Zackary gave a soft sigh. "I'm going to sleep more, thanks for asking." He set his head down. He was feeling so delightfully warm…
Afriel glared tossing more pebbles, "so sorry your highness but the suns up so you should too." Boredom grew with in her and she sighed, "besides if you sleep any longer you won't be able to sleep tonight."
Zackary curled up again. "Blah blah ballllaaaaahhhh lemmie sleeeeeep!"
Afriel let out a huff of annoyance and stopped throwing pebbles. "Fine. But when I'm sleeping peacefully tonight and you're wide awake it'll be your fault."
Zackary hummed gently. "If I have to deal with you all day I might be sleeping like a baby again."
Afriel glared, "you know what. I was gonna leave you alone. But now?" she continued her assault of pebbles launching them at his head now.
Zackary made an angry squealing noise and scootched around so his back was facing her. "NonOnnOnOnOnOO NOT THE PEBBLES!"
Afriel laughed quietly and stopped. "I never thanked you." She said looking at her hands, "so thank you. Thank you very much." She gave a small smile that she knew he couldn't see with his back turned to her.
Zackary grunted. "You weren't so ready to thank me yesterday." He looked at her over his shoulder, rolling over on his back. His shirt rode up a little, showing a soft, plushy looking, pale belly.
Afriel looked down, her face a bright pink once again, "W-well yesterday was different. I thought you where gonna kill me." She still felt as if he'd kill her but the feeling seemed to be going away. Almost as if she could trust him. Her hair fell in her face slightly and she continued to look at the ground shyly.
Zackary hummed and set his hands on his belly. It warmed his cold hands delightfully.
"Whatever you say, sweetheart." He shifted around amongst his feathers, shutting his eyes again.
"Sweetheart!?" Afriel glared at him, "for your information I have a name and its Afriel. Afriel hope. And I will not! Go by such nicknames." She crossed her arms underneath her wings her glare hardening.
Zackary sighed. "Angel names are so hard to say thoughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. I'll just call you whatever comes to mind and go with it, I don't care."
"You don't care?" Afriel stood clenching her fists, "how'd you like it if I just called you by any name that came to mind? Like…like." She searched for a stupid name to call him but came up empty.
Zackary looked over with his eyebrows raised. His droopy gray eyes pierced her like pointy little butterknives, merely curious if the butter was melted enough.
"Like what, sweetheart?"
"Like…" Afriel threw her hands up in frustration, "I don't know! How's demon sound? How'd you like it if I called you demon all the time?" She huffed out an angry breath as she staired him down her own eyes offering a challenge all its own.
Zackary blinked boredly. "People call Demons that all the time. Others don't use our names like they do for Angels." His gaze sharpened, now like a very pointy knife, jabbing the butter.
"You should be offended then! Being bunched in with the rest like that." Afriel let out a shaky breath, "becouse you're not like the rest." She added more quietly.
Because*)
"Then what is your reason for that 'insult'? I'm used to being bunched with the Lower Demons, it's nothing. I'm just as disgustingly awful as the others…" He sighed and curled up in a ball again, hiding his plushy belly.
"You're not like the others though," Afriel sat back down once again wrapping herself in her wing for warmth. It offered little but was better then nothing. "You're actually nice for a demon."
Zackary made a faint dog-like growl and wrapped his large wings around himself. He seemed to be done talking for now.
Afriel sighed and inched over to the edge so she could sit and look apon what little she could see. Which wasn't much, but it was better then just watching the demon sleep.
Zackary curled up into his wings, his eyes still open.
Generalization… Angels have it so lucky… He felt a surge of jealousy.
Afriel, for the first time in years, let her mind wonder. She thought of her friends who'd died, her comrads. Memorys of life and death happening behind her eyes that now seemed to be in a far off land. Guilt clenched at her stomach, I should have been there. but another part of her knew she'd have died with the rest.
