Kenzie looked at Hunter with a nervous smile and shrugged.
"Just pre-wedding nerves, I think. That and the fact that my dad still hasn't shown up," she sighed. "I hope everything's okay…"
Kenzie looked at Hunter with a nervous smile and shrugged.
"Just pre-wedding nerves, I think. That and the fact that my dad still hasn't shown up," she sighed. "I hope everything's okay…"
Hunter hugged her from the side.
"He'll be here soon," he said quietly. "I don't think he'll ever dream about missing his girl's day."
(I don't know if I should have Hunter invite his father for the wedding…)
(I mean… Kenzie would probably say he should.)
"Right. Of course not," Kenzie sighed, leaning into Hunter's side.
As soon as she had finished speaking, Johb Baker burst through the doors, panting. He held a small box in one hand as he made his way over to the wedding party.
"I'm so sorry, Sunshine. I got stuck in traffic," he apologized, shaking his head at himself. He gave his daughter an apologetic smile and handed her the box. "This was your mom's. I gave it to her right before you were born."
Kenzie gingerly took the box and opened it. Inside lay a delicate silver chain, intertwined with another.
"Daddy… This is beautiful…" she looked up as she whispered. "Thank you."
(Well, we'll see now, won't we? :D)
Hunter looked away, an unknown emotion bubbling in his chest that he tried to ignore.
"You okay, Hunt?" Leo whispered to Hunter, leaning closer. Hunter nodded.
"Yeah," he replied quietly. "It's weird, honestly. It's our wedding day, and neither of our mothers is present. I don't know how to feel about that…"
Leo squeezed his best friend's shoulder.
"She'll be proud," he said seriously. "She wouldn't want you getting upset on a big day, you know."
Hunter shrugged.
"Well, at least there's your mom," he grinned cheekily. Leo nodded with a grin of his own.
"When she found out you got engaged, she was ecstatic. I swear, she even cried."
"That's Ms. Carter for you," Hunter joked. "Anyway, I should pay attention to Kenzie now."
Kenzie hugged her dad, then suddenly realized what Hunter had only a few moments ago. Her breath caught in her throat and she bit the inside of her cheek. She trembled a bit and excused herself, starting toward the room where she and her bridesmaids would be getting ready the next day.
When Kenzie moved away, Hunter realized, by the expression on her face, that she had heard what he said. Cursing himself, he excused himself from Leo's presence and ran towards Kenzie, grabbing her by the arm to stop her.
Kenzie jumped a bit in surprise. She bit her lip and looked away from him.
"What, Hunter?" she whispered.
“I know you’re upset,” he murmured, pulling her close. “And it’s only a given. I’m upset, too. But I don’t think either of them would want us to be miserable on a happy day.”
Kenzie sighed shakily and leaned into Hunter.
"I just wish she could be here. She would have been so excited, and she would love you," she murmured.
Hunter pressed a kiss against her head.
“I wish she were here, too,” he smiled. “Our mothers would’ve gotten close.”
"Best friends," Kenzie whispered with a smile. She looked up at Hunter and wrapped her arms around him. "Thank you."
Hunter inhaled deeply.
“We should get back,” he murmured. “Everyone might freak out if the stars of the show disappear.”
"Yeah, I guess we should…" Kenzie sighed. She released him and waited for him to lead the way back.
When they joined their friends again, Leo gave him a questioning look, which Hunter replied with a shake of his head.
(Okay, now here’s the thing. I really don’t know how western wedding works. No idea at all.)
(Oh, lol. Okay, I might be able to find some videos if you want to watch them, but I'll do my best to explain.
Basically, the wedding party consists of the bride and groom, the maid of honor and the best man, and bridesmaids – the number of which varies from wedding to wedding. The groom will be standing at end of the aisle, waiting for his bride. The pastor will be there with him, standing behind him. Music will begin to play, and the bridesmaids will walk down the aisle with the groomsmen they're paired with. Once they've gone, the maid of honor and best man will walk down together. Then come the flower girls, probably to a different song, and the ring bearers. Finally, the song changes one last time as the bride walks down the aisle with her father. The father will give the bride away –basically meaning that he gives her to her husband – and the pastor will begin the speech thing. Then the vows are exchanged, rings put on each other's fingers, "May I present tobyou, for the first time, Mr. and Mrs. McArthur. You may kiss the bride."
If that doesn't help, I'd just look it up. Lol.)
"Is everyone ready to go?" Kenzie asked the group, ignoring the concerned looks they were giving her.
When they all said yes, the wedding coordinator, Kenzie's cousin, led them into the room where the ceremony would be held. It wasn't decorated yet, not completely, but it would be finished on time by tomorrow. White chairs sat in rows facing the front of the room, and a trestle stood at thereby of the aisle. In just over 24 hours, McKenzie and Hunter would be standing there…
(Thank you! It’s much clearer now. That’s not how our weddings work. 😂)
“This is killing me,” Hunter muttered. “One more day to go…”
“Have some patience, dude,” Leo rolled his eyes.
(I didn't think so. Lol. Oh, and afterwards, there's the reception. Food is served and eaten, then the bride and groom cut the cake together and feed each other a small piece – sometimes getting cake to the face because their spouse thinks it's funny. Then tgeres the dances, and dancing just for fun. The bride and groom are either shown off or slip away while everyone is preoccupied with dancing. And then the honeymoon, blah blah blah.)
"Okay, so Hunter, you'll walk up to the trellis and wait there with Reverend Joseph," the coordinator directed. "So let's go! Cue the music, and get walking!"
(Thanks!
I also thought I replied to this…)
(Who's Reverend Joseph? :P)
Hunter obliged, walking up to the trellis with the music and waiting.
(Oof, lol. He's just the officiate (pastor) for the wedding. I just came up with done random name.
I'll skip to the rehearsal dinner because this could take a while…)
Once Blaine (this isn't the character I meant to use, but I can't remember which one it was), the coordinator, was satisfied that everything would go smoothly tomorrow, she loudly clapped her hands to gather everyone to her.
"Great job, guys. That last run through was perfect. Just remember your timing and everything will go beautifully!" she declared. Turning to the bride- and groom-to-be, she grinned. "Good luck, you two. This is going to be beautiful."
Hunter nodded with a smile on his face.
"Thank you, Blaine," he said politely. "You've helped us a lot. Thank you for your hard work."
"No problem. Now you take care of my cuz, okay?" Blaine said with a wink as she shooed everyone outside.
Kenzie smiled dreamily. Under twenty-four hours to go and she'd finally be married to the man she loved. She looked up at him and gently squeezed his hand.
"Will do," Hunter said after her. "She's in good hands!"
Grinning and squeezing Kenzie's hand back, Hunter dipped to press a light kiss on her cheek.
"In a few hours, you'll officially be McKenzie McArthur," he teased.
"Oh, stop it," Kenzie said, rolling her eyes with a light blush. She smiled at a sudden realization. "I'll be Mc-squared. I'm the scientific definition of energy!"
Hunter grinned.
"You are," he agreed. "You give me so much energy."
