Carrio’s grin faded a bit. “That’s quite alright. I think the first few can be helped. The last couple require self-confidence. Personally, speaking on an opinion, not to be a creep, I think you are rather adorable.”
Carrio’s grin faded a bit. “That’s quite alright. I think the first few can be helped. The last couple require self-confidence. Personally, speaking on an opinion, not to be a creep, I think you are rather adorable.”
Hazel immediately froze.
She had no idea how to reply to such a thing. She didn't think Carrio was being creepy in the slightest, it was just unusual.
He offered her a job she would undoubtedly love, was super kind, and thought she was… adorable…?
Carrio busied himself with his drink, turning a faint red.
“Sorry. That was a lot. If you still wanna work with me, you know where I am, yeah?”
Hazel simply nodded dumbly, her brain not comprehending how to speak simple english in the current moment.
Carrio nodded back and took a sip of his drink. That was so dumb of me to say.
"I'm just not sure what to say…" Hazel finally managed to choke out.
"Thank you…" She said, taking a long sip of her coffee to avoid from embarrassing herself even further.
Carrio smiled a bit. Half was in relief. “You’re welcome. You deserve compliments. You’re such an amzing person.”
Hazel laughed darkly.
"Still working on believing that myself, but I appreciate it."
(My phone is about to die)
(Oof)
Carrio rolled his eyes. “You are. You need to work on your self-esteem.”
"I know… I used to be worse though," Hazel said, once again messing with her sleeves.
"I never thought I'd meet someone like you, Carrio. Even though I've said it too much, thank you for your kindness."
Carrio finished off his coffee and smiled a bit. “You’re very welcome. It’s a pleasure, I promise. I’ve never met anyone such as yourself, either.”
Hazel smiled at his comment, taking a sip of her unfinished coffee. Usually she was quite fast when drinking her coffee, the rich flavor being an all time favorite. Carrio had been quite the nice distraction though.
Carrio smiled back and put his blueberry muffin wrapping into the empty cup.
“I’m gonna go get more. Want anything?”
"I'm alright," Hazel replied, light smile playing at her features. It really wasn't good to have too much coffee during the day since it kept her awake at night. In addition to this, Hazel didn't feel she needed to bother Carrio with paying for much more. Since he might end up being her boss sooner or later…
Carrio nodded and grinned, then trotted off. He ordered two muffins and another coffee for himself, then walked back over to sit.
“Alright. Now, jobs. Would you like to work with me?”
"Actually I was about to ask you about that," Hazel said with a light laugh. Quickly pushing up her glasses from her nose, she gave a quick nod.
"It would be wonderful to work with you."
It felt all the better considering his choice of words. With, not for.
Carrio beamed. “Wonderful! How much time will you need in order to come see me about it? I know our meeting won’t take long.”
"I'll be free relatively soon. Probably give my two week notice when I go into work tomorrow. I'm usually available until noon when I work," she said, her speech a bit faster in excitement. Thanks to Carrio, Hazel would be able to work with a new friend as well as with something she loved.
Carrio grinned. “Then we can discuss it in those two weeks, alright? In that time, I can set up your hours for work.”
Hazel nodded, eager to be able to make herself useful. Perhaps with Carrio's help, she could boost her self confidence. Her lips pulled into a smile as she thought about it.
"That sounds good."
At that time, Carrio's name was called again for his order.
Carrio grinned widely. “I can’t wait!” He rose when his name was called and grabbed the muffins and coffee. He sat back down and slid her one of the muffins.
“There you go.”
Blinking at the pastry, her smile shrank slightly.
"Seriously, you've got to stop doing all this for me," Hazel said with a nervous laugh. She hadn't meant to offend him by saying this, but her family raised her in thinking nothing good happened for free. At least her father did. It was an old habit of feeling she had to pay Carrio back somehow.
"I mean the job, paying for coffee… Not that I'm upset, it just really… unusual if you get what I mean," the woman elaborated, trying to have a lighter tone. Despite an anxious thought about her weight bouncing around in her mind, she began to unwrap the wrapper around the muffin.
Carrio took no offense to it, and he waved his hand. His mother believed that kindness should be universally shared, and that he should work in every way possible to make sure those he cared about got some.
“Don’t worry about it. I’m just welcoming you to the library!”
"You sure this isn't a bribe?" she questioned teasingly as she took a small nibble from the treat in front of her. She knew it obviously wasn't, but what was the harm in attempting to open up a little?
Carrio laughed gently and added some sugar to his drink. “I think not. I’m just excited to be working with someone. It’ll be wonderful to have you.”
