Elowan considered the options. A python could be fun. From what she'd seen they were pretty big and scary. Though she couldn't say she would take the suggestion. She didn't want to bond with Erin that would only prove that her friends were right. "Eh. I think a Burmese python would be fun."
Erin frowned. "Can you buy that at a pet store?"
"Hollyn babysat one a couple weeks ago, they're not fucking rare. What should I name it? Noodle? Sir Slitersalot?" Elowan let her excitement get the best of her as she imagined all the fun she could have with a big pet snake. Her disdain for everything Erin stood for was momentarily forgotten in her childlike glee.
"I gotta say, if you're actually going to get a python, which I don't doubt, you've gotta come up with a better name than Noodle."
"Noodle is an adorable name!" Elowan pressed a hand over her chest. in what world was Noodle a bad name for a snake. Snakes were basically just living noodles, and anyone who said anything else didn't know what was going on. "What do you suggest then? Killer?"
"I don't know. I was just voicing my opinion the the name Noodle is lame. Especially for a snake that's actually cool. But I mean, name it Noodle for all I care."
"Just to spite you, I'm going to name it pasta." Burmese pythons were really big, so it probably would look like a big plate of pasta. A big sweet piece of paste who Elowan would cherish and love.
Erin grinned. "Pasta, huh?" She stopped walking in front of a building. "Is this the store?"
Elowan peered up at the sign, quickly reading the title and nodding. "Yup. This is the place." She pushed her way inside, heading straight to the back where the snakes curled and hissed and looked adorable.
Erin rolled her eyes and instead walked over to the cat aisle, still keeping an eye on Elowan.
(Sorry I've been gone, this weekend has been PACKED with studying, volunteering, and scraping for state points at a debate tournament. I really haven't been on enough, and I probably won't be here as often as I'd like until finals are over next week. For that, I apologize.)
The snakes seemed so happy as Elowan approached them. One slithered right up to her as she passed by, prompting her to pet its tiny green head and laugh as it hissed. "Hello, sweetling. How are you today?" The snake opened and closed its mouth and Elowan cooed. "Good? That's great sweety."
(It's fine!")
Erin picked up one of the kittens and it meowed at her. She laughed.
(Thanks for understanding.)
Elowan played with the little green snake for a few more minutes before moving onto the bigger snakes. None of them were as enthusiastic as the first one she played with and eventually, she went back to it. This snake certainly seemed to like her, which was probably a good thing to look for in a pet. It was definitely coming home with her. She called over Erin and showed off the little creature "I'm getting this one."
Erin turned, still holding the kitten. "I don't know much about snakes, but it seems ideal…" She held her kitten up. "But I'm getting this one."
Huh. "I dunno if you can. It's gonna spend an awful lot of time alone." Erin had said she was going to be staying with Elowan all day, and that cat wasn't getting within 50 feet of her house. She still intended to have some of her friends over, despite their hiring of an in-home help, and Sequoia was allergic to cats.
Erin huffed. "You're right… I guess." She hadn't realized what kind of commitment this job would take.
"Maybe you can quit. It would make both of our lives better." Elowan shot her a hard look, absent-mindedly patting her snake on the nose. Pasta was a really cute snake. He'd be a good addition to her life.
"I don't really think that I can back out now…" Erin said, carefully putting the kitten back. "Besides, I'm not sure I want to. You seem like a fun person."
Elowan groaned. Of course Erin wanted to stick around. Nothing in this world could ever be easy. She beckoned over an employee and began to check out. There was a lot of stuff included in the purchase, and she realized this was going to cost at least 500 dollars. Thank god this wasn't a higher quality store.
Once Elowan had finished checking out, Erin asked, "Ready to go?"
Elowan turned and nodded bruskly, snake and it's new home tucked carefully under her arm. She didn't want to accidentally hurt it and make it hate her. "Yup! Let's head out."
