"Do I know you?" A voice from behind him said. Stormpaw whipped around. He could see the shape of another cat in the shadows. He could somehow tell without thinking that this cat was completely dead, and had been for probably a while, though he wasn't quite sure how he knew. The cat's eyes were a bright purple, brighter than those of Stormpaw's mother and sister, and its voice was wheezy and breathy like it had been struck across the throat mere moments ago.
Taking a careful step back, Stormpaw lowered his head slightly, though his eyes were still focused on the dark shape that seemed to be approaching… or was it staying still? in the dim lighting he couldn't tell. There was some light near his paws, revealing some rotting and dried brown leaves, coming from small little bioluminescent mushrooms clinging to the side of a rotting oak.
Stormpaw was sure that if someone were to hit the log hard enough, it'd burst into a pile of splinters.
"…Do I know you?" Stormpaw hissed, though a slight tremble in his voice betrayed his fear and he silently berated himself for that.
He didn't know this cat and yet something told him that he shouldn't trust him either.
i'm sorry this took ages to get out but- Writer's Block and distractions are fun <33 /sar //
this honestly didn't further anything along but- i couldn't think of anything smh //
The cat chuckled. It sounded almost painful with whatever was up with his throat. "No- heh- I'm sure you do not."
The cat stepped forward a little, enough for Stormpaw to see the grey fur and unsheathed claws of the cats paws. Then it flopped sideways, laying its head on the ground and gazing at the brown-furred apprentice through narrowed, smiling eyes. It's tail flicked with amusement.
"How's the thing with StarClan going? They annoying you yet?" The cat's wheezy voice was harsh on the ears and almost painful to listen to.
Stormpaw stared at this odd tom, scars littered his pelt and his purple eyes, they basically glowed… and his voice was scratchy and dry like he hadn't had a sip of fresh water in moons, the sound was somewhat hard on his ears which Stormpaw pinned back to try and block out the toms voice.
"Yeah well- wait-" The brown tabby apprentice looked down at the tom who was… now laying on his side looking up at him. "How- how do you…" The mysterious toms smirk grew and the look sent a chill down Stormpaw's spine, making the fur on the back of his neck rise again.
take this and run ig //
ideas are running out smh //
SPRING WRITES A SHORT REPLY! NOT CLICKBAIT!!! /j //
The cat chuckled again. "I will take that as a yes." He rolled over and rubbed his back on the ground for a bit before standing and shaking himself. "Follow me, I think you'll find us the answer to your issue."
As the two walked, Stormpaw got a better look at the tom. He was a silver-grey tabby, not too much taller than Stormpaw himself. His tail was thin and kinked like it had been broken in the past and healed badly.
They arrived at a small hollow in the forest, Stormpaw could see several cats scattered around, all making his fur stand on end. Some cats were slinking in nervously from the other side of the clearing, these cats were different. Stormpaw could tell they were alive. Some of the earliest arrivers walked up to a cat already in the clearing and the pair or small group would leave in another direction.
"Hey, Rat!" The grey tom called. A gruff, messy cat on the other side of the hollow looked up. "I got that one! The- uh- StarClan one!" He bounced down into the clearing to run to the bedraggled tom, leaving Stormpaw alone at the edge of the clearing.
(I am loving this, but at the same time I'm like 'please don't turn bad Stormy')
(don't worry, we have a plan :))

Stormpaw followed the mysterious tom down the dark, rough path. The path that Stormpaw walked beside his guide was lined with thick leafed bushes that had thorns the size of badger claws, and the skinny pine trees that towered overhead. The branches from all the surrounding trees were naked and bare, leafless as they tangled together and above. Not letting a single speck of light or the sight of stars through the thick canopy of trees.
The WindClan tabby looked around anxiously, his ears pinned back slightly. With every nervous step he took, Stormpaw felt as if there were cats watching him with hungry eyes from every angle, surveying his every move. It made him feel vulnerable and like prey in the eyes of these invisible warriors. The anxiety made the fur on the back of his neck bristle.
