She huffed, then pushed his shoulder. “You can be so difficult sometimes, I swear.”
The walked down to the small little mom and pop pizza place that was a few blocks away from the school. Piper was a relatively regular customer, so when she walked in, the employees greeted her by name.
Tanner held his arm a little awkwardly but he tried not to show it. "S-So you come here a lot?"
“Mhm, even though I shouldn’t. Don’t tell our dance teacher that I come here; she’ll be angry.” She said with a mischievous smile. “But I say, as long as she doesn’t find out, who cares? When I’m hungry, I gotta eat.”
"I won't… Plus it's not that big of a deal." He stretches a little. "So what pizza do you want. I'm gonna guess bacon?" He looks at her.
She gave him a huge smile and nodded her head. “Yep, with sausage and ham and lots of cheese. What about you, what do you want?”
"Just pepperoni" He knew he wasn't going to eat much so he didn't want to waste ingredients.
Piper waved the worker over and ordered her mini pizza and drink, then she gestured to Tanner.
(Just an fyi. I won't be on much)
Tanner orders his drink and pizza a littler nervously but not as bad as usual.
“So,” Piper said as she picked up her slice of pizza and watched the cheese stretch from the plate, “What were you up to before we, ya know, ran into each other again?”
Tanner looks down. "Family issues…, "he said as his voice cracks. Normally he'd tell Piper everything.
She tapped her fingers on the sides of her cup as she contemplated what to say next. She didn’t want to sound pushy. “Oh really? Do you want to talk about it or. . .” She trailed off.
Tanner shakes his head. "Not really… It's not… Something i just tell someone…"
“Okay I guess,” she said in a smaller voice. Honestly this whole thing was a bit annoying. Why was it so hard to get things back to normal?
Tanner eats a little but not much. "…Sorry"
“No, it’s fine,” she lied. The lull in the conversation was awkward for both of them, but Piper decided to let him talk first, so they would only be talking if he wanted them to be.
"M-Maybe I'll tell you later. I just… It's been a while since we've talked…" Tanner looks at her and sighs
“Yeah, I understand, it’s okay. Take your time, really.”
She tried her best to make sure her words were more uplifting than her thoughts.
“Although, if things really are gonna be how they used to be, we’re gonna have to trust each other.”
"I know… I'm sorry." He tries to smiles and looks at the food. "But eat first"
“Alright,” she said, and took a slice of the pizza that the waiter had placed in front of her. It was still really hot, and she almost burned her mouth when she bit down. So now she was breathing like a dragon and trying not to choke.
"You ok?" He laughs quietly and smiles. "Never pay attention to things still huh?"
She glared at him through her watering eyes. After she finally got it down, she drank a bunch of water. “I didn’t know it was that hot.”
"Sorry…" Tanner put his hands up in defense. " I really am sorry."
