"I have no idea. I just hope for the best." Jay replied.
"I have no idea. I just hope for the best." Jay replied.
"Do you want to go to a family?" Kale asked quietly, still walking through the trees.
"I guess. But nobody wants a blind boy." Jay replied.
"That's not true! Why would you say that?"
"I say that because it is true. And you know it."
"It's not true! There's nothing wrong with a blind boy."
"I guess… But in reality I am useless at everything."
"No you're not.. Don't say things like that…"
"you don't have to defend me from the truth…."
"I'm not, I strongly believe that you are not useless." Kale stopped at the treeline, just watching every movement in front of the orphanage. "Do you want to have them look at you?"
"it's not like I'll see their stares." Jay replied.
"They won't stare at you, you're human just like them. It's not like they've never seen a blind person before." Kale made their way over to a couple of the medics, asking one to take a look at Jay to make sure he was okay, and telling the other to get Jordan to a hospital to be treated for a gunshot wound. When Kale was questioned about the blood on their hands and clothes they shrugged it off, saying it was from carrying Jordan. The two medics rushed off to Jay and Jordan while Kale stood still, observing everything around them.
Jay felt himself being pulled away. Then sat down somewhere.
"Ok we will be doing a series of tests on you."
Jay nodded and sat there while they asked him questions, checked his heart beat, ears, blood pressure, eye dialation. Then they stopped. "Have you hit your head recently. Or are you unable to see?"
Jay just whispered his answer. "I'm blind."
They walked away after that.
Jordan had dragged his way to the orphanage. He was sitting on the ground near the back of one of the police cars
Jay sat alone near on a bench near an ambulance. He couldn't tell at all what was going on.
Kale said nothing as everything went on around them. Phone calls were made to various establishments to try and find a temporary home for all the children until they could be properly dealt with, and the houseparents were cuffed in the back of a police van. Kale noticed some of the younger children in tears, clearly confused and frightened, while some of the older ones were clearly ecstatic to finally be outside. Kale glanced at Jay, then to Jordan, and sighed quietly before heading inside the actual building and going to the room they once shared with Jay.
Jordan was being tended to right there on the weedy gravel. He had an oxygen mask hooked to him and a portable IV bag was hanging beside him. Medics where assessing his bullet wound. It was right in the back, middle of his shin. The bullet had nicked a artery and the wound spurted blood everywhere
Jay didn't know what to do at the moment. He just sat there. At one point someone came over to talk to him. They were probably a therapist or something. They just asked a few questions about the place and him then went on to see the next person.
Kale sat on their bed, gazing around the drab room. "I might miss this place.." They reached under their bed and bundled all their clean clothes and wanted belongings into the bedsheet and tied it together at the top. Then they looked over at Jay's bed. "I wonder what he wants to keep…"
Jay layed down on the bench listening to all the sounds around him. Most excitement. Others sorrow and confusion. The cops working hard to figure out what to do.
Kale dragged their belongings outside and found Jay laid on a bench. "Is there anything you want from our room?" they asked.
"no. I think I could live without that stuff." Jay replied when he heard someone talking to him. He had instantly recognized the voice. He didn't care about any of it. All he had were some clothes.
Jordan was lifted onto a stretcher and loaded into an ambulance
"So be it." Kale watched as Jordan was loaded into the back of an ambulance. "We're going to drift apart, aren't we? You, Jordan and I… We'll be sent to different places with no real way of contacting each other."
"yeah. I'll probably be sent to some other prison." Jay replied already knowing that he probably wouldn't be put into a different orphanage or anything.
