"And that is why pixies went into hiding." Nellie tapped on the counter for another drink. "It's also why I love this place."
"And that is why pixies went into hiding." Nellie tapped on the counter for another drink. "It's also why I love this place."
"Me too. I don't have to hide here." She shrugged.
Nellie nodded and, feeling a little tipsy, asked for a glass of water.
"I should drink more." Basil sighed. "Lotta things I'd like to forget. But if I did forget them, who knows what would happen to me." She shrugged. "Gotta go through pain if you wanna live, I guess."
"I suppose so." Nellie responded thoughtfully. " I'm Nellie, by the way. " She offered her hand to Basil.
Basil shook it. "I'm Basil."
"Pleased to meet you." Nellie smiled slightly.
"You too." She nodded her head.
Nykidia sighed. "I get it. This bar really is a safe spot. No secrets, No fronts, No lies, No having to hide. I like it that way." She said looking at everyone
“Been a while since I’ve had a place like that. Where I’m from, everyone outside of my hometown looks down on my because I’m a human. It’s really weird.”
"Really?" Nellie was interested. " I've never heard of anything like that before! It's always the other way around. Where are you from? "
Basil's interest was piqued too, and she turned to Lorreth.
Calix walked over to where they all were talking and refilled a drink and gave one of them the water they asked for. He mostly stayed quiet and to himself while working unless he had to say something.
“I come from up on top of the clouds. Most creatures there are sentient animals that use magic, but humans aren’t an original species up there. We came from the ground and inhabited a place called Caldin’s Caldera.” Lorreth takes another sip of her beer, and then pulls a dagger out of a sheath on her arm. She concentrates on it for a moment, and sparks start flickering on the blade “We learned how to do magic by using the magical essence in living creatures. Problem is, humans don’t have enough magical essence to cast anything more than small spells without getting sick, or even dying if you use too much.” She puts the dagger away. “So we draw from external sources, like animals and plants.”
“I just kinda rambled a lot about magic. Anyone else want to tell about where they come from?” Lorreth looks around the room.
Calix walks away to deal with some of the other customers on the other side of the bar then washes some more used cups, not wanting to deal with a big mess of dishes.
"I lived in the same place ever since I was born." Basil leans back.
Calix listened to the group at the counter talk about life and stuff as he washed some of the cups.
"Your worlds seem cool compared to my world." Nykidia said still in the rafters.
Calix starts to put all the dishes away under the bar and walks over to the group. "Anyone want a refill?"
"Sure." Basil waved a hand and looked up at Nykidia. "Well, tell me about yours."
Calix nodded and refilled the person that said sure's cup.
"Well my world has time pockets. Places where technology can not surpass the year that time stopped. Where I live 1938 is the year we stopped." Nykidia said rolling a casino chip across her fingers.
Basil's eyes widened. "Wow."
"And that's just the tip of the iceberg." Nykidia commented.
"Tell me more." Sheput her fist on her chin.
"Well more of which part. The fact that different parts of the country is in different time pockets? Or that how that we can travel between these pockets? Or that is magic in my world?" Nykidia asked.
Basil shook her head in confusion. "What?"
"Yeeaaahh… I have a kinda weird world. But I wouldn't want to live anywhere else." Nykidia said shrugging.
Calix listened to their conversation more. To be honest that was all he did while working, listen to the travelers conversations, and stories about triumphs, recent death, local news, and all the other stuff they all seemed to know.
