"It's nice to meet you too," Jackson responded with a smile. He took out his laptop and pulled up google docs, a website about curses, and a website about history from long ago. The man from earlier looked around the group with a smile. "Alright, any one of you want to tell us what you're currently working on? Jackson, what about you?" Jackson looked up from his computer. "Me? Oh..sure. Just a story…about a human who was born thousands of years ago and got cursed by a witch…with immortality…and….time works differently for him. A bit unoriginal, I think.."
Evan perked up. "A typical time loop. Make sure that the villain, whether it's the outside world, another person or himself even has a certain edge that has originality. OOOH and make the main character maybe some unconventional cryptid that isn't supposed to live forever, like vampires and werewolves are. Give it some spice." Evan then sheepishly backed away as the other table mates spoke up with advice, as he zoned in on some research for his project.
(I'm so sorry! I'm not really on the weekends and I wasn't able to respond to any RP's yesterday)
Jackson smiled at Evan. "Thanks, mate. I really appreciate that." He quickly wrote the suggestions the others were giving him. He looked over at Evan. "What are you working on? You don't have to tell me anything, but maybe I can help with something?" He asked, trying to get a look at Evan's computer screen.
(sorry. lemme edit that. for some reason, I've been distracted all morning.)
(EDIT: Alright, done! Sorry about that, again.)
"Oh! It's nothing. Just a fantasy murder mystery, I'm doing okay on my own." The librarian walked over and smiled. "Evan's going to be a published writer in a week or two, he's just sent his first ever novel to an editor friend of mine, for the third time." Evan blushed sheepishly and cleared his throat as the librarian shelved some books. "Yeah. It's the first in a trilogy. Well. For now a trilogy. It may expand." He shrugged. "I mostly come here to help other young and fresh writers in our community, and I'm good friends with most of these people, despite our differences. It's the one thing we can converge on." He sighed. "Miss Brooks?" The librarian looked over. "Do you have a book on drowning and surviving disasters?" She tapped her chin. "Let me go look, I'll be right back." She walked off as Evan sighed and began to do some googling.
"Wow, that sounds super interesting." He looked as the librarian vanished into the library, in search of Evan's wanted books. "Published writer, huh? Well, well, well. Isn't that something?" He laughed a bit and started typing on his computer. "I'll make sure to buy your book when it's out. I'm sure whatever it is, it'll be a hell of a ride." He hummed softly as he switched from the website about witch curses and to his google doc. He tapped his finger on his Chromebook, wondering what to do next.
"You can check it out here as well, I'm making sure it hits the local library here first off. They get 3 copies free. It's the least I can do. I wouldn't be published if not for the nice librarians here." He shrugged. "And it isn't much, really. There's so many amazing writers out there, I'm just glad if even a handful of people even read it." He stretched a bit and jotted down something in a notepad after digging through his satchel and finding a pen and of course, the little notebook. It had a cat on the cover it and text below said 'I ♥️(heart emoji) My Shelter Cat.'
"That is true," he responded with a nod. "There are so many writers who get their books published and their works get overshadowed by the most famous ones out in the market." He paused and sighed. "I wished more people would take the risk of publishing their work." He glanced over at the notebook with the cat cover and smiled. "Nice notebook. Where did you get it?"
"Where I volunteer at,the cat shelter downtown. I have a pet cat named Mozzart, though he has so many nicknames I think he's forgotten his real name. But. That's where I got him at. I go there three times a week,so if you ever need a pet cat, I'm your guy." He winked and smiled, and continued to write his notes.
(Sorry, I haven't forgotten about this! I'm just not really on during the weekends.)
Jackson chuckled and continued typing and lacing at his notebook for the tips he had gathered. "Mozzart, that's a nice name. I've been thinking of getting another cat to keep Hunter company while I'm out," He said somewhat quietly. Libra was right. This is fun. He thought with a smile. But there is no way I'm telling her she was right.
"Well, I can always help you out. Hunter is a cute name too." He smiled, as the small pile of books is set down in front of his computer. "Here ya go Evan. Oh, and Evan is single~" The Librarian commented, winking at Jackson. This only made Evan blush as he looked away. "Mrs.Brooks, really?" "What. Your mother does the same thing, and since you see me as another mother, it's only fair I help you go to find someone." "But I don't need to find anyone. I'm okay on my own. If I wanted to find a boyfriend I would." "Oh you're just saying that because your shy Evan. Just last week you were complaining about needing a romantic lover. I'm just helping." He huffed as he walked away. "My mom used to work at this library so I'm close family friends with the older librarians here."
"Thanks. Yeah, er..my sister helped me name him." He looked as the books were set down in front of Evan. Jackson giggled at what the librarian had said and tried his best to hide his smile. "It must be nice to get embarrassed twice as normal," he said teasingly. "But seriously, I think it's cool how she's like your second mom. Not many people are as lucky as you."
"My mom's a lesbian,I already have 2 mom's. I don't need all this teasing. And you haven't met Crystal Rosethorn. She is the staple of motherhood." Evan suddenly wrote down his number and handed it too Jackson. "I think we'll be great friends and I'm awkward so ah, here."
"Teasing to the third power," Jackson said with a smile. He looked at the paper he was being handed and took it gingerly as if it was an ancient relic. He nodded as he carefully put away the paper and looked up at Evan. "You know, I think so too." His phone started vibrating and he took it out of his pocket. He looked at it and then stood up. He sighed and mumbled something. "I'll be back, I just have to take care of something…" He said, leaving the room quickly.
He watched him walk away, and looked over at his sister, giving her a 'What's happening?' look. After getting her response, whatever it was, he just shook his head and went back to writing, plugging in some earbuds and just enjoying his music silently.
He answered the call and stayed outside the room until the call was over. It had been a couple of minutes or so since he exited the room. He sighed, put away his phone, and entered the room, sitting back on the chair. Libra looked at Jackson when he returned. "Is everything alright?" She asked.
"Apparently so. It was just mum calling to check on us."
"Oh, thank goodness. I thought something was wrong," She responded with a smile. Jackson nodded and grabbed his laptop and started writing, not bothering to grab his notebook to help him out.
(and no reaction from his sister? Read whole responses please)
(his sister was never there to begin with, but i edited the post either way.)
(OOOOH I thought that his sister went with him to the writing thing okay I'm in the wrong sorry. Want me to go back and fix it or…?)
(it's okay! no, it's all fine :) )
Evan shrugged as he returned to his writing, staying quiet as he put in his earbuds and got a studious glare on his face. There was light murmurs of discussion that rippled among their peers but overall, it was quiet. A comfortable quiet. The librarian suddenly walked over with book cart, with hot cocoa and cookies on here. "Here, some treats for all of you since you're all working so hard." Evan was zoned in, typing away, and hadn't heard the librarian.
