Alex breathed deeply and pushed herself forward until they were sprinting through the doorframe of a strange old house. She'd always seen it through the window of her room and wondered what was inside. Guess she was about to find out.
Alex breathed deeply and pushed herself forward until they were sprinting through the doorframe of a strange old house. She'd always seen it through the window of her room and wondered what was inside. Guess she was about to find out.
Aika slams the door shut after they had entered. "DAD!" She calls. Her dad appears a few seconds later and his eyes are filled with concern. "Demon." She breathes. He nods and grabs a few things before exiting the house. She looks at Alex. "Alright. Come sit down." She mutters, walking towards the couch.
Alex sat quietly on the couch, shivering lightly. "So this is your dad's house?" She asked, needing just a hint of normality to convince her that this wasn't some strange cruel dream.
"Yes. This is my fathers house." She says gently, sitting next to the other. "Like I said, he's an exorcist. He's used to warding off demons. His home is a safe place from them." She mutters, looking around. She gently pulls Alex to her side, trying her hardest to comfort the other.
Alex nodded slowly. "Okay. Cool. Exorcists are real. Demons are real. I'm not crazy- well not entirely crazy." She put her forehead in her hands and let out a loud shriek, and then looked up at Aiko again. She was ready to find out the truth about everything, and she would be safe while it all happened. "Tell me everything."
Aika takes a breath, gently holding the other. She was quite scared herself. Aika takes a breath. "Everything… I can tell you most, but some things are kept secret by our society." She mutters. "First things first. Not only am I a psychiatrist, but I am also the heir of a society that basically trains and develops young exorcist to defeat demons. My father and mother created this society. Some people can see demons, and these are usually the people we choose."
Alex nodded. She got that. "So, I'm one of those people who can see demons, right? Does that mean all the things I see are…real?"
(Gtg, dinner)
"Some of them, yes. Some might be actual hallucination, but I'm not sure." Aika answers. She sighs and leans back. The door opens and her father enters. "Welcome home Rosie. You okay?"
Alex sunk into the couch, unsure of how to react.
"Easy there…" She says gently. She looks at her dad and nods. "That dagger came in handy." She sigh happily and smiles. "Can we get some water?" She asks gently.
Alex nodded, still too shaken for words. Did that mean they were all real? The Shadowman, the triplets, even the fucking fairies she'd seen when her neds were adjusted? How? And how had no one noticed if they were?
Her father walks into the kitchen, then returns, holding two glasses of water.
Alex carefully took one. "Thanks. Uh, I didn't get your name?"
"Maximus. I'm her father." He motions towards Aika.
"Oh, uh, nice to meet you." She curled into Aika's side, trying to get comfortable in the face of this new authority figure.
Aika chuckles, "He doesn't bite… hard." He laughs a little at that. "Going back down to study. Call if you need anything." He says over his shoulder. She nods and smiles a little, putting a protective arm around Alex. "He's just a giant fuzzball." She mutters.
Alex managed a weak smile. "If you say so." She took a long sip of her water and snuggled even farther into Aika's side. Suddenly, she saw the Shadowman. She flinched, letting out a little yelp of terror.
"It's okay." She says softly, hugging the other, "Nothing can get in." She whispers.
"You can't see him?" The Shadowman walked closer, gesturing from her to the door with urgency. He'd always been an odd character, but never one that scared her. His appearance has simply been a surprise. Alex waved at him, but he kept pointing with agitation.
Aika shakes her head. "There have been a few that can see some that others can't."
Alex bit her lip. What if she was seeing real beings? Or did she have schizophrenia and see demons? Or did all people with schizophrenia see demons that no one else could? "Ok, well, uh, he's one of my more constant hallucinations, if he even is a hallucination, and he's like… a living silhouette. Like a super dark shadow that stays the same size all the time."
She nods, "That's been described before. They were more of the peaceful ones."
Alex smiled. "Yeah, he's always been one of the gentler ones," She sounded almost peaceful, even as the Shadowman jumped up and down and gestured frantically. She'd had enough practice ignoring her visions that she didn't even watch him from the corner of her eye. "I used to think he was my imaginary friend before I was… diagnosed. We used to play around all the time."
She nods and holds the other, sipping her water. She sighs softly, "Honestly, a lot of my dad's students were schizophrenic." She whispers, "Or at least diagnosed."
