"He's a human too Yuki! He's in just as much pain as everyone else! He's not a monster!" Rowan shakily got to her feet, walking over to Yuki and resting her hand on her shoulder.
"He's a human too Yuki! He's in just as much pain as everyone else! He's not a monster!" Rowan shakily got to her feet, walking over to Yuki and resting her hand on her shoulder.
“Everyone is a monster!” Yuki exclaimed.
"I'm not keeping her as a test subject, Yuki. Actually.." He cleared his throat, looking at his watch. "She isn't supposed to be here anymore. She was supposed to be transferred hours ago. But she's staying here." He looked her in the eyes, face straight. "I'm not supposed to have her anymore."
“Where would she have been transferred?”, Yuki wondered aloud. “And why do you still have her.”
"Combat training. I made the excuse that she wasn't well enough yet to train; but that was over two days ago; they know by now that she's fine or I'm covering my ass. As for why I still have her. Take a wild guess." He spun in his chair, looking over his notes and sighing, slowly memorizing everything he could.
"Armand… You could get in serious trouble for this." Rowan narrowed her eyes in concern. "You should've let me go."
"It's already done," he turned and smiled, "I'm actually looking forward to it. I've been aching to have some one on one time with my President; I'm afraid a violation like this is the only way to do that any longer. I think her assistants are telling her things. And this way, you're safe." he looked at his feet before returning to his desk.
(Gotta go to bed soon.)
"Just be careful how you handle this. What would you even say to her?" Rowan fussed worriedly, trailing absentmindedly behind Armand.
“So, were is the President now?”, Yuki casually asked.
"I don't know, and even if I did, I wouldn't tell you." His voice cut through to Yuki as he kept his back to them. "I'm not sure," he replied back to Rowan. "We used to be good friends; but I've not even seen her for close to a year now. I've got to try to tell her how misguided all of this is.." He sighed.
“What do you mean by friends? Would she actually listen to you?”, Yuki said in disbelief. “Didn’t know the old woman actually had friends, or people she pretended to sort of like.”
"Of course she does… or did at least. Everyone started out normal. Who knows what really changed her." Rowan shook her head sadly.
“Changed her? Rowan, you need to learn that some people are just bad people.”, Yuki sighed.
"I don't think it's like that. I think something happened." Rowan bit her lip, eyes narrowing with suspicion.
“Just be careful. You can’t trust everyone.” Yuki didn’t want Rowan to get tricked by the Harris.
"I'll be speaking with her alone. Yuki, of course I consider Harris my friend. I wouldn't be alive if it weren't for her." He bit his lip, glaring at her a little before pulling it off of her. He understood her anger. But it wasn't how she used to be. "If I'm exiled, or killed, so be it. I'm trying. There's not a lot this body is good for anyhow."
"Armand." Rowan gave him a warning glare. "I'm sure you've helped a lot of people. Don't ever say you're not good for anything." She scolded.
“Do you really believe she is your friend, Armand? Maybe one of her many people working for her, but not a friend. Remember our talk yesterday? She thinks of you as a tool. She is using you.”, Yuki gave him a glare. There was anger in those silver eyes. “She doesn’t care about you.”
Armand raised his voice at her, but he wasn't yelling; he shot a glare right back. "Who are you to tell others how people feel about me? You don't know her personally, and you haven't seen her change like I have!" His voice cracked for a moment as he felt tears coming to his golden eyes. "Before I was tortured, I was running to be her Vice President, so that we could stand together and I could help her make decisions; but I wasn't able to after the burns.. I didn't see her at all anymore due to recovering and transfer in positions, and we haven't talked much for a long while." He turned away from them, beginning to fill a bag with devices and some samples from his lab.
“I have seen her, Armand! Not only have I seen and experienced the prison camp she made, but I also… talked with her. Even when I was seven, I was still a very dangerous prisoner and she would come down to my cell to laugh at me. She would always say that I belonged in a cage. That I’m just a caged animal!”, Yuki started to yell. “Who are you to say that I don’t know her personally?!”
"Then we're even." He gruffed. "Get out of here before someone confronts me. I'm kind of hoping Nyir is my officer." he didn't turn back to them.
As Nyir wandered back down the halls for what felt like the one millionth time, she thought over what the general told her about Armand. She wished she could defend him, but there was no way. Chances are, the old fool had a plan anyway. She walked into his office, a yawn on her lips. "Dr. Watt. President Harris requests your compliance. You're to come with me." She said these words with little luster. He knew he was being summoned. She smiled grimly at him.
“I think you know that she doesn’t care about you. Not since you were injured. You just don’t want to admit it to yourself.” Yuki understood why Armand was lying to himself. She knew she has been lying to herself too. Yuki stopped talking as soon as Nyir walked in. “Here to lock me in a cell?”, she growled at Nyir.
"Not everything is about you, kid," Nyir replied casually. "I'm here for Dr. Watt."
“Don’t call me kid.”, Yuki said in a threatening voice.
