Joanna sighed. "I hope so…" She followed him quickly.
Joanna sighed. "I hope so…" She followed him quickly.
Sam walked up to the stone wall and placed his hand on a small rock with strange looking markings on it. His magic pooled over the rock and soon a doorway appeared and Sam stepped through quickly.
Joanna followed, hoping no kind of security or anything caught her.
“Stay back, try not to be seen. We’ll take the back streets.” Sam said over his shoulder, flipping his jacket collar up.
Joanna walked behind Sam and let the shadows conceal her. She still walked with a confidence, however, in case anyone did happen to see her, she would look as if she belonged.
Sam shadows helped conceal Joanna more, his hand flicking carefully behind him as he directed them to her. He nodded to a few passing guards who luckily, didn’t see Joanna. He let out a breath once they were gone.
Joanna noticed the shadows flickering out of alignment to cover her. Noticing Sam's hands, she asked quietly, "Is that your magic?"
Sam nodded slowly, “Yes, it is. Try and relax, they can sense fear.” The last part was more of a joke but in some ways it was slightly true.
"Are you serious?" she hissed.
“Partly, but not really.” Sam replied, grinning of his shoulder.
"You…" She clicked her tongue, annoyed.
Sam chuckled, “Sorry, sorry.”
"You're not," she muttered, following him slightly impatiently.
“You’re right.” He replied walking down a back street to a nice looking house and unlocking the door.
The first second she could, Joanna pushed inside the house, ducking out of sight from anyone who could possibly have seen her. "Do you live alone?" she asked quickly.
Sam nodded, "I do, yes. Feel free to make yourself at home, there's a room just down that corridor there to your left were you can sleep." He said, walking into the main room and lighting a fire.
Joanna cautiously made her way to the room he described. She looked around. It looked simple enough. She walked over to the bed and ran her hand over the comforter. "Mel, I'm sorry for leaving you alone," she whispered her mental message aloud. "I promise I'll come back as soon as I can, once I learn magic from Sam. You'd like Sam, I think. He's nice, and he's letting me stay in his house, so I'm safe, okay? Love you." By the time she was done, there were tears in her eyes.
Sam hummed quietly to himself as the fire flared higher. His shadows slithered around him and he batted them away, “Stop… yes, yes I know. So what? I’m helping her out. I’ll push you into the fire…” he looked like he was muttering to himself but if you looked closely, there was a shadow figure in front of him, arms crossed.
Joanna wiped the tears trickling down her cheeks and marched out into the living room. "So, when does training start?" she asked.
Sam looked over his shoulder then back to the shadow, frowned at it then it disappeared, “Tomorrow morning, it’s too late to start now.”
"Says who?" Joanna demanded, crossing her arms just as the shadow had been.
“Says me. I’m teaching you, you’re staying in my house so I make the rules.” He replied.
"No one is the boss of me," Joanna said stubbornly.
“Then you can leave. Either follow my rules and teaching or go home.” Sam snapped.
Joanna scowled say him fiercely. If she left, there was no telling whether she'd make it out alive. Staying was purely a reason of survival. She paced off to her bedroom and sat on her bed, miserable.
