Yukio raised an eyebrow, her mask moving with the gesture. "Couldn't do anything to stop it?" She asked. "Why do you think that?"
Yukio felt slightly bad about following the girl, but the girl had noticed her. Most people wouldn't have. Anyone who would have noticed her would have been extremely paranoid. And paranoia often meant something to hide.
Lyra looked sad for a moment, "Because if I've decided to burn the city, it means I've lost all I care about. And when people don't have anyone or anything to care about they'll do anything." She looked away for a moment before looking back at Yukio, "Say, why are you wearing a mask?"
Lyra thought it was weird that this person was following her and especially that she was wearing a mask.
Yukio sighed. "I'm a 'superhero'. The last one's successor. Nobody else could do it. Well, I'm sorry for bothering you. But.. even if you have lost everything, maybe don't burn the city down? Cause then I'd have to stop you, or let everyone else lose everything too. And I really don't want to fight."
The corner of Lyra's mouth turned up before she went back to her cool expression, "Well lucky for you, I'm not planning on it. So…your a superhero…what exactly can you do?" She studied Yukio.
She didn't exactly look like much. Well, at least not to Lyra. She checked her watch and sighed, "Look, I've gotta get home before they notice I'm gone. Wanna walk me back. I'm Lyra. Lyra Black."
Yukio smiled back. "I can do the opposite of what you can. Manipulate Ice. Sorry for taking up so much of your time. I can walk you back if you'd like."
Yukio remembered one more thing though. "Be more careful when taking out vendettas against racoons, there was dry grass that could have easily caught fire nearby."
Lyra genuinely laughed and it surprised her, "So you saw my little fit." She started to walk home and while doing so she thought about Yukio. She had never met anyone else with powers before. Looking at Yukio, asked, "So you have powers? Weird."
Yukio shrugged "No weirder than you having powers. And yeah. I was wondering what that raccoon did to you." She kept pace with Lyra easily
(Do we have a plot in mind or a event just so I know where to steer this?)
( some sort of conflict that causes Lyra to villain, causing Yukio to fight against her)
(Ok, I think I have an idea for that. Should they become like really close first?)
(Yeah. Make it hurts when they have to fight)
When they got closer to Lyra's house, Yukio paused. "Your parents alright with seeing a superhero outside their house? Or should I leave you here?" She asked, turning to face Lyra.
When the reached her manor, Lyra saw that the lights in the house were still on and swore, "Fuck. They probably know I snuck out." She turned to Yukio and gave a grim smile, "Well it was nice meeting you…"
"My parents would kill me if they saw a superhero outside their house." It's supposed to be a joke but it doesn't feel like one.
Yukio nodded then. "I'm sure I'll see you around… Would you like to see me around? I wouldn't blame you if you wanted nothing else to do with me, but if you'd like…" She trailed off, unsure how to finish her statement. She also felt dumb. Of course the girl wouldn't want to see her again, she followed her for blocks. Yukio was just… Relieved to have someone she could talk to about the lesser known aspects of her life. "Nevermind, I'm sure you don't. Sorry again for bothering you."
(Sorry, I was busy the last two days. Will respond once I get home)
Lyra thought about it. Other than her older brother, she didn't really have anyone else. Her other friend had moved away and other kids she didn't trust. They usually only wanted to be friends cause her family was influential.
So she nodded, "That would be nice…I have lessons tomorrow until 3 but after that I should be good…though we shouldn't meet here." Lyra didn't explain her reasoning, she just looked at Yukio with a stubborn face.
Yukio brightened, happy to have a friend. "Alright, what about near the library? Unless you had a place in mind?"
She hadn't expected Lyra to want to see her again, and was excited with the prospect of having a friend to talk to.
Lyra nodded and waved goodbye, "That sounds good. I'll see you there after 3." There was a slight hesitation before she climbed up the vines to her balcony and into her room.
The next day, Lyra couldn't get her mind off Yukio. Never before had she met someone with powers like her. Slam Lyra looked up at her mother who had slammed a book down on the table. They had been going over proper etiquette. The only reason Lyra was learning all this so late was because as the youngest of three, it wasn't expected for her to be the heiress. Her mom scowled down at her, "Pay attention. You don't want to turn up like…"
Lyra interrupted, "Mother, I swear to–" Her face stung and the inside of her mouth started bleeding. She shut up for the rest of the lesson.
Finally she went to the library, wearing a green casual dress. Even though she had covered the bruise with makeup, it was still noticable if one looked for it. She sat down at a table and waited for Yukio.
Yukio, not in her suit, as she was worried it would cause too much attention, came over and sat down. Her hood was up though, obscuring her face. Turning to Lyra, she immediately noticed the bruise as it gave off heat as it tried to heal.
"Lyra, are you alright?" She asked. Her voice was different than the previous night, as her suit had changed her voice to further hide her identity, and Yukio realized she had never given Lyra her name, or a false one. "That's a pretty nasty bruise. Wasn't there last night."
Lyra nodded, "Yeah…just walked into a wall this morning." She sat down and zoned out for a minute. She had plans to meet her brother later and lying to him was harder.
When she realized that she was just staring, she scoffed and tilted her head, "So…what exactly is the point of your powers? You know how you got them?"
"Oh, I was born with them." Yukio said, tilting her head. "Not sure why- how about you?" She asked. "How did you get your powers?"
Yukio, of course, had not noticed the makeup covering the bruise. The water in makeup was similar enough to the water in skin, she often didn't notice it unless she was actively looking.
Lyra shrugged, "Was born with them as well….something about a prophecy or something. My parents freaked and I spent 10 years of my life basically locked up. I mean….it was ok. I wasn't allowed to really leave the West Corner of the manor but my brother's came to visit me. My older brother fought with my mom everyday until she let me out. It took 10 years but…"
She narrows her eyes and sighs, "He left and then it was just me and my twin brother. It wasn't the same though."
Yukio looked up, surprised. "That sounds … Awful-"
Yukio sighed. "I'm sorry that happened to you. I'll tell you something in return, okay?"
Yukio sighed.
"My powers help me see. I'm blind, but with my powers, I can sense the moisture of things around me, giving me better sight anyway."
Lyra smiled softly and shrugged, "It's life at my house. My older brother had it worse. Then my twin……well I'm the heiress of the family now."
She listened and tilted her head as Yukio told her about their powers. Lyra hummed, "Hmm, that's weird but also very helpful. Mine is basically just fire and destruction. Haven't played around with it a lot to figure if I can do anything else. Basically I can shoot fire, control fire, and fire resistant."
Yukio nodded. "I can also control water and water temperature, sense water and water temperature, and am resistant to the cold."
Lyra nodded and tensed up when people got close. Once they left their area, she relaxed. "Interesting….hey, do you wanna go grab something to eat?"
Yukio looked up at her. "I- uh- sure!?" She responded, not expecting the question.."ah- sorry. People… Don't usually ask me if I want to do things, they just assume I do. Perks of being visibly blind- Yes, I would like to get something to eat."
Yukio was embarrassed at her awkwardness, but was pleased that Lyra had asked.
Lyra got up and smirked, "I mean you did just tell me you have better sight than me so…anyways I know a good restaurant. My brother works there."
As they walked through the town, Lyra thought about Yukio. Finally she said, "I'd appreciate it if you don't bring up my bruise if my older brother is working…"
