, hopeful smile.
"All kinds, we have fiction, non-fiction, historical fiction, you get the point," Ronan smiled, noticing Adrian's sudden change in attitude. "Come, I can show you," he moved towards a short, but wide hallway that led to a larger room than the previous one. This one was lined with bookshelves, with several large bean bags and chairs and couches littering the floor. Not to mention several fluffy blankets, for even more comfort. It was practically a book heaven.
Adrian immediately went to the bookshelves, running his fingers along the spines until he found a book he wanted. He picked it up, and sat down on a chair, starting to read without another word.
Ronan watched Adrian silently, basking in the glow of his happiness, because he had something Adrian liked.
Adrian curled up in the chair, reading quietly. He glanced up at Ronan after a while. "Thank you…" he said softly.
"You're welcome, anytime!" he replied, settling down on a beanbag, pulling a blanket over himself.
Adrian's lips twitched in a tiny smile, and he went back to his book, letting out a soft sigh.
Ronan soon fell asleep, his dreams filled with happy memories.
Adrian kept reading, curled up and focused on the book before him. He didn't sleep very much at the best of times.
A little while later, Ronan awoke, stretching and yawning. As soon as his eyes adjusted to the light, he looked over at Adrian and smiled again. He was happy, very happy indeed that he had something to offer that satisfied Adrian.
Adrian kept reading. He didn't even notice that Ronan had awoken, completely absorbed in his book and his reading.
Ronan just silently watched Adrian, his mood lifting already. He might really be able to help him. In like, a really big way. Reading could be his way of relieving stress!
Adrian shifted a little, and kept reading. He was completely absorbed. It was doubtful whether he would even notice someone calling his name.
(What time of day would this be?)
(I was thinking late afternoon/evening)
(Okay)
Ronan called out his name softly. "I'm going to go make dinner, any preferences?"
Adrian flinched slightly, looking up. "I-I…okay." he said softly, hugging the book to his chest as if afraid Ronan would take it away.
"Did you have anything in mind? If not, I can whip up some spaghetti," Ronan offered.
Adrian shook his head. "Spaghetti is fine." He replied softly, swallowing slightly.
"Okay!" Ronan went to the kitchen, and started preparing to make the food.
When Ronan was gone, Adrian got up, poking around the room curiously, picking things up and setting them down again.
As he waited for the water to boil, Ronan heard the faint noises of Adrian getting up, and smiled. That was good, it meant Adrian was (hopefully) getting more used to being here.
Adrian kept looking at everything. He swallowed down a momentary wave of panic, setting something down with a clank as his hands began to shake from memories, taking a deep breath. Ronan isn't like him, he isn't going to hurt me.
When the spaghetti was ready, Ronan served it up onto two plates, and then set it in the small table for two in the other side room off of the kitchen. Walking into the book haven, (that was what he called it, at least) he cleared his throat softly. "Food's ready, it's in the other room."
