I squint at Roger.
"Well, I don't want to put them in any more danger, either. Why can't you do it? You're already a cyborg," I suggest.
I squint at Roger.
"Well, I don't want to put them in any more danger, either. Why can't you do it? You're already a cyborg," I suggest.
Roger's eyes fall back on you, as he held back saying many things.
"That's the problem; I'm not a human, he wants humans to convert to robots."
Roger looks down places a hand on his forehead, shaking his head.
"I'm sorry. I'm sorry, I should have never brought any of you guys into this, I'm sorry."
Jean stands up and walks up to Roger, placing a hand on his shoulder.
I sigh and sit on the table. "No," I state in confidence. "Don't apologize to us. We're all fucking grown-ups who are very capable of making our own decisions, and we've decided to help you. You didn't bring us into anything. We brought you."
I point at him and smile. "Now, you can apologize after we succeed in saving your life again. You can bake us cookies as a thank you if it'll make you feel better."
Roger breathes shakily, relief gradually filling his face as he nods his head, his demeanor back to slight confidence.
"Okay, but we have to work together for this to work. Firs-"
Kaiholo stands up, interrupting Roger.
"To start, Jen is going to schedule an appointment with Dr. Rose. Anubis, you're going to send an e-mail from someone important to him telling him he's needed in another room immediately. While he's distracted, Jen will use this opportunity to find the keys. She'll promptly leave, hand me the keys inconspicuously, and I'll transport it to Roger. Roger will then make his way to the basement levels, along with Jen, of course. They'll start helping out the people there while Jean takes care of any security or employee that might get in the way. Once that's all achieved, Roger will make his grand debut and take with him several allies."
Everyone glances at Kaiholo as he stands triumphantly, as if he was the one who came up with the plan.
"Sounds good." Jean utters, turning to Anubis for a silent confirmation.
blah blah everyones getting ready wow! amazing.
After Anubis does his magic voodoo on my phone, he hands it to me with the ELife number already dialed. "Gracias," I mutter as the phone rings. A woman picks up in her customer service voice.
"Hi, you've reached ELife Inc., what can I do for you today?"
"Hello, I'd like to schedule an appointment with Dr. Rose as soon as possible," I say as I start to circle around the kitchen again.
The lady types something on her computer before responding.
"Dr. Rose has two openings today, one at 3pm and another at 7pm."
You start to notice Roger leaning in a little closer to you as he attempts to listen in on both ends of the conversation.
I eye Roger, then look at the time on the stove. It's still early, we should have enough time.
"The 3 p.m. time sounds good," I say cheerfully, but my expression is the opposite. To be honest, I am absolutely terrified. Anxiety starts to well up in me and I start to wonder how I'm going to pull this off/
"Excellent, see you then," She chimes, saying her goodbye and hanging up.
Roger straightens up upon noticing you eyeing him, trying to pretend like he wasn't leaning closer and closer to the phone. Anubis types up a few more things before sitting up straight.
"Alright, the fake email has been created, I'll send it five or ten minutes into your appointment, so try to make some kinda conversation that sounds like you're not waiting for it."
He looks over at you from the table as the sun starts to glow through the window behind him.
why is everyone suddenly
with me
I look at Roger, amused. Aren't you supposed to have super-hearing? I want to say, but Anubis interrupts my thoughts.
"Alright, the fake email has been created, I'll send it five or ten minutes into your appointment, so try to make some kinda conversation that sounds like you're not waiting for it," he explains, the sun illuminating his blonde hair. He almost looks normal.
I nod my head as I go through questions to ask Dr. Rose. "Where do you think he'd hide the key?"
"If she has mercy on us, he'll keep it somewhere easily accessible."
Kaiholo utters under his breath, but louder than he realized, which earned him a few curious glances from everyone. Roger chimes in.
"Dr. Rose visits the basement often so I doubt he'd keep it somewhere that's a hassle to get to every single time. Start with his desk, maybe a cabinet, and if you're getting desperate, check the trash can."
I scoff to Kai, "She better fucking be nice or I'll change the s- I'll fuck her up. Anyway, seeeeeemmmmms pretty legit very nice!" I clap my hands together. "So, what do we do now, just wait?"
mmmmmmm time skip to like 2:30 when y'all should start heading out
Roger has already reminded you several times to be safe and that you have the option to escape at any given moment, asking Anubis for a good 'abort mission' code word for you to say while talking to Dr. Rose that Anubis would hear over the earpiece. Kaiholo is talking with Jean but they were too far from where you were for you to hear them. However, from across the room, Kaiholo claps his hands loudly to get everyone's attention.
"Alright, ELife building is about a fifteen minute drive from here, so we should start making our way there. Jean, you'll be starting in the parking garage and hold down the fort there, and when Jen and Roger are finished, you'll make your way to the building next door to watch the outside. Anubis, you'll stay in the car, and I'll wander around wherever I have access until you tell me that you've got the key. You can find me on the third floor, and then wait in the elevator until Roger steps in, to which you two will go to the basement. Are we ready to leave?"
I nod and place my original earpiece back into my ear, covering it with my hair. After Anubis and Jean gather their stuff, we all head out of the house. I run lines over in my head in hopes that I'll convince Dr. Rose that I'm actually not about to steal his keys, unlike the fail with Roger. Although, I didn't mind that, to be honest.
I slip into the car, taking the middle seat. The gay couple take the front seats naturally, and the others sit on either side of me. I look down at my hands to notice they are glimmering with nervous sweat. this actually happpens and its kind of gross.
its ok the poor girl that went after me in driving today had to put her hands on a sweaty steering wheel i felt so bad for her
As the car grew silent, everyone stared out of their respective windows, but Kaiholo heard you fidgeting. Reaching his left hand over as his fingers trailed up your palm, wrapping around your hand before giving it a gentle squeeze of comfort. Within a few minutes, you all arrived near the building, but Jean parked a few blocks away. Everyone except Anubis exited the car, all going in separate directions, but you followed Kaiholo's path for a bit before he slows his walk to avoid the both of you walking in at the same time. Before you walked ahead of Kaiholo, he muttered to you.
"Remember, you're the only one here with freedom. You have nothing to worry about."
I inhale shakily and nod to Kai, despite him not being able to see me. "You're right, you're right. See you soon!" I ,,, what is the opposite of greet????
I enter the building and walk towards the front desk to greet a lady who seems rather nice. I wonder if she's an android. "Hi, I have an appointment with Dr. Rose?" I inquire.
"Three p.m.?"
I nod. "Yes." She types a few things into her computer before directing me to his office.
oh no
You sit in silence in Dr. Rose's office for a few short minutes, waiting for him to enter the room. As he does, he's half distracted by the file in his hand, as he flips through the pages intently. After passing you to reach his desk, he finally speaks.
"Alright, could you give me your name? I'm a little distracted today, I apologize."
i stab him on the spot
"No worries!" I chime, taking in his appearance. "I'm Lindsay."
Dr. Rose wasn't anything how I had imagined. His white hair was full and almost like cotton balls, growing down his face into a beard. The cheekbones protruded his skin in a skeleton way, but he had nearly no wrinkles. I wonder how much of his face was fake. I tried to discreetly wipe my sweaty hands on my pants. Anubis, please hurry.
"Okay, I sent the e-mail."
Anubis utters in your earpiece.
"Lindsay…alright, I see you scheduled an appointme-" Dr. Rose pauses, staring at his computer with growing frustration. After a second he shoots you a toothy grin.
"What exactly did you want to discuss with me?"
He chimes.
"Is he gone?"
Anubis's voice resonates in your earpiece yet again.
