"You'll just have to believe that we're on your side for now. There's really no way to know for sure who's trustworthy and who isn't, but if it makes you feel any better, I have a feeling that the both of you are trustworthy." Eve replied, trying to convince Morgan
Morgan smiled slightly, but didn't uncross her arms. "Actually, I do have proof Loki. Sort of." She looked around the boat, making sure that no one else was watching. "So you know how before we get on the boat, we go through a bunch of stuff so they know that we don't have any weapons on us?" She checked again and pulled out a small red pocket knife with her great great grandpa's name on it. Morgan grinned. "We have an advantage."
"How did you manage to sneak that past the guards?" Eve whispered, looking at Morgan with admiration and awe. "They found all my hidden weapons." she said gloomily.
"I see," Loki said, "In that case, my proof is going to be not turning you in for an unfair advantage. That's as good as it gets from me. I'm a nobody. No one knows my name, and I don't have much of a reputation- good nor bad. But it looks like you do- or at least your family does, and I'm willing to team up with you for sure."
Morgan smirked. "It was my great great grandfathers. You know, the one who escaped the island. He gave it to me after my name was announced during The Choosing Ceremony." She looked out at the island, which could now be seen in detail. The side closest to them resembled a sandy beach and Morgan could see the dock where they would get off. The right side housed gigantic jungle trees that she realized would be a great place to build a temporary home. On the left was a grassland filled with wildflowers and hills and on the far side of the island, Morgan could make out tall snowy trees.
Beta examined her dragon necklace concealing 3 small blades.
She looked around at the other teens, then looked back at Eve. She needed to make some more allys so she decied to go talk the group Eve was with. "Hello." She said once she reached them.
Morgan looked the new girl up and down, trying to determine if she could be trusted. "Hey." She responded.
"Hey Beta!" Eve replied excitedly. "Morgan, Loki, meet Beta. Beta, this is Morgan and Loki." she pointed to each of the in turn, introducing them to Beta. "Beta, we're trying to find a way off the island without the violence. We just need a few more people for our group."
Loki turned to Beta and greeted her.
"Did you need something?" He asked.
"I'm Beta" She said with a smile. She extended her hand out to the teens she hadn't met yet
Loki introduced himself. He was glad they had another ally, possibly.
Morgan shook Beta's hand reluctantly. She turned to Eva. "Why should we trust her?"
"Don't worry guys," Eve noticed their skeptical faces, "Beta's trustworthy." she commented. "I trust her and that's all it takes."
Morgan sighed. "Fine. I'm Morgan Westcott. Welcome aboard."
Beta smiled that Eve trusted her. "You guys got a plan? Those are good to have." Beta laughed a little.
"Nope!" Eve said with a laugh. "Why would we need one of those? It's not like we're being sent to our deaths." she joked, laughing and hoping the others would get her humor.
Beta laughed, she was happy that at least one other person had a sence of humor in this time.
Morgan rolled her eyes. "Guys, this is serious. We do need a plan."
Loki smiled just a little. Truly, death didn't frighten him much, but it would be nice to live.
"Well, I suppose we should learn each other's strengths and create a plan accordingly. Or at least, I imagine that would help."
"Well for starters we should have 'guard' shifts at night." Beta said.
Eve held up her hands in defense, "Sorry Morgan. First we need to elect a leader then try to get some more people. People tend to flock to someone in charge even if they don't quite have a plan yet." she said seriously this time.
Morgan nodded. "Alright, first we elect leader. Then we learn strengths and set up jobs and shifts." She paused. "So, who's leader?"
"I think we should all have a different role," Loki said, adding on to Eve's suggestion, "Sure, having a leader is great, but we can't have one person calling all the shots. Blind faith in one leader, no matter how good, is a terrible idea."
"Well," Eve started, "who wants to be leader? And don't forget to explain why, we want the right leader in charge so they don't completely take over and leave some power to the rest of the group." she finished
Morgan stood up straighter. "I'm fine with any job. Leader, hunter, scout, anything. I'll take the left over job." She looked around at the group. "I vote for Eve as leader."
