(Aha, yeah…. should we continue with Bernon’s training?)
(Sure ^^)
Bernon looked at his imaginary hand, and tried to picture it filled with elemental energy. It took a minute, but suddenly there was a fizzle of blue and white light, and he was holding a ball of electrified water that wobbled and spun wildly. Bernon hesitated, mentally gripping the power as firmly as he could, then gently cracked open his eyes.
(idk if something dramatic and violent should happen, is there a high probability of that would you say?)
(It’s possible it could happen, he could lose control and shoot at Tanrial maybe? Idk, you do what feels right)
“Good, that’s good,” She smiled, “Now, try to steady it. Focus on it staying still, like so.” Tanrial mimicked his action with the water, only without the electricity and soon a ball of water was floating above her palm, quite still and only bobbing up and down occasionally.
"I'll try…." Bernon stared at the thrashing glob of power in his hand, still unsure if he was dreaming. Focus, he told himself, and attempted to make the lightning go away so he could calm the water. Unfortunately, the lightning slipped through his fingers like a bar of soap and shot straight up into the sky, causing a deafening roll of thunder to erupt overhead.
Bernon flinched. "Oops. Sorry."
“It’s fine, try to imagine the lightning disappearing and seeing only the water.” Tanrial lowered her magic but made sure to shield the house in case Bernon lost control of the lightning again.
"Yes ma'am." He stared hard at the water, willing it so settle. It did, but reluctantly, and only a little. "Arg, I keep almost dropping it. The second I think I've got it, it spazzes out again."
“Don’t force it, if you get mad it will as well, calm yourself. Once your calm, it will follow.”
Bernon sighed. "Okay. Deep breaths." He quieted his thoughts and worked on smoothing the angry water into a perfect orb. Gradually, he began to succeed.
"Hey, it's working!" he said excitedly, then quickly shut up as the water wobbled again.
Tanrial smirked, “Told you. Now, I want you to image some animal or plant or something and try to turn the orb into it. Once you’ve done that, you can have a break, but only after.”
"A shape, huh? Lesse….I think I'll do a mouse." He carefully shaped the water with his free hand, trying to get it looking vaguely like a small rodent. The water swirled obstinately, losing its shape almost as soon as Bernon relaxed his will. But he didn't give up, his eyes narrowed in determination as he drew out the thin tail and polished off the round back. Almost thirty minutes later, he proudly held up his creation. It was a bit lumpy and drippy, but definitely looked like a mouse. "There! Man, that was really hard!"
“Wait till we get onto flying and shifting. You can take a break now,” Tanrial laid back on her elbows, “You know, you don’t have to use your other hand to make shapes, next time, just try picturing it in your mind. See if that’s easier for you.”
"Oh. Okay." Bernon let the water evaporate and flopped onto the grass. "Whew. This is fun. I can already see a ton of uses for this, as soon as I get a little better."
(I have to go to bed now, see ya tomorrow! ^^)
“Hm, yeah. It’s one of the best things for me personally,” She sighed, “I just wish others would see it as a gift more then a curse or something to be feared.”
(Byeeeee, see ya tomorrow!)
"It's too bad that people still find magic scary. Especially now that it's cropping up all over the place. I've heard that some groups make money now by hunting down magical creatures and killing or selling them." Bernon shook his head in disgust. "Typical human thing to do."
(I have to go for the evening and I won't be back until tomorrow, sorry!)
“Yeah…” Tanrial looked up at the sky, “Peace is clearly to much to ask for at the moment.”
(Okie dokie, see ya tomorrow!)
Bernon lay in silence for a while, staring at the clouds. "Well……all things considered, this area seems pretty nice. I guess the extremely territorial Evyns must keep other potential threats at bay. So in that sense, they're doing everyone else a favor."
Tanrial stood up and shrugged, “Yeah, come on. Let’s see what shift you get and those wings.” She grinned.
"Okay!" Bernon hauled himself to his feet. "How do I start?"
“Well, Wings or normal shift?” She crossed her arms.
"Uh….wings first, I guess."
“Great! Now, you need to go back to that well of power and think about your wings. You’ll feel an uncomfortable feeling between your shoulder blades and it might hurt a little at first but after a few tries it won’t. Watch.” She turned her back and forced her wings to form slowly, so Bernon could get a feel of what would happen.
"Wow, that's cool. Here goes." Bernon closed his eyes and concentrated.
(brb, back in a few minutes)
Tanrial turned back towards Bernon and watched him.
He visualized a pair of wings, picturing them on his back around the shoulder area. He wasn't sure what color they would be…maybe brown, the same as his hair and eyes? That would do for now. He willed the wings to solidify, and his back began to tingle. It did feel odd, and vaguely unpleasant, like someone was pulling at his skin. But he kept trying, until the discomfort was almost too much to bear. "Is it working? Do you see anything?"