The silver-grey tabby, his guide, seemed relaxed and not on edge like a frightened rabbit.
'well… this is his home, of course, he's comfortable here…'
After a few more pawsteps, and after Stormpaw freed his paw from a tangled vine, he and his mysterious guide arrived at a rather busy clearing.
These cats he saw in front of him looked so similar to the StarClan cats he would see everywhere but… something in the back of his mind told him that these dead warriors weren't the same as the starry cats he would see daily. Something also told him that some of these cats that walked in small groups were also alive.
Stormpaw watched with curious eyes as a pair of tabbies walked beside each other. One looked alive while the other was battle-scarred and translucent, with glowing bright blue eyes.
The two tabbies seemed to be in a deep, heated discussion as they padded past a huge, deformed tree and down a shadowy path. The tree they passed looked like it was twisting in on itself and the branches that were free reached out and the smaller branches on the ends looked like skinny claws.
Stormpaw couldn't help but let out a nervous gulp, wherever he was, it was sending him mixed and scary signals.
'what's there to even be nervous about?' he thought, twitching his tabby-striped tail. 'i'm dreaming, aren't I? If I want, I could just wake up. Or dream of a vicious badger that'll protect me from these cats.' he smirked , chucking slightly at his thought.
Stormpaw studied his surroundings, in a far corner there was a grey, rotting log on its side, a cluster of bright red and glowing mushrooms scaled the side of it. Near the end of the log there was a noticeably large gash. It looks like a good place to hide… if you were the size of a kit that is.
The WindClan tabby went to go look at something else, but movement near the log made him turn his head back. Narrowing his dark blue eyes, Stormpaw looked closely and almost jumped out of his fur when a small head popped out of the gash in the side of the log. For a moment, Stormpaw thought he was looking at a squirrel as whatever he was looking at has rather round ears, but after a second, his eyes widened in shock as he realized what he was actually looking at.
'A kit!'
Stormpaw's jaw flew opened a gap as he watched the moving object, the kit, scramble out of the log and land clumsily on its small paws. It shook out its short fur, free of dust and spider webs, and blinked its wide pale blue eyes before a much larger shape appeared behind the small kit.
The new cat was large, having a thick, white mane of fur around their neck and a muscular build with large paws and narrowed amber eyes. Though, they were translucent as well…
Only one question filled his mind: 'is… is that a lion?'
In a swift movement, the large cat grabbed the kit by its scruff and turned, disappearing behind some bushes down another shadowy path.
Stormpaw turned towards his guide, ready to ask many questions but his mysterious guide wasn't beside him anymore. Stormpaw looked around frantically, where in the name of StarClan was he? Was he just abandoned at the edge of the hollow? He didn't even know anyone here!
After a few slightly panicked seconds of looking around, Stormpaw finally noticed the silver-grey tabby, his guide, bounding over towards a scrawny grey-brown tom who was laying down in the shadows seemingly sleeping… he also looked dirty and not well groomed.
What confused him, even more, was the fact that he was called the "StarClan one."
'I have a name you know.' Stormpaw thought bitterly as he glared at his guide.

Ratclaw gnawed on thick animal bone, what animal was it from? He couldn't tell nor did he care. It could be from another cat and he couldn't care. Ratclaw lashed his tail, which was thin and balding, Ratclaw quickly lashed it away and behind him. He didn't need to be judged about it like he already was. 'those stupid, minnow-hearted twins.' he growled and he continued to gnaw on the bone. After a few moments of chewing, Ratclaw spat it out and batted it away, watching it roll as he shook his head and licked his teeth.
The dirty grey-brown huffed, shifting so that he could be laying down more comfortably on the hard ground, the dead grass underneath him uncomfortable and poked at his stomach but he was much too lazy to find another spot to laze around in, he was to tired to get up anyway.
After closing his eyes, smelling cats passing by, and hearing their annoying conversations about training and such, a firmilar voice called out to him. Ratclaw opened one up before looking up, confused, before he realized who it was. He didn't get a chance to speak as the other tom began to bound over, going on about how he got the "StarClan one!"
