“Right!”, Yuki said. She was glad Rowan trusted her to look after her. If she had a friend she wouldn’t be completely dead inside, would she?
“Right!”, Yuki said. She was glad Rowan trusted her to look after her. If she had a friend she wouldn’t be completely dead inside, would she?
"You're sure you don't want to go with Petree? Or look for Kodiak?" Rowan asked, feeling guilty about keeping Yuki to herself when Kodiak probably needed her more.
“I can look for Kodiak while protecting you. I heard he will be in a gladiator battle. I’ll find some way to help him. As for Petree, she escaped and is fine. Look, I have nowhere to go. I’m a monster that doesn’t belong anywhere.”, Yuki said.
"A gladiator battle?!" Rowan's face fell in horror. She bit her lip, deeply worried for Kodiak. "You're not a monster, Yuki." Rowan said firmly. "You're one of my closest friends. A monster is someone who's lost all their morals and doesn't care for anyone but themselves like President Harris. And you can't argue because you're taking care of me right now with your own free will." Rowan crossed her arms, almost daring Yuki to challenge her.
“I live to kill President Harris. I live to kill. Killing President Harris is the only reason I haven’t committed sucicide. Part of the reason that I’m still here is to find a way to kill her. I’m glad you think of me as a friend, though.”, Yuki replied. Her tone was unreadable and she didn’t even know what she was feeling.
"Well before this war ends, I'm going to find you a reason to live. A good one too." Rowan decided giving Yuki a tired smile. "And of course you're my friend. Come on, Yuki. It's fate or destiny or whatever you want to call it."
“Find me a reason to live?”, Yuki echoed. “You mean besides killing President Harris?”
"Mhm." She hummed in response, looking almost proud despite the situation they were both in. "I'll find you something or someone that will give you purpose. I, for example, live because puppies exist." Rowan jested, giving Yuki a playful nudge.
“Puppies are cute, but they aren’t exactly a reason to live for me. I guess we could try to find something.”, Yuki said. “I can’t exactly say that I like living solely for another’s death.”
"I wouldn't imagine that it's fun. Seriously, just trust me, okay? I can do this." Rowan opened her arms for a hug, looking at Yuki expectantly.
Yuki hugged Rowan. It was strange. She had never hugged anyone since the death of her parents. She sort of liked the hug.
(AWWW their friendship is so perfect)
"Haven't hugged anyone in awhile, huh?" Rowan commented, feeling how stiff Yuki was. "I'll fix that too." She stated, pulling away from Yuki.
“Haven’t hugged anyone since my parents’ deaths.”, Yuki said. “Why do you care so much about me?”
"Cause we're friends." Rowan emphasized the word, dragging it out slowly. "Friends care about each other."
“Wow! Awesome!”, Yuki said.
"I am pretty awesome." Rowan smirked. She traced the thin white scars left on her leg from her wound. The warm feeling from the injection was still prominent. It felt weird. Both comforting and threatening at the same time. "Is it getting hot in here?" Rowan asked, wiping sweat of her forehead.
“No, I’m fine. Are you feeling okay?”, Yuki asked.
"Yeah, of course, Yuki." Rowan smiled, trying not to worry her friend. Her palms were sweaty now. She was starting to get uncomfortable, growing hot in her clothing. "Could you grab me a water?" She asked quickly, her breathing becoming increasingly shallow.
“You’re not okay! You stay here. I’ll get you some water. Do you need Dr. Armand?”, Yuki said.
"I'm fine. Probably just dehydrated. Get me the water, Yuki." Rowan snapped through gritted teeth. She felt feverish now, her face was growing red and sweat poured down her face. Rowan leaned back against the wall, desperate for something cool against her hot skin and the bed sheets sticking to her.
Yuki ran to get water. She grabbed an ice cold water from Dr. Armand’s office. She brought the water back to Rowan. “What else can I do!?”, she asked. “Please don’t die.”, she added.
Without a word Rowan snatched the water from Yuki with shaky hands. She chugged it, enjoying the cold relief it gave her, but it only lasted a few seconds. "G-Get more. Fast as possible." She begged, shoving the glass back at Yuki. Her entire body was starting to shake now and she felt weak, her limbs like jello.
“I’m getting the doctor! You’re not fine!”, Yuki yelled. “I’ll get some more water for you too.” Yuki ran out of the room.
Rowan panted, her skin felt like it was boiling. It hurt. She closed her eyes, desperate for relief of any kind.
