Tanrial rolled her eyes as she entered but didn’t say anything as she started to bandage Bernon’s shoulder.
Tanrial rolled her eyes as she entered but didn’t say anything as she started to bandage Bernon’s shoulder.
Bernon sighed and closed his eyes, trying to relax. "Thanks, Tanrial. I'm sorry I got hurt, that was stupid. I wasn't much help back there, was I? All I did was slow you down and get in the way."
(Gotta go now, seeya tomorrow!)
“It wasn’t your fault, you’ve only just learnt about magic so it’s understandable. You’ll get better at it.”
(See ya tomorrow!)
"I hope you're right." Bernon's voice trailed off. "I think I'm gonna go back to sleep now….wake me up if anything happens, okay….?" And with that, he was out.
Mike looked at him, stowing the vial of tainted blood in an inner pocket. "He's too nice. How'd he even survive this long, that's what I wanna know."
Tanrial didn’t respond to Mike at first but soon said, “I’ve seen many people like him over the centuries,” She picked up the things she’d brought, “They have a different way of surviving, unlike us fighters they… I dunno…” She walked out the room.
(Sorry I'm late! I was out most of the afternoon)
Mike slowly followed, thinking. "Some people just seem to have a knack for making friends. I was never one of those people. Trust isn't a luxury I have access to in my life."
Tanrial placed the bowl of dirty water in the sink and poored it down the drain, “Yeah, I know how you feel there.”
"You said you've been alive for centuries? Did I mishear you there?"
She shook her head, “I’m over 400…” She said quietly, returning the viles of magical liquid to their place.”
"So….you've seen what the world was like before it went to scraps and handrails. You've lived a normal life….whatever that was for your people."
(brb, having supper)
“Yes, I saw the world before… all this. Small parts of it anyway but I’ve never lived a normal life. Compared to my brothers and sisters, anyway. If I did I wouldn’t be here,” She gestured to the cabin and the field outside, “I would be living in luxury, with everything I could ever want, just like them….” She closed the doors of the cupboard and sat down.
(Okie dokie)
Mike studied her for a few long moments, then looked down at his clasped, weathered hands. "So if you go with us, you're not going to miss anything here, are you? You might even like it better."
She nodded her agreement, “I’m only here because I wanted to keep and eye n the area…. make sure the village was safe…”
(JEEZ finally the application errors stop! Sorry about that, everything glitched and I couldn't get on until just now)
"Well, it looks like they're doing pretty good on their own. They seemed fighting fit enough to almost kill all three of us. And that poison they use has got to be effective for keeping magic users out of their hair."
(Might not be on at all today, sorry. We'll see)
(So it wasn’t just me getting the errors!! And that’s all good)
Tanrial shrugged with one shoulder, “True. I guess one part of me wanted to stay but I can’t…. definitely not now at least.”
(I have a little bit of time now yay)
Mike hesitated before he said it. "Well….I think you'll be good to have along. You seem to know how to take care of yourself, and you can pull your own weight. I normally travel alone, but if I had to pick somebody to team up with, you might be on the list. Bernon, not so much. Too gregarious and talkative."
Tanrial smirked a little, “He’s a nice guy, you’ll get used to it,” She stopped for a moment, as if re-thinking what she was about to say, “Bernon said when you first met, you killed a bunch of bandits, whatever they were, with your bare hands or something…” She looked at him, “How?”
Something in his expression changed, became more detached. He shrugged slightly. "It wasn't magic, if that's what you're asking." He paused. "Most people, whether they mean to or not, put limiters on themselves. They constantly hold back. And I don't." His voice was hard and quiet. "My grandfather taught me how to fight. He never lost, not even when he was an old man. He showed me that a human's greatest strength is their will to survive, and if you channel it right? Nothing can stop you."
Tanrial fiddled with a dagger she found and swung her legs over the arm of her chair, “He sounds like a wise man. Once you learn to survive you can do anything…”
Mike nodded. "His name was Luke. He was pretty much the only father I ever had. I learned a lot from him." He glanced over sidelong. "I gather your dad's kind of a deadbeat….?"
She nodded “It’s all about survival, where I’m from. A constant battle between the offspring of the king. Whoever is the strongest, takes the throne. With me being the youngest, I was never liked by him ’To weak’ he always said,” She paused for a moment, thinking, “I figured the best thing for me, and to please him was to leave…. clearly he wants me back so he can kill me himself.”
"Think so?…." Mike got up to get a drink. "All the more reason to clear out then, I guess. No point wasting your time with folks who don't appreciate you."
(I gotta go now and I probably won't be back on until tomorrow, seeya! ^^)
“Yeah, I guess you’re right.”
(See ya tomorrow!)