Ratclaw's eyes widened as he peered over the approaching silver-grey tabby's shoulder to see none other than the same small-looking brown tabby tom he had met with a few moons ago.
The small tabby was just standing around at the edge of the hollow, looking around frantically. Looking all vulnerable and frightened. Ratclaw smirked at the sight, before looking up at his mate.
'oh… This'll be fun.'
this would've been out yesterday but things came up- I'M SORRY ABOUT THIS AGAIN- I didn't mean for it to take a week for me to get a single reply out 😭😭😭 //
The grey tabby scrambled back up the wall of the hollow towards the young living tom he brought with him through the forest. Three ghostly cats moved past, mewing in hushed tones, their heads held close together. They seemed softer than the other ghosts in this place, less scarred, their expressions kinder, sweeter. The tom hissed at them, his hackles raising. They moved away very quickly, without a second glance.
He turned back to Stormpaw, smiling without his eyes. "I think you're gonna love i' here, no StarClan drivin' you nuts." He bounced on his paws. "You can come train with me and the others."
A pale sandy tom walked by, his pace slow and confident. "For Lionpelt's sake, Violetmask, do it properly." He said, his voice smooth and deep, with a stab of bitterness and spite. The grey tom, the one called Violetmask, stuck his tongue out at the pale figure once he was out of his eye line.
"Do you know anything about where you are?" Violetmask asked Stormpaw, tilting his head suddenly with a loud click.
Stormpaw stared after the pale sandy tom, watching as his mysterious guide stuck his tongue out at the other translucent figure. The brown WindClan tabby was incredibly confused and the look on his face betrayed it all. Before the young apprentice got a chance to speak, he flinched at the sound of the click of his guide, Violetmask's, neck and stepped back when the dirty tom who was hiding in the shadow earlier reveals himself, and Stormpaw instantly recognizes him.
"Ratclaw!" he gasps, his eyes widening as he stares at the disheveled tom. "You visited me in a dream once," he whispers at the grey-brown tom. Ratclaw smirks and twitches his shredded ears, "yeah. How are you doin' kit?" He watched a Ratclaw get shoved rather roughly by Violetmask, before huffing in response and shooting a slight glare in Violetmask's direction.
Stormpaw slowly turns back towards Violetmask, "um, where I am?" he echos the question, twitching his whiskers as he slowly looks around. After a few seconds, he blinks up at the two translucent dead cats.
"Am… am I not sleeping? am I not in a dream right now?"
(sorry for the short delay, Violet accidentally pressed reload rather than post reply)
Violetmask smirked. "You are sleepin', but the dream let's me do this." He said, slamming a paw into Stormpaw's shoulder and pushing him sideways. While Stormpaw righted himself, Violetmask pressed his head under Ratclaw's chin, positioning himself and sitting so Ratclaw's head was resting on his own.
He sat there, smiling widely, his mouth slightly open. "This," He paused for dramatic affect. He always paused there. "Is the Dark Forest." The grey tabby chirped, his excitement getting the better of his forced formal attitude. "Descriptive, I know." That remark earned him another glare from the pale sandy tom.
Ratclaw moved sideways so Violetmask wasn't leaning on him and the sickly-looking silver cat almost fell backwards.
"The others will be here soon. Then you can meet everyone! You definitely know some of them already!" He turned his head to look the other side of the clearing where some living cats had gathered and where standing awkwardly in a group. "Hey guys! Over here!" Violetmask called and the living cats started making their way over.
Violetmask turned to Stormpaw with a grin.
(sorry for the short delay, Violet accidentally pressed reload rather than post reply)
ay no worries lol //
'The Dark Forest?' he watched Violetmask almost fall backward as Ratclaw had pulled away, leaving Stormpaw to sit in thought for a moment. 'But I thought this place was just a kits tale that queens told their kits to scare them…'
He remembered being a small kit again in the milky warm nursery and sitting beside his mother, Springheart, as she told him about the Dark Forest. He remembered hearing her quiet laugh as she joked about the story of an insane ThunderClan she-cat who killed her mate and clanmates after watching her kits drown.
