Rowan was still crying a little, but she felt a lot safer being with Yuki than she did being curled up helplessly on the floor. She tried to make eye contact with Armand, but he avoided her gaze. "Thanks, Yuki." She whispered weakly.

Nyir hadn't moved for a long time. He took it upon himself to fire another electric round aimed for the strong woman's chest; hoping to stun the heart and in effect and render her useless at least for a short time until the soldiers would be able to help. "I never tricked anyone. I told her not to get close." he indeed had warned her. "You keep saying I've done so much bad." The weapon whirled again snaps of electricity buzzing around his hand. "I'm just doing what I can to protect everyone here." He said the last part quietly and mostly to himself. They wouldn't believe him, anyways.
"You're a damn hypocrite, Yuki." Nyir was almost laughing. Yuki was effortless to read. "You are projecting your guilt onto us, people who are trying to help. Rebels kill. You've killed. You don't hesitate like I do, you just kill in cold blood. You act so righteous when in reality, you kill anyone who doesn't openly defy Harris. Don't think for a moment I dont know you."
"T-Then what about me?" Rowan spoke up, looking at Nyir. "Do you know me? Do you know who I am?" Her body was draped weakly over Yuki's back. Electricity still pulsed through her system, but she raised her head just enough to look Nyir in the eyes, her gaze occasionally flickering to Armand. It wasn't quite a glare. There was fear, sadness, and a mixture of feelings Rowan couldn't quite understand. Perhaps longing to be in a place of security. Maybe it was defeat to this situation. To ever going home or seeing her family again. Maybe it was hurt at the way Armand seemed to shoot her without hesitation. Rowan shook her head, tears welling up in her eyes. "Do you?" She repeated quietly. With that she lowered her head to rest on Yuki's shoulder, fresh tears streaming down her cheeks as she let her eyes settle on Kodiak.
"Rowan, you're just plain naive. Your innocence, however endearing, is not an asset. You want to believe the world is kind, that rebels are like the ones from old dystopian books and everyone can be kind. But you're wrong. The world is dark and cruel and all we can do is protect the ones we love." Nyir's voice wasn't loud. It was passionate, but she hardly raised her voice above a whisper. She was an intimidating presence.
Armand never doubted his shots. Never. After years of misplaced trust he knew he could trust his own weaponry and skill to do what he needed it to. He looked at Rowan now, without a problem. Nyir was next to him and he didn't feel alone against them any more. Though the question was aimed for his friend, he intercepted it after she answered it, "You're someone who doesn't even belong in this little distorted world of ours." He locked on her eyes brimming with emotion, matching his with those that lacked it.
"Why can't they be then? We all have a choice to be kind. I-I don't want to fight." Rowan admitted, clutching onto Yuki a little tighter. "I don't want to be invincible." She stared at Armand. "I don't want anymore loss. I just want to help. Can't you understand that? I-I just want to t-take Kodiak back home." She stammered, her voice was not nearly as strong as Nyir's, but she tried to get her point across anyways. "Everyone h-here has their passion and story for fighting, b-but I just want it all to stop." Rowan was almost pleading with Nyir, as if she could end a war none of them had control over.
Yuki felt the electricity through her veins. If they thought that would stop her, indeed they were wrong. She still carried Rowan on her back. It took her just a little more effort than it normally would. “I’m no hypocrite.” ,she wispered. She was losing her voice. “I’ve seen the cruelty from all of you. Face it Nyir, you didn’t join President Harris because you believed what she believed, you joined to get revenge. You care more about getting back at the rebels for killing your precious husband than you do about Kodiak or anything else. You’re just like me.”
"Then I ask you the same question Rowan asked her," He said, firing off another shot aimed towards her; his bullets were taking longer to reload themselves. He didn't figure it would be strong enough to take her down with just one bullet. "What about me?" He glowered at her. If only they'd listen, everything would be so much easier. "Kodiak can join you after the battle. I suggest you two get out of here while you have the time."
