Macha cast her eyes downwards. “Where do we go?”
Macha cast her eyes downwards. “Where do we go?”
“Somewhere..” He sighed, turning around to see the man leaning against the alley wall, blood dripping down his face, watching them. Suddenly, three other men walked out of the alley and turned their eyes to Tyler and Macha. The man smiled coldly, and turned away, following the other men back down the alley.
Macha’s heart froze. We’ve got to go. Now. She grabbed his hand and pulled him with her as she walked faster in the opposite direction.
Tyler walked with her quickly, glancing around them nervously until they reached the house.
Once they were safely inside, Macha slammed and double-locked the door, quickly doing a round of the house to make sure all windows were locked and the curtains were pulled over them. How could this have happened?? We had just moved in… we were going to be happy… She shook the thought away, taking a moment to catch her breath.
Tyler turned and hugged Macha tightly. "It's going to be okay..you're going to be okay.."
Macha hugged him back, to tired to feel anything else but worry and regret.
"I didn't know he would have more people with him..i'm sorry."
“Not your fault. Never your fault.”
"I should have done something, stopped him, while I had the chance.."
“Tyler… don’t think like that. Not your fault.”
"I'm sorry." He said quietly, pulling her close to his chest and hugging her tight.
“Stop saying that. It wasn’t your fault.”, she insisted, nestled up against his chest. “Not your fault.”
"Whatever you say.." He murmured, wishing it was true.
"Tyler.. if this is anyone's fault, it's your dad's and that man's."
"And I killed him. Macha..i'm a murderer."
"Well, so am I." Macha pulled away just enough to look him in the eyes. "Both were accidents. Both of us felt crushing guilt afterwards. But in your case, at least one good thing came out of it. I am really sorry about your dad. That's horrible. But you need to stop blaming yourself."
Tyler looked back at her sadly. "It's just…hard..I'm sorry. All these things that have happened to us..I just don't want anything to happen to you because I don't think I could live without you.."
Macha cupped her hands gently around his cheeks. "Stop apologizing. And.. I feel the same way. I just– I need you to stop blaming yourself for what happens. You need yourself to stop. Please. It's not your fault."
"Thank you, so much. I love you so much." He smiled a little, hugging her tightly.
"I love you too.", she said earnestly, relieved that she seemed to have somewhat convinced him. "And it's you who I should be thanking."
“For what?”
“For everything.” She leaned her forehead against his chest.
“You should get some sleep while you can.” He told her, stroking her hair gently.
“Only if you do too.”
