Sam sighed and looked again as his rain spattered map, taking shelter under an overhang from one of the restaurants while he waited for the rain to stop. He bit his lip as he tried to figure out just where in Manhattan he was, knowing he wasn’t anywhere near the hotel he was staying in. The small umbrella hanging around his wrist was slowly drip drying and it was every so often dripping onto his shoes and getting them wet.
Astra glanced at the man and noticed his map. He seems very distressed. She approached with a smile and asked, "Are you lost by any chance?"
Her talking to him startled him slightly and he looked up, noting it was a girl who honestly looked like she knew the city better than he did, “Possibly.” With just a plain gray hoodie with the name of a college on it and jeans on along with his well worn shoes, he probably looked just like any other dude, so it must have been quite obvious he was lost. Sam sighed and nodded, already picking at the edge of his map and trying not to seem awkward, “I am lost, and not from around here, so really hopelessly lost.”
She chuckled and twirled her umbrella. She looked quite adorable wearing a black oversized hoodie and leggings. "Where are you trying to go?" She glanced at his map.
"I'm trying to get to this hotel." He pointed to the corner of two streets and looked to her for help, "That's where I'm staying at." The rain showed no indication of stopping whatsoever and Sam sighed softly because of it.
"Well, that's very far away," she chuckled. "I could escort you there if you would like. It would be much easier than you having to remember all the directions."
He nodded, "I'm terrible with directions, that might be the best option. Just don't mug me or anything." Folding up his map, he stuck it in his pocket and sighed, shaking off his umbrella, "Well, lead the way and I'll tag along."
"I don't need to mug you, bud." she laughed. "C'mon, you gotta keep up" she started to walk in the opposite direction of where she was going earlier.
Sam opened his umbrella and quickly followed, walking alongside her. His eyes darted around at every passing car or occasional human, though he tried to stay as calm and confident as he could- which wasn't very of either.
"So, where are you from?" She looked over at him, slightly twirling with her umbrella
"Michigan," He said, glancing over at her, "I'm guessing you are from around this area?" There was a wrist strap on the handle of his umbrella and he kept playing with it absentmindedly.
She nodded. "Born and raised."
"What made you come here?"
"I've always wanted to travel the east coast." Sam looked up and shrugged, "Plus I needed a change of scenery, though I think I've figured out I'm not the right person for big city life."
Astra glanced at him and smiled. "Really? Why's that?"
He glanced over at her before fiddling with his umbrella strap, "There's just too many people, too much interaction, and it's too busy. I'll stick to small towns and less chance of being hit by a car."
She laughed. "I suppose that's fair."
A small smile crossed his face and he nodded, "Does it always rain this much here?"
(i dont know if this is true or not i was only there for a week)
"I suppose," she shrugged. "I usually spend most of my time inside, so I don't pay attention to the weather a whole bunch."
(It's ok, that's more time than I've spent there XD you could probably tell me that the whole place is magic and I wouldn't know wether it was true or not)
"That's what I would do, so I don't blame you." He went silent again and just looked around at the places to eat with amazing smelling food and shops selling overpriced items.
She yawned, not even bothering to look around her. Astra just stared straight ahead and wore an unusually pretty smile on her face.
Sam couldn't help but slow down and gawk at a camera in one of the shop windows before shaking his head and catching up to her, glancing over at the girl, "I don't think I ever introduced myself, I'm Sam."
"Nice to meet you, Sam," she peeked at him. "I'm Astra." She wasn't really one for handshakes, especially when they were walking. If the circumstances were different, she would have.
"Pretty name," He commented softly, cheeks flushing a tad as he looked back to where they were walking. The rain showed no sign of stopping still and he glanced up at the gray clouds covering the sky. At least it wasn't a thunder storm.
"Thank you," she gave him a sweet smile. "It means 'stars' in Latin."
He nodded, looking over to her again with a somewhat curious look, "Do you know Latin? Or just that word?"