"It's nothing but horror stories to scare troublemaking kits, like you, into behaving. Don't believe a single word, Stormkit." her words echoed in his mind, but here he was… in The Dark Forest. Every hair on his pelt raised. He was standing in front of dead evil warriors…
Stormpaw's ears perked up at the sound of Violetmask speaking again, he listened carefully before watching the dead tom's grin grow even wider at his bewildered expression. "Some I know…?" he whispered, 'and who would that be? who would be stupid enough to hang around these crazy cats?' he thought quickly, scanning the approaching group of alive warriors.
His eyes widened in horror as he, in fact, recognized many of the cats in the group. Several of them had been at the gathering earlier that night. Many apprentices and grown cats were in the group, standing around awkwardly as he heard Violetmask let out a sinister chuckle before he broke out into a small cough.
'What in StarClan's name are they doing here?!' he took a step back as they got closer. 'some of these cats look like they're fresh out of the nursery! what are they doing here!?'
His eyes picked out the familiar thick-furred, black-and-ginger pelt of Adderpaw of ShadowClan. Stormpaw claws slid out as his eyes narrowed in a nasty glare. 'I knew there was something off about him…' Beside Adderpaw there was another ShadowClan cat. She was an older she-cat with pure white fur, that looks silvery and red in the poor lighting, and long fangs.
About rabbit hop or two away from the ShadowClan cats were two ThunderClan cats. One young warrior and what he assumed was a very young newly made apprentice, he looked like he had waddled out of the nursery. 'He could just be very small… but I should've already guessed that ThunderClan would be in such a place. I bet those fox-hearts, Rainfrost and Scorchfeather are here too!'
Two young-looking RiverClan warriors were in the front of the group, leading it almost. Both toms Stormpaw didn't recognize at all. Their pelts were sleek and their bellies looked plump. The slightly taller one had very dark fur but Stormpaw wasn't sure if it was brown or black, the RiverClan tom had a few small ginger patches that dotted his body, the most noticeable one was a patch on his flank. The other warrior looked the polar opposite of the warrior he stood beside. He had long fur the color of fresh snow and mitch matched eyes that reminded him a little of Swiftstar.
Finally in the back—
Stormpaw felt his blood run cold as he made eye contact with someone he would have never expected. His clanmate, his denmates, his friend… Stormpaw couldn't believe his eyes as he saw Berrytail, Crystalpaw and–
"Vix-Vixenpaw?" his voice cracked.
TD;DR - whoops-a-daisy, Storm casually sees his homie in cat hell <3 //
GUESS WHAT Y'ALL?!?!» IT'S MY BIRTHDAY!!! :DDDD 🎉🎉🎉🎉//
(GASP HAPPY BIRTHDAY SPRING! 🎂 🥳 🎉)
TYSMMM HEHEH <333 //
(Sorry for the late response! Happy birthday!!!!)
(I already said it in PMs but HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO SPRING!!!!! <3333)
Vixenpaw jerked back, his breath faltering. He didn't break eye contact with Stormpaw. He couldn't.
"V-Violetmask-" He stuttered. He couldn't think. His brain went blank. His breathing quickened. He felt like he was drowning.
"Oh, pigeon-feathers." He heard, but it was quiet, like it was far away. But it wasn't far away. It was Violetmask talking. A cat only a few tail lengths from the apprentice. A cat who promised he'd never tell anyone about this.
Stormpaw's vision went sideways and blurry, then blank. The last thing he saw was Vixenpaw, his friends, betrayed eyes, wide and blue as always.
He awoke, gasping for breath, in his nest, in the apprentice den. He heard before he could see. Vixenpaw was standing over his nest, his eyes wide and fearful, staring straight at Stormpaw. He could see the ginger apprentice's fur stand up on the back of his neck and his strained, stressed breathing making small sounds in the silence.
Shortly after, Crystalpaw looked up as well, his movement awaking Ashpaw who murmured questions to the white tom. Crystalpaw stayed silent and just watched the brown and ginger apprentices.
