"Here." She handed the guard the sheet and caught up with Elody.

(I thought you meant like pass out in the role play. You should stay, it will be fun.)

(Sure)

Elody shifted, terrified, in the stiflingly large crowd, next to Grace, as the Mayor of [insert town name] cleared her throat and unfolded a long piece of paper. Palms sweating, hands trembling, heart beating so fast she thought it would burst with fear and apprehension, she stood by her friend, waiting. Although thousands had assembled, it was dead silent in Trinity Square, the torturous silence overflowing with the agony of the people.

The mayor cleared her throat sharply, testing the microphone and eyeing the crowd with the eyes of a shark ready to strike, as if singling put her prey. The whole crowd shuddered as one, each person clutching a loved one, the fear that they could be taken away paralyzingly each and every one of them. Elody’s mother clutched her shoulders desperately, tears in her eyes, and even her baby brother was making sad puppy-dog eyes at her as she clung to her best friend’s hand.

The Mauor tapped her foot sharply on the stage, and the whole crowd when silent the groggy eyes from waking up so early suddenly becoming wide and awake. As you all know,”, she started in a coarse, harsh voice. “Every year…” She went on to explain the customs of eliminating the ‘non-usedul’ citizens to sustain a healthy city as a result of the massive swell in population numbers causing too much competition for resources. When it was finally time to read the names of the to-be executed, Elody was hyperventilating.

Mayor E. Keathe read name after name on the list with a sickening passion, ignoring the cries and screams of families around her. “Marissa Yonge, Anthony Laurens, Amanda Rosendorfer…” There’s no way I’ll be on that list., Elody thought, a turmoil of emotions building up inside her until she was almost overflowing with sheer terror for herself and her friend. I’ve made my self Useful this year, same with Grace! We volunteered, helped out on charities, did surveys. There’s no way we’re on that list., she kept telling herself over and over again as her mother’s nails dig into her shoulder and tears ran down her eyes. “Thomas and Richard Langley, Felicity Burka, Alex Lockheart, Elody Sutcliffe…” No. Nononono., her mother gasped and flung her arms around Elody, crying uncontrollably. No. Elody was numb, torn by a rush of tangled emotions. She gripped her mother tighter as she struggled to come to terms with her death warrant.

(how'd you use italics?)
As the mayor finished reading the list, Grace's brain couldn't keep up with what had just happened Elody had been called… but she hadn't. She should be relived, but ELODY? Not happening. Mayor E. Keathe asked "Now who wold like to PROVE themselves useful?" She asked every year and no one ever replied. If you Proved your self useful, you would be rewarded, or you would be dead. Without thinking she shouted "I will Prove myself!". Mayor E. Keathe was shocked then quickly gained control. "A useful! Hello Grace, what will be your trophy?" If you useful survived, they could choice anything they wanted, as well as mountains of other prizes. Walking to the center of the stage I shouted "My trophy will be The Life of Elody Sutcliffe!" A murmur went through the crowd. The very few times a useful volunteered, they had never asked for a life to be spared. "Very well! The challanges begin tomorrow!"