“I suggest you put that gun down.”, Yuki growled. Her bones were starting to ache from all the energy circuiting through them, though she could still take Armand down with little effort… with or without the gun. “You may say you’re a doctor, but don’t forget you’re the one who shot Rowan down. Don’t pretend it’s our fault.”
Rowan groaned in pain, her eyes fluttering shut. "Yuki, drop me." She commanded. "Drop me and get out of here. You can break me out if you have to, but I'm not strong enough to help you." She let her grip slacken, knowing Yuki wouldn't be able to hold dead weight for long. Not with high voltage electricity coursing through her veins.
“Only if you promise to let me rescue you.” Yuki didn’t want to let go of Rowan. She didn’t have a choice.
Armand raised his gun again. "You have one more. Listen." he was well aware of what he had done. "Everything I've done is for the better. You need to give me more time to realise it, Yuki." His voice wasn't angry. It was tired, almost a plea. He was tired of all of this. They just had to let him help.
“You’re really going to shoot me again!?” Yuki found it hard to listen to Armand while he was still aiming the gun at her. “You don’t realize how hard it is to trust you when my friends are suffering and instead of helping, you just hurt them!” She looked over at Rowan, who had a pained look on her face, and then Kodiak who had red puffy eyes from crying. “You’re going to have to prove worthy of my trust.”
(Gotta like that comeback you did 4 replies ago, @MidnightWarrior13 , that was a really cool post. You guys are all awesome!)
(Thanks! You’re awesome too! Lol that actually sounds like something I would say.)
(Such sass! >w< lol thanks!)
Armand thought about doing her in. One more, and she would be done. But after two he thought she remarkable enough, still gripping on to Rowan. She didn't listen well, but damned if she wasn't passionate. He stiffened, before dropping the gun and marching to her. He would be face to face with the woman, and he'd whisper for just them to hear, "You want proof-and revenge," He added, "Come to the gladiator battle tomorrow. You'll see just how much I'll sacrifice for my friends." He pulled at the fabric of Rowan's shirt, pulling Yuki's arm to release her grasp. "If you want to break back in to watch, fine. But inmates get a free show." he sighed. "You're going to get yourself killed, Yuki."
“And if you hurt my friends, you’re going to get yourself killed.”, Yuki added with a hint of warning in her tone. She put her hands in fists. “I want to trust you. You and I aren’t much different. Though, I’m not a fool. Neither you or Nyir are on our side.”, Yuki wispered.
"You could kill me right now, Yuki. But you aren't. And I'm risking my life on that, not to lie to you. Would be unwise. And that I am not." It took visible effort for him to lift Rowan, but he managed. He felt so small compared to the woman; it didn't help with his old injuries, but he was no wuss. He just felt a little less competent, was all. He scolded her with his eyes for being so silly. He'd admit he was a little quick to fire, but he really didn't want her to get shot with a real bullet.
Rowan allowed herself to be transfered to Armand without a fight. She could feel he was less stable than Yuki, having to square his feet more to support her weight. She shrunk away from his shameful gaze. Only whispering "Sorry." before hiding her face into his shoulder.
“Should I trust you?”, Yuki asked Armand. She looked over at Rowan. Please don’t die, Rowan. You never deserved any of this.
He found himself patting Rowan's back for a moment. "I don't want to die, Yuki." his voice was empty of any venom it carried before. He turned with Rowan, readying to return to the group; rather, back to his office. "I've never killed anyone, and that's a true difference that sets our minds apart." He looked at Yuki, waiting.
“Maybe so. I’d be lying if I told you I never killed anyone, but I’d also be lying if I told you I don’t have a heart.” Yuki knew she still had a heart. She knew because it was permanently broken after she had nobody left for her to love. Her family was gone. Her heart, however, was somewhere else. It was in the future when the war would be over. “I care about my friends. Make sure they are safe.”
Rowan kept her face hidden in Armand's shoulder, unwilling to acknowledge that she was being brought away from Yuki and Kodiak. Instead she stayed relatively still. Armand wasn't angry. At least not as much as she thought he was after shooting her. She only knew this because of the comforting pats she received while he held her. It wasn't much, but it made Rowan feel safe and right now, that was more than she could've asked for.
