"Just that word," she chuckled. "Though I'd be lying if I said I didn't want to learn it."
They came to a crosswalk. There weren't many cars, but either way, Astra didn't look left or right. She just walked straight into the road. It was a miracle how she was still alive.
"Do you know any languages?"
Sam followed with a somewhat terrified look on his face as they walked across the street, terrified that he would be hit by a car. "Just a touch of French, though I'd like to learn Latin even though I'm terrible with learning languages."
She had an odd look in her eyes as she stared straight ahead. "It's only natural that you would struggle with learning a whole different language. But I guess that's what makes it fun."
"Yeah, I guess," He agreed, "Though I'm unusually bad with languages." With a glance back at the road, he turned to Astra, " Did we seriously just cross the road without stopping at all?"
She nodded. "Is that odd?"
Sam nodded, looking back at the street, "Yeah, really odd..do you do that on a regular basis?"
"Most of the time," she shrugged, indifferent to the situation. "If I hear nearby cars, I might stop."
"Wow.." Sam said softly, having a newfound admiration for New Yorkers and their fearlessness, "That's crazy."
"Is it?" She shrugged. Astra was a bit odd. "So, Sam. Tell me a bit about yourself."
He cleared his throat and flushed slightly, looking around, "Well, um, what do you want to know about me? I'm not that interesting." Sam mussed up his red hair and shrugged.
She tilted her head and thought about questions to ask. "Pets? Family? Friends?"
"My parents have a dog named Tommy, and my brother has a turtle, but I don't have any pets myself. Family is just my parents, my brother, and me, and my friends," He stopped and chuckled slightly, face still flushed, "They're a bunch of weirdos, most of them live in different countries, but there are a few actually up and down the east coast here."
"Oh? Are you going to visit them?"
Sam shrugged, "I don't really know, I might, if I have the time and money after staying here for a while."
"How long are you staying here?" Astra looked at him, genuinely curious. He seemed like a nice guy. "Not to be too nosy or anything-"
"A few weeks, maybe a month or two, I haven't decided yet" He glanced over at her, "And you're fine, not nosy, as long as you're not using it to stalk me or anything."
"Why would I stalk you?" She raised an eyebrow at him. "That would be a huge waste of my time."
Sam's face flushed again and he shrugged, "I dunno, I'm just paranoid and overly anxious in a city this big." He spun his umbrella in his hands and watched as the drops of rain spin off in all directions.
(I thought I replied to this?? I'm sorry)
"That makes sense, I suppose." She grinned. "So what do you like to do for fun?"
(It's ok! You're all good!)
"Um, I read a lot, work with computers, just a lot of whatever," He replied, "Working with computers is my job though, so it's not really something I do completely for fun."
She frowned. "Well, that's no way to live life." Astra looked at him up and down, then continued to smile straight ahead again. "You should come with me some day and I'll introduce you to a whole new world."
"I like working with computers, but not people who yell at me for doing my job. Especially if I help someone over the phone. Those are the worst." Sam chuckled and raised and eyebrow, her words bringing him back to when he was young, "All I can think of now is Aladin and Princess Jasmine. But I might have to take you up on that offer."
She grinned at his Aladdin reference. "Anytime you want to, just let me know."
They continued walking for a while longer. "We're almost there!" She flashed him a bright, genuine smile.
"You're magic with directions," He said with a small smile, "And I'm free almost anytime, so whenever you have the time, we can take that tour."
"Well, do you have a phone number? Some way I can contact you?"
